Hardware and Software -IT

Hardware The system requires certain pieces of hardware in order to run properly. These include the following areas of hardware: I have used Excel to create the project. For the actual system for the party planners I would specify the use of a more up-to-date PC system such as a dell vostro 1525 with an Intel core i5 processor system running Windows 7 as the quality of the output will be better and the planner may need to run several versions at the same time. A monitor is required for the system as an output device to display images. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors are big but have strong screens with glass screens that don't get damaged easily. However, they make quite a lot of heat and noise. They also take up a lot of space due to their size. The more common monitors are the thin TFT (Thin Film Transistors) monitors that take up less space as they are smaller than CRT monitors. They also make less heat and noise than them, but these monitors are more sensitive and a sharp object can permanently damage the screen. Even the colour and contrast isn't as good, which has dull pictures. For JJ party Planners, the best monitor would be a TFT because it takes up less space and makes less noise. The sales assistants won't damage the screens or need high quality pictures so a TFT monitor would be fine as it doesn't cost too much now. The system is more than fast enough,

"VHS is dead, long live DVD".

"VHS is dead, long live DVD" This statement can be looked at in two ways, either true or false. People that would say that this statement is false would mostly be for nostalgic reasons. I myself feel that this is true because technology is evolving minute by minute, and the future is key to technology. Although I think that it's good to have new technology, it also means that more and more people will be taken advantage of. This will not just be the consumer, as prices are very high, but the poor exploited Asian communities that will be paid less than a dollar a day. Apart from this I do think that the digital versatile disc is the way forward for our viewing needs. The acronym DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc. Each word is key in showing how "VHS is dead" and that the DVD is the future. The 'Disk' is the future because unlike a video, it is not at all bulky and is only 120mm wide, where as a video is 187.5mm. This obviously means that the way we view films, music etc is getting smaller and also means that it will continue to decrease in size. Even though a video is larger than a disc it does not mean that it holds more memory, in fact a disc holds seven times more memory than a video, which is the main reason the DVD has taken on. The word 'Digital' has great benefit over the VHS because videos are predominantly analogue and all DVDs are digital. This is a great

As an IT Manager I can help John's parents to choose the right computer and what is needed to support his courses and hobbies. In order to help John's parents to buy a suitable computer for John he needs a dell computer which is a computer with good quality. The positive thing about having a computer is that it makes it easier to finish off his work or carry on with it. He should change his computer to the German language which makes it easier for him to do his a-levels in German. The internet could also help him to research any doubts he has or help, which is needed for his course. If he wants to, he could buy the computer in English and change it into German but the software for that will be needed or he can buy a German computer at any special ICT shops who also sell German computers. He also needs to have Microsoft publisher- or word 2007 to produce his leaflets for the local conservative party. The computer is useful for his ICT skills as he can learn many new things which are important for his ICT course. He should use all the

Comparison of two computers

Comparison of two computers The two computers I will be comparing are the Solo 1000 and the ProSentia 3000. The ProSentia is slightly more expensive than the solo at £899 than the solo at £589. The first computer, the solo, has an AMD Athlon 1000MHz processor but the ProSentia has a Pentium 4 processor 1.4 GHz that is faster than the solo. The processor is the brains of the computer and carries out the tasks, so a faster computer would suite policies 'R' us because all tasks can be carried out quicker. The solo has a 40Gb hard drive compared to the ProSentia, which has a 20Gb hard drive, the size of the hard drive is important because this stores all of the programs and work files. The solo would have more space on it than the ProSentia, this also has a 128 Mb RDRAM which is the same as the solo, the memory isn't as important because it is only used to run the programs, But Policies 'R' us will not need the memory to be to big because there programs wont be to complicated. The ProSentia comes complete with software including Microsoft Office that contains Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Publisher. This would save the company buying it separately. It also comes with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, an anti-virus program and other software tools. Where as the Solo comes complete with Windows Millennium Edition and Cyber link DVD playback CD creation

Advantages of using Simulators

Introduction: Simulations are almost as good as the real thing. It is a program designed to copy a real-life situation. Simulators: Using a simulator has some advantages, they are as follows; . It is much safer, as people are not injured. 2. It is a cheap option as expensive models or full size mock ups don't need to be built. 3. No equipment is damaged. 4. Modifications can be made easily and re-tested quickly. Some disadvantages of a simulator are as follows: . A poor model will give unreliable results. 2. Simulations cannot completely re-create the pressures that a person might be under in a real-life situation. 3. Producing an effective model might be time consuming. 4. Running the simulation might require expensive hardware or software, like with Virtual Reality (VR). A simulation is carried out using a model. A model is an artificial re-creation of an object or trend and should behave in the same way as the real thing. A simulation is when a model is used to carry out an activity that copies real-life occurrences. For example, when a bridge designer uses a model to simulate what will happen when the bridge is actually used. A computer model is created using programmed instructions and equations. An example would be a computer model of the way an aircraft behaves when it is in flight. There are different types of Computer Model, they are as follows; .

An Introduction To Modern Storage Devices

An Introduction To Modern Storage Devices There are many ways of storing information and data for use with modern computer systems and new developments are constantly being made. Many changes have occurred since the first personal computers were developed, allowing a lot more information to be stored, and on storage devices which are generally a lot smaller and easier to handle than methods of storage previously used. In the past two or three years, there has been a massive change in the emphasis that has been placed on certain storage devices. Whereas 3.5" floppy discs were practically the only commercially available storage medium available to the public there are now many more on offer. The biggest change has perhaps been that writeable and rewriteable CD's are now widely available to the public. For many people, CD-R's have now replaced the use of floppy discs, as they offer an inexpensive way of storing large amounts of data. A typical floppy disc stores 1.44 Mb's of data, whereas a CD-R stores 650 Mb and both offer a similarly priced product. Some examples of modern storage mediums are: * Mini Disc * Tape Drive * MP3 Card * Hard Disk Drives * CD ROM * Zip Disk * DVD The major advances in the ability to store larger amounts of data is not only desireable, but essential as computers become more complex each day. As computing technology develops, much more

All of this technology means that a blind or partially sighted person is able to do everything

How ICT Effects A Person With Special Needs In this piece of coursework I will be examining how ICT has helped a person with special needs. The person I will be looking at is Paddy McGinty, who suffers from Juvenile Macular Degeneration. This causes the light sensing cells in the back of the central region of the retina to malfunction and will eventually die, which leads to gradual loss of central vision. This basically means that Paddy can no longer see something in full if he looks at it directly, and only if he looks at it from the side. He is also colour blind when looking directly at something, but can see it in colour if he looks at it from the side. This means that he has to be very organised when dealing with clothes so not to put on the wrong colour item. Paddy found out he was colour-blind at 16, when he took an eye test when applying for a job as an electrician. They found out that he couldn't distinguish between colours and he failed the test and couldn't become an electrician and so he became an engineer. Although colour blind, he got his driving licence when he was 22. In 1988 he was registered as Partially Sighted and 2 years later he was registered blind. Being blind, in government terms, means that he is 80% disabled, so this means that he couldn't do many things that he did before, such as drive and do the work that he did before. He became less able to do
