What is a pager?

What is a pager? There are 3 main types of pagers available, tone, numeric and alphanumeric - each with their own set of advantages to the user. * Tone pagers have a simple beep alert once the pager number has been called. Tone paging is ideal when the same number, such as home or the office regularly contacts you. * Numeric Pagers are capable of receiving and storing numbered messages of up to 20 digits. Numeric codes can be established to accompany the callers telephone number to appear on the pager. * Alphanumeric pagers are capable of receiving test messages up to 200 characters in length. Messages can be sent to an alphanumeric message via the message centre, a PC with the appropriate software, or through an AirPage e-mail (see the section on AirPage). Why have a pager? There are a number of reasons why you should have a pager, whether for personal use, business use, or general contactability. A few of these are summarised below: * Discrete: Paging is a great way of receiving discrete non-intrusive messages, which you can then prioritise and reply to at your convenience. * Coverage: Is a major plus for Telecom paging, New Zealand's populated areas and traffic routes offer extensive coverage. For more detail see our coverage map. * Availability: Most pagers will operate for 2-3 months on one AAA alkaline battery, meaning you never have to turn your pager

My speech is all about piracy.

Hello everybody, welcome to my speech. My speech is all about piracy. I think you all heard the word more than once. Piracy refers to illegally copying or distributing unauthorized software or music, mostly the internet is the medium for advertising, offering, acquiring, or distributing pirated software. Everyone can create a website. Besides, the explosive growth of e-commerce and mp3 sites and programs, such as mp3.com and Napster, have made it even easier for criminals to distribute software and music through the internet. This has decreased sales of legal software and audio-cd's. An estimated 2 million web pages offer, link to, or otherwise reference "warez" software - the internet code word for pirated software. A recent investigation indicates that more than 60% of software sold through internet auction sites is counterfeit and more than 90% is sold in violation of the publisher's license agreement. History of piracy Since the beginning of the personal computer there was piracy. The floppy disk was made to transfer your documents to any computer you like. This opened a bridge to piracy, everyone could copy entire programs and give or sell them to others. Nowadays you'll be looking for a needle in a haystack to find software which isn't secured for copying. That's logic, because many people have or have access to a burner. With the rise of the burner the sale

To: Managing Director From: David Healan Date: 16th October 2003 Subject: hardware and software .0 Introduction In this report I am going to discuss how hard ware and soft ware of a C.P.U (central processing unit) could help a supermarket like Tesco. 2.0 Findings 2.1 KEYBOARD Keyboards are used to input letters or numbers in to a computer. A keyboard can also be used to random tasks such as switch between programs, close program windows and to restart computers. So computers come with short cut buttons at the top of the keyboard these are active keys. There are two different types of keyboards and these are the QWERTY keyboards, which is a standard keyboard, which everyone uses, and then concept keyboard, which is used in MacDonald's, which on the keys has names of the meal you, can order. 2.2 MOUSE A mouse is used to selected programs and options in programs it is also used to highlight text in Microsoft Word and other text based programs. There are different types of mice, there is the roller ball, which has a scroll button between the two main keys, and there is the infa red mouse, which can be used from a distance with no wires connecting it. 2.3 SCANNER A scanner is used to scan images and documents onto the computer hard drive and then can be edited through certain programs and you can also email the document or images to other people you

Brake pads.

BRAKE PADS Do you hear a screeching sound like metal rubbing on metal when you hit the brakes on your car? If they do, I think its time for your brake pads to be changed. To change your car's brake pads, you must have a few pieces of equipment and recourses. There are a few pieces of equipment, which can be found just inside your car itself! The jack and the wheel wrench are located in trunk of your car under the carpet. The jack has a diamond shape too it with big twisty looking screw in the middle of it. The wheel wrench looks like a crowbar with a not bolt shape at the end of it. To get the rest of the equipment and recourses you must unfortunately buy it at an auto parts store or Wal-Mart of some kind. These pieces of equipment will consist of brake pads, ratchet set, flat screwdriver and stands. After you have gathered all the equipment and resources you should take your car and drive it to flat workable area. Make sure when you get out of the car that it is in gear and the E brake is up to ensure the car won't roll but be nice and sturdy. First step to change your brakes is to take your jack and place it under your vehicle. You must not just place the jack anywhere but under the big metal rectangular shape looking box beneath your car. Once under raise the jack by turning a small, thin, shaft on the side of the jack. As soon as the car is in the air you must put a

