P3 explain factors that may influence communication and interpersonal interactions in health and social care environment
Speech: The care workers are going through the same issue when it comes to service user who got difficulties to understand the English language which is a factor that influence in health and social care setting. There can be a barrier if the person doesn’t speak or understand English very well. How will the service user be able to get support from the care workers? Carolyn Aldworth (2010, 9) said that these localities and groups may be referred to as different speech communities. This is not a good solution because the individual may feel excluded or threatened by the languages in the community. It is better that the care workers avoid using formal language, such as slang and jargon which could cause a barrier for the service user from different background.
The care worker can use interpersonal skills to be able to communicate with the client or using listening skills to understand the issue that may cause for them. It is important to use these skills effectively so that the client won’t feel excluded by solving their problems; making a decision and to manage stress which are also considered as interpersonal skills. It is not only how we communicate with others, but also gives us confidence and the ability to listen and understand one another.
It is important in health care setting that the care workers are using assertiveness skill. It can happen in some situation that one of the patients is becoming emotional about something. In this case, the care workers have to use assertiveness and communication skills. That he/she has to say or show empathy towards the patient that you are there to support them, to encourage the patient that it is ok to let your emotion out of the way. If you want to be a care worker it is important to use communication, listening and assertiveness skill because in everyday basic you have to compact with this situation to be able to overcome those barriers.

To be friends with: It is important for the individual that they have someone who they can communicate with or rely on. Communication builds up relationship that the person needs to be able to listen and understand their feelings.
Translator: When it comes to service user who doesn’t understand English or it is not their first language it is always best that the translator can support the service user’s difficulties. For instance, if the service user is speaking French than a translator who speaks English and French should take into place. It will give the service user a clearer understanding because the care worker will talk to the translator in English so that the translator knows what he/she is going to say to the service user.
Speech therapist: a speech therapist delivers valuation and therapy for peoples with speech, language or other communication issues. Speech therapist may work with children or young people who are suffering from communication difficulties. A range of communication approaches and therapy will be used to improve someone’s ability to communicate.
Counsellors: This method is used in advanced communication skills to integrate the knowledge of psychological theory in order to support people with learning difficulties. The person who is doing counsellor spend time listening and find out structure to understand the person’s emotion.
