Physical Ability (large gross motor skills):
Natalie is able to do the things an average three year old can do. She is able to kick a ball forwards, throw a ball over hand and also catch a large ball with extended arms I saw her playing with her dad in the garden and was very good at catching the ball. She is able walk and run forward with precision very easily. Natalie is very steady on her feet and when I was round there we had a hopping race, which Natalie enjoyed and won. She is also able to ride tricycle and steer it round large corners very easily. Natalie walks up the stairs like a grown-up by putting one foot on each step and usually jumps from the bottom two steps.
When Natalie sits down in her nursery she sits with her feet crossed at the ankles and with her arms crossed at her chest this is average for a three year old (Ref3.). With Natalie’s swing and slide in the garden she is able to climb and play with them very easily and carefully.
Intellectual (mental) development:
Natalie is at a stage of development where she is recognising some letters, numbers and colours she understands the primary colours and pink and purple but dose get confused with other colours. Natalie can sort out simple objects she is very good at this as she has many puzzles, which she likes to play with. Natalie now understands big and small, light and heavy. Natalie is unable to repeat a simple story but does know nursery rhymes her favourite and the one she knows the best is “ Incy wincy spider.” Natalie’s level of concentration is fairly low as she is distracted by things fairly easily. Natalie’s favourite TV programme that she will concentrate and learn from is “the tweenies” she will listen to their stories and sing a long to the songs. I think these programmes are good for her learning. Natalie is able to recognise people very easily on photos and films.
Language:
Natalie is able to talk in full sentences but she does sometimes mix up her grammar and she does talk in the past and puts ED on the end
E.G. “ He hitted me. “
Most of the time Natalie will say please and thank you but sometimes she might say, “ bring me” or “ can I have “ but Rachel and Paul usually correct her. Natalie is a quiet talker and will sometimes mumble but you can usually understand her clearly. Natalie will sometimes listen to Paul or Rachel talking and then repeat the things they have said later. She also does this with short stories.
Emotional Development:
Natalie is generally a happy child she can be very shy with strangers. She does not really cry unless she’s tiered and doesn’t get her own way, if she hurts her self badly and sees blood she will cry and will not let you see it. If she does hurt her self not to badly we tell her “that its all better” and she well forget about it. Natalie’s habit that she has is sucking her thumb and stroking labels on peaces of clothing for comfort. Natalie is very is easily board as having a short concentration span. Natalie have temper tantrums but she usually only gets them when she’s either tiered or does not get her own way. Natalie is not jealous of her baby sister she is very loving as she will kiss and cuddle her and will also help bath her with her mum.
Social development:
Natalie behaves well most of the time. She has fairly good manners by saying “please” and “thank you,” but will sometimes forget. Natalie goes to nursery, which she enjoys very much. She enjoys playing with the toys but sometimes Natalie is not always willing to share the toys. When Natalie sees her mum Rachel doing something she sometimes will copy her when Rachel has hovered Natalie will get out her toy hover out and start doing her bedroom. When Rachel and Paul are focusing on something else that is when Natalie will start attention seeking she usually starts shouting but that does not happen much. Natalie gets on well with children of all ages she really enjoys coming round my house and playing with my little sister Emily of 7 years. Rachel and Paul Usually organise her cousin josh or Emily to stay for the weekend. Josh and Natalie are the same age so there are some arguments between them. Natalie’s good behaviour is praised and they say how well she’s done and that she is a good girl. With the bad behaviour we say “no, we don’t do that” and usually ignore the bad behaviour and she will usually stop what she is doing.