How ICT Has Helped People With Special Needs

Section E Essay: How ICT Has Helped People With Special Needs Introduction In this essay I will be analysing how the usage of ICT helps people with special needs. There are 3 types of special needs. What is a physical disability? The term "disability", as it is applied to humans, refers to any condition that impedes the completion of daily tasks using traditional methods. National governments and global humanitarian agencies have narrowed this definition for their own purposes, only pledging aid to those with specific disabilities of a certain severity What is a sensory disability? Is when someone is you are Deaf, visually impaired, hearing impaired or have a significant combination of hearing and sight loss. What is a learning difficulty? A disorder in basic psychological processes involved in understanding or using language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself in an imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell or use mathematical calculations. The term includes conditions such as perceptual disability, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia. Input devices Keyboard The keyboard is usually a long rectangle shaped piece of plastic with rows keys. The keyboard is used to type letters and numbers into a word processor. They are also used for gaming; some keyboards have with special gaming features. A keyboard used to be used to give commands to operate the computer before there the invention of mice. A keyboard can be connected to the computer by USB port or wirelessly. Some keyboards are designed for use by people who are visually impaired. The Waterside library has a keyboard on every computer; there are two types of keyboard in the library, the average sized plain coloured keyboards (above left) used mostly people without eyesight problems and then the larger sized keyboards (above right) for visually impaired members with a contrasting coloured keyboard. The contrasting coloured keyboard makes it easier for the visually impaired to identify buttons on the keyboard. The good thing about the larger sized keyboard is that the keys help the user to recognise when they have been pressed with a nice distinct click. The libraries facilities are available to the whole community including the visually impaired. It would be unfair for visually impaired people if they were not able to use the same facilities just because the equipment didn't suit their needs. The Library has made a big effort to make sure all sections of

Different printers.

Printers allow you to transfer images/text from your PC to paper, and can do so, using a variety of colour. In general, there are three different types of printers, two of which we are going to review. The three different types of printer are: a Dot Matrix Printer, an Ink Jet Printer, and a Laser printer. Laser Printers: The way laser printers work, is by using a print engine. This works by shining a very thin pattern of light, on to a type of metal drum. Black ink (toner), will stick to the parts of the drum that has been exposed to the light. The paper then rolls over the drum, and the image is transferred from the drum to the paper, but before the paper leaves the printer, it is heated to join the toner to the paper. Like the dot-matrix printer, the laser printer still prints using dots, however the dots are packed closely together, so they are almost impossible to distinguish. The quality of laser prints is very high, this is because the resolution of al laser printers is at least 600 dots per inch (DPI) and the prints are very fast. They can print at least 10 pages per minute (PPM), but some can print as fast as 24 PPM. The set back is, that they are expensive to buy, and very expensive to run, as toner cartridges expire after about 6000 prints. Most laser printers are used for printing text and pictures in black and white, because although the colour cartridges give

Proposed Hardware and Software For a Computer Aided Design Company

Proposed Hardware and Software for a Computer Aided Design Company There are several pieces of computer equipment a design company would need to function efficiently. Firstly they would need the correct input and output devices. To input the data a computer and mouse would be needed, these are standard input devices. The company would perhaps benefit from the use of a light pen rather than a mouse, though this would depend greatly on the software packages they would be using. Another input device that may be useful to the company would be a Graphics Tablet or Digitiser. The user can draw professional quality illustrations onto the flat rectangular surface of the digitiser, using a stylus. The computer traces the movement of the stylus and displays it on the screen. A high-resolution tablet would be needed by a CAD company. A scanner may also be of use to the company, or a digital camera, depending on what exactly the company was designing. Images of high quality can be obtained from the use of a digital camera, and there are many high-resolution scanners that would allow the company to scan in pictures that will be needed in the design of the product they are creating. Whether the company chose a scanner with OCR (optical Character Recognition) would be there choice, though it would not be necessary. The software the company would need would probably be specialist

Desktop Publishing - Skating Brochure

Desktop Publishing - Skating Brochure The Manager a new skate park in Preston Mr. Daniel's (Preston Skate Park) has asked me to produce a brochure for the new release of the park to attract as much publicity as possible to hand out around Preston this will include prices, opening hours and information about the park e.g. location. Before this idea he used to just put a few posters up displaying the information. To produce this poster the manger used to just design the posters by hand and photocopy them. This is one manual way of designing the poster the new way will look better\professional and will be a lot easier to produce. There are a number of possible methods of solving this problem. I could use page plus, Coral Draw, Paint or Microsoft Publisher these are all very good desktop publishing programs. I could use Microsoft Paint but there is no word art/ Clip art and other very useful features it is also very difficult to edit when it is there and is just not very easy to use. The only quick and simple solution would be to use a desktop publishing like Microsoft Publisher because this is the only one the school has and most of my work will be done there. The manager of Preston Skate Park wants the following to appear the brochure: * The brochure should attract more attention by have lots of different colours * Information on the opening times and costs per hour
