Understanding Disability, Society and the Law In this assignment I will be discuss the legislation relating to people who have support needs. The three acts I will discuss is the Disability Discrimination Act, Mental Health act and the Mental Capacity Act. The Disability Discrimination act (1995) was put in the place to prevent any discrimination that disabled people may be confronted with. The Act protects disabled people with rights for; employment, education, access to goods, facilities and services and buying or renting land or property. There are over 10 million disabled people in Britain, of whom 5 million are over state pension age. There are over 6.9 million disabled people of working age which represents 19% of the working population. The DDA says that disabled people must have the same chance of getting a job as somebody that has no disabilities. The employer has to make reasonable adjustments that will improve the working environments in which disabled staff work in order to overcome disadvantages arising from the way the workplace is set out. There are currently 1.3 million disabled people in the UK who are available for and want to work. It also says that public transport and services should be made more accessible to people with disabilities. They have the rights to the correct information about transport and what's available such as timetables. Certain

How Legislation aims to stop discrimination. Naima is rejected form a job within a shop which would have involved speaking t o customers. She was told that her English wasnt good enough. The act (Equality Act 2010) policy is to protect the rights

The Equality Act 2010 Following my report it seems to me that there are some things that could have be done for example there is a law called The Equality Act 2010. This law is the replace of the other acts that protected people from discrimination these acts are: The Sex Discrimination Act 1975, The Race Relation Act 1995, The Equal Pay Act and The Discrimination Act. The Equality Act 2010 protects people form lots of different discrimination that is targeted to someone. Naima is rejected form a job within a shop which would have involved speaking t o customers. She was told that her English wasn't good enough. The act (Equality Act 2010) policy is to protect the rights of individuals and there opportunities within the protected characteristics. * Disability * Gender reassignment * Marriage or civil partnership * Pregnancy and maternity * Race * Religion and Belief * Sexual Orientation * Sex (Gender) * Age This will protect Naima because her characteristic is Race and she was discriminated directly against because she has a really strong accent and is hard to understand. Also possibly because her clothes that she is wearing is different from the people working there. Another situation that occurred would be that Naima is a target of bulling and being victimised by another co-worker in the care home. The co-worker calls her "that wog". That would come under the

9/12/2007 In my year 10 coursework I was asked to accomplish a piece of coursework. To achieve my given task I produced a case study on a woman who is 42 in age and works in a discount store as a cashier. In my coursework I included the negative factors of my case study and the positive factors. The negative factors of my case study are: * She is in stress * She doesn't get enough sleep * And she doesn't have a balanced diet. The positive factors of my case study are: * She doesn't smoke * Doesn't drink * She has a supportive family As part of my unit 2 coursework in year 11 I am expected to complete another piece of coursework on the same case study making a realistic health plan, including 4 physical measurements and describe it and also describe the clients statistics and say how this is affecting their health and well being. I must also include realistic targets for the client to follow to help them improve their negative factors. Lastly I have to include feedback from the client. One of the 4 physical measures that I will do for my case study is the blood pressure. Blood Pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels. Blood pressure depends on the strength of the heart beat, thickness and the volume of the blood, the elasticity of the artery wall and the person's general health. Blood pressure is measured in two

Citizenship- Active Citizenship Coursework

In my active citizenship course, I participated in a project at Earls Hall known as 'The Gruffalo Project'. This project took place during the summer of 2008 for a period of four weeks at a primary school in the local area known as Earls Hall Primary School. Here, every alternate Friday for about two months, I would go to Earls Hall and make a story with assistance from pupils from the age of 7-8. We used videos, pictures and voices to create the story based upon the book called 'The Gruffalo'. As well as participating in this project, I also assisted the Year 4 pupils to read which benefited them greatly. There were about 15 students from Southend High School for Boys that participated in this project and we were split up into groups of three with four Year 4 pupils in each group. The objectives and aims of this project were to assist the Year 4 pupils to continue and enhance their education by using creative and enjoyable teaching methods. For this project, we needed many resources. In the planning stage we realised that we needed to make a story with videos pictures and voice so we needed a camera for this. After filming our story, we then needed to assemble all that we had done using a program called Photostory. During the planning stage we did encounter some problems; such as that inevitably, as we only had one hour at Earls Hall including the journey times, there was

Carry Out Some Research To Find Out What The Nutritional Standards Are. Do You Think That Such Standards Will Work? If So, Why? If Not, Why Not?

The School Meals Review Panel Is An Expert Advisory Group On School Meal Standards. It First Met In May 2005. It Was Set Up By The Government In Response To A Campaign By TV Chef Jamie Oliver To Improve The Quality Of School Meals. It Has Announced Detailed Nutritional Standards for School Meals. Carry Out Some Research To Find Out What The Nutritional Standards Are. Do You Think That Such Standards Will Work? If So, Why? If Not, Why Not? (P4) Jamie Oliver has, in recent years become a household name in the kitchen, in 2005 he was part of a television series called "Jamie's School Dinners". The overall purpose of the series was to change the type of being served in school canteens. It has been argued that the nutrition of children whilst at school effects the way in which they learn and concentrate. At the beginning of the series Jamie went to a school that served processed food that was high in sugar, salt and fat. By the end he had convinced most people that the healthier option is the best choice and helped to create a balanced diet for lunch on a budget. It was also made clear that if Oliver made a success of the first school he would have a better chance at coercing members of the government to change the nutritional standards for school meals. "Jamie's School Dinners" was a huge success, and since then many things about the nutritional standards have changed the