Description of visit:
When I arrived Natalie came charging through from Rachel and Paul’s bedroom. Natalie grabbed my hand and said “ Helen come on the computer and with me.” She was very excited to see me. I joined her on the computer for a while; she was playing with her ‘Topsy and Tim’ game. Natalie was able to play and use the computer very easily.
It was half past seven and time for Natalie’s bath. Rachel came into the bedroom and told Natalie that it was time for a bath. Natalie came through to the bathroom and then started shouting and saying she didn’t want to go in. Rachel persuaded her to go in by saying she could go in with Katie.
Natalie undressed herself easily and quickly; she also climbed in to the bath by herself, as she doesn’t like people to help her get in to it. Natalie’s bath was filled with bubbles and toys. She enjoys playing with her toys and squirting water at people as she did me many times.
When Natalie was in the bath she brushed her teeth as she usually does when she is in the bath. Natalie then asked then if she could get out and go to the toilet, Rachel helped her get out, as Natalie knows it is wet and unsafe; Natalie gets on the toilet and hold herself on as she won’t the booster seat for the toilet Rachel then comes in and has to wipe her bottom. Natalie then gets back into the bath. She then helped Rachel hold Katie while Rachel washed Katie’s hair. Katie then got out of the bath. Natalie then wanted to get out of the bath; Rachel would not let her until she washed her hair. Natalie agreed but was not happy. Rachel managed to wash her hair and get her out of the bath; she then wrapped her up with her pink ‘ Barbie ‘ towel.
When Natalie was sat on the living room floor trying to get warm Rachel gave her cup of milk and biscuit to eat as she had not eaten much tea. When she drank out of the plastic cup she grasped it with both hands and it dribbled down her chin but I cleared it up for her. When she was eating her biscuit she used her index finger and her thumb, she also had her hand underneath the biscuit trying not to spill the crumbs. Rachel then dressed her into her pyjamas.
At 8:30pm Rachel said to Natalie “ bed time!” Natalie went into her room without a struggle. She grabbed one of her bedtime story books of desk and asked if mummy could read it to her. After 10 minutes of reading to her Natalie was dropping off to sleep so Rachel left the room. I rang Rachel the next day to see whether she got up during the night she told me that she slept all the way through until 7:30am.
Evaluation:
I expected Natalie was able to undress herself witch she done very easily. I did not think that Natalie would be such a struggle to get in the bath and that she would only go in with Katie. I expected that Natalie would be able to sit unaided in the bath. I knew that she would enjoy herself when she was in the bath playing with her toys. I thought Natalie would be able to get out of the bath buy herself, but she needed Rachel to help her, as she knew it could be dangerous. I expected Natalie would be dressed buy Rachel. The thing I was most surprised while watching Natalie was that she went straight to bed without any hesitation.

Description of visit:
When I arrived at Natalie’s house it was a Sunday, so Natalie was with her Dad in the lounge watching “ beauty and the beast.” Paul was telling me that was the only film Natalie would watch so I sat down to watch the film with her. When she realised I was there which was about 10 minutes she came and sat with me. She pointed out each character to me and told me the ones she liked; this surprised me that she could remember so many names.
When the film finished I got Natalie a glass of orange juice to wake her up, as the film was quite long. She then ran into her bedroom shouting, “Helen, Helen come here I want to show u something.” I came into see that she had a lot of new toys since the last time I visited as she had a birthday in between the last visit. Her favourite present was her “Barbie” trampoline, which she was a small pink one in the middle of her room and she bounced high with no difficulty and bounced on it when she had the chance. Natalie then started to play with her new miniature kitchen, she first started to make sandwiches for me and Rachel with her toy food she enjoys doing this as it makes her feel like she’s helping. When she was using her miniature tea set she was being very careful not to drop anything, to pick up the cups she used her index finger and thumb. Natalie soon got bored of playing with her kitchen and wanted to go outside and play on her swing.
When Natalie went outside she ran straight for her side of the swing and I had to have the broken swing. Natalie asked for a little push to get started but then she was able to swing her legs back and forward and easily swing herself. She really enjoys playing on her swing and she told me that was her favourite things she does outside. After about 15 minutes of playing on the swing Natalie stared running around the garden wanting me to chase her, I did and she really enjoys it when you catch her and give her a cuddle. She then wanted to play in her sandpit but she couldn’t because it stared raining and we had to go inside. By this time it was 6:00pm and time for Natalie’s tea and also when I had to go home
Evaluation:
When I went to visit Natalie I expected to see her change with her large gross motor skill. She has changed a lot and for the better the last time I went to visit her she was not able to push herself on the swing but now she can fairly easily. I also expected her to improve her fine manipulative skills and she has, I noticed when she was playing in the kitchen and her miniature tea set she was very careful not to drop anything as she used her index finger and thumb, I could also see the concentration in her face trying not to spill anything. I asked Natalie what her favourite toys were and she said her kitchen and trampoline but she also enjoyed the swing. So Natalie loves being indoors and outdoors playing with her toys.

When I arrived at Natalie’s house, Natalie had just come home from school. This was the first time I had seen Natalie in her school uniform she was wearing a green jumper, a little grey skirt and a pair of black shiny shoes the first words Natalie said to me was “ do you like my new shoes Helen?” I told her they were lovely and she started dancing in them to show them off. Rachel told her to take them off, she did and undone her Velcro strap using her finger tips (fine motor skills), she then placed near the front. I was surprised how Natalie cared for her shoes and she had seemed to have matured a little since I last visited Natalie as she was caring how things looked and she was doing things for herself which Rachel would do usually.
