The person who owns the company is a man called George Mulalay. He works at the station making sure everything is satisfactory. The manager is known to me as he is an old school friend of my fathers. The Company is a radio station. They play music and every hour they will report the news. They also hold competitions and advertise companies. This is how we make most of our money. The company I work for has existed for three years next month on the 1st of November. The company is not a huge company; it's just not very small either. The rent we pay for our studio, where Capital FM is run, proves to be a huge financial demand. The address is "2 Clifford gardens, Hayes, Middlesex, UB3 1NX. The company at present has seven employees, include the presenters and the cleaners. The company has a reasonable listening audience although more finances would help us to expand this clientele. The company is successful; it brings in enough money to pay off all the employees and allows the manager to make a profit. It is just not as extensive as the manager has hoped yet. I have been called into help advertise the company and help fix some of their ICT solutions. In order to do this, I

Verification, validation and input masks

Verification, validation and input masks Verification is when a human, through proofreading, checks data. You can do this in several ways: · Proof read the work on the monitor or on a print out · Check work on a monitor/print out with a manual copy · Get somebody else to check the work for you. · Two people typing in the same data, and if the data is the same it is accepted for processing. The only drawback to this is the unlikely event that the two people actually make the same mistake, and the wrong data is inputted. The advantages of verification are that data is less likely to be inaccurate. For many companies such as banks, data being accurate is crucial. However, it does take time to check all the data, and in cases such as having two people entering the data, this is using another person that could be doing other more important work, and two wages need to be paid which would lose money. Validation can be used in a database, where you set up the fields in a database so that only certain information can be entered. It's a check by the actual computer program and makes sure that the data is allowable. There are many different checks that can be performed: · Character type check - This check will make sure that the correct characters are entered into the computer. · Length check - Where the length of the word that has been entered is checked, and if this

3D - The impact of ICT on the local community Introduction I live in the borough of Waltham Forest. Waltham Forest is quite an advanced community in terms of technology. Technology is used for various things, whether to make them more efficient or to provide a better service. Walthamstow is a small town located within Waltham Forest, which also harbours Leyton and Leytonstone. It is located to the North East of London and bordered to the north by Chingford, to the south by Leyton and Leytonstone, to the east by Epping Forest, to the west by Tottenham and the River Lea valley. Walthamstow is identified by the London plan as one of the 35 major centres in Greater London. Walthamstow's market is one of the longest daily outdoor markets in Europe and dominates the High Street. There are various shops lined along the high street with some high-end chain brands to several individually opened stalls that specialise in food, fabrics, household goods and other such stuff. The Mall in Selborne Walk is the largest place in the area to find lots of different brand shops selling high-end goods manufactured and produced to the mass public via corporations instead of individual businesses. The individual businesses tend to be all located outside on the high street. The central library has also recently been refurbished and modernised. It was expanded from 2006-2007 to hold a wider range

The Use of ICT in the Wider World.

AO4 The Use of ICT in the Wider World ICT (Information Computer Technology) is used throughout the world in many different and interesting ways. In fact without ICT the world would not be as it is now. I am going to research the many ways that ICT is used throughout the world. Computers in Shops Not all shops use ICT but the ones that do find every day things such as stock control very quick and easy. * Bar codes are the patterns of thin black lines you find on most products. These bar codes are then scanned by a computer to which will then give the price of the product and this can also be used for stock control. The computer then reduces the recorded stock of the product. And when the stocks fall below a pre-set amount called the 're-order level'. An order for more stock is automatically sent to the shops warehouse or supplier. This type of system will be mainly used in supermarkets. But smaller shops might have a smaller simplified version of this. * Debit payment is where you pay for the items that you have purchased with a debit of credit card instead of cash. The customer will hand over their credit or debit card, it is then swiped, the bank will be contacted, the customer has to sign a receipt to verify that it is their card and the money will be deducted from their bank account. Or in the case of a credit card it will be added to their account ready for them to

The graph to the left shows UK internet retail sales, as you can see between April 2000 and December 2002 the online retail market value has seen a sharp increase. There are many reasons for this, firstly that internet shopping is a lot safer then it was ten years ago, sites such as PayPal make online shoppers feel safer as you only give out your card details to one company and they act as a 'middle man' between you and the seller. The rest of the information and links are spread across the rest of the page but everything is set out in as table to keep things even and neat. The main logo is situated in the top left corner with a link to the homepage as nearly all websites do. A search box is also present which gives you more freedom in your searches and / or if you don't know where to look for the item you are after. Any awards that they have received are positioned out of the way at the bottom of the page along with official company owner and also cards for payment accepted by the company. Colour Curry's have a specific colour theme in which contains red and white. This is used on all items related to the business, for example the website, the leaflets and the carrier bags. They use red and white because they are contrasting colours and stand out when used together. It gives a more professional feel to the website. And rather than using red on white for text they use white on red. Using these colours in the way they do it makes the logo very easy to remember and notice. Evaluation of my ICT Database, Spreadsheet and Newsletter

Josh MckeithFinal Evaluation 05/01/2012 Health and Safety I followed the school rules, and didn’t bring any food/drink into any computer rooms that could be damaging the electrical appliances if any beverages split on it. I didn’t bring my bag or coat into the classroom to reduce chance of someone tripping over, and I made sure that all wires were safely under my desk so that no-one could trip over them. When it was sunny and I was sat facing a computer I made sure that the blinds were closed so that I didn’t get a headache. When I had a double lesson we had a 5minute break between the 2 periods. This was to reduce chances of getting a headache, poor circulation or even backache. I adjusted my chair’s height so that my eyes were at the same level as the screen to reduce eye strain. I watched out for any trailing cables from the mouse or headphones and I used wrist rests to prevent RSI. Security I made sure that I never told anyone my password, or that I didn’t write it down so that no one could alter my work in any way, or delete it. I had no internet access so no viruses could be downloaded. I saved my work regularly just in case of a power cut, or if I knocked the wires, or if some other thing happened. My work was regularly backed up, every night, and saved on an external hard-drive. I followed safe, healthy and secure working times at all times. I can

Designing a database for Type a Flight Travel Agent.

Introduction I have been given a task to make things easier for a travel agent called Type a Flight. Type a Flight is a travel agent which is situated in Warrington and it was established in 1995, it's been 16 years now and it also has about 500 customers and 10 employees. The company does all its work manually. They keep their documents in filing cabinets. So when customers call in to book flights then they have to look in the cabinets for a document. This is very time consuming and due to this problem they could lose a fantastic amount of customers because they could get tired on the phone. Filing cabinets also take up a lot of space. This is getting very difficult and time consuming as the number of customers is rising on a daily basis. One of the problems is that it takes time writing letters by hand .For this problem I have come to the conclusion to make their things easier by making a database for them so it will be effortless for them to sort things out and make bookings, rather than wasting time searching through filling cabinets, plus if they had a database they will have more satisfied customers due to the fact that they will be able to work more quicker using a database. Another advantage of having a database is that they can serve more customers at the same time. One of the problems is that it is time consuming to keep on writing new letters by hand so I have
