In order to view my website, you would equally need all of the above.
Accessing the Site
A keyboard is needed to access the site through typing in the URL. A modem and a phone line is also needed to access the Internet
Getting Around the Site
A mouse is needed to access all the areas in the site though clicking on the hyperlinks, as well as scrolling down the pages.
Downloading
A mouse is also needed here to click on the downloading hyperlinks.
A keyboard is needed again to type in the destination of the file. Speakers and a monitor are needed to see and hear the movie clip.
Using Software
The software that I have chosen to use to create my website is Microsoft FrontPage. I chose to use this because it was designed especially to produce websites, and use the following features:
- Themes,
- Marquees
- Frames
- Various other technical features which will make my website more aesthetically pleasing.
Other advantages of using FrontPage over other website developers is:
The wizard that it contains helps you if you get stuck
- Very user friendly
However the disadvantages are that the user friendliness of the package compromises the intricacy of the detail of its features.
Other software I used was Paint Shop pro 5 (for altering images), Animation shop (text animations), and Internet explorer (for official film review links). The drawback of using animation shop is that it only creates very basic animations, however it is very user-friendly.
There are other software packages that could be used for designing WebPages. Examples being: Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher.
Advantages to using a word processor is that lots of the operations when creating a website are the same as when typing a document. (Text boxes, the information can be printer directly without being transferred to another document.
The disadvantage is that its primary function is not to develop web sites; therefore the functions that are on FrontPage will not be there (marquees, frames and themes).
Also ISP requires FrontPage extensions to allow facilities to work. I found this problematic. The theme I used for a background would not upload to the Internet.
Displaying Website
When the website is displayed it will be presented in either Microsoft FrontPage or Internet explorer.
Extras
Outlook express is also used to send an email when the user clicks on the email us hyperlink on the contact us link.
Inputting data
The devices that I used to get information and data into a computer correctly and efficiently were a keyboard, a mouse and a scanner.
Other devices that were available for me to use that did the same functions were, a digital camera rather than a scanner and a touch screen monitor rather than a mouse. The reason that I used the devices I did was that it is faster to use a mouse than a touch screen; I already had the image that needed scanning so I didn’t see the need for using a digital camera.
Selecting Data
I could have got the data I needed from the cinema and checked that the times and films showing were correct as were the address and contact details.
Other data that would need checking includes prices, special discount rates, and opening times.
Entering Data
The text that I typed on my website is proof that I used a keyboard, the James Bond banner taken from a magazine in the screenings section is proof that I used a scanner
Effects of inaccurate data:
If data is not entered correctly then the users of the website will be given the wrong information. This would make the number of users of the website less. Also people will be turning up to the cinema to see a film given on the website at the wrong time.
To check if data is entered correctly then people could be allocated to test the site. Checks could also be made whereby the data on the website matches that in the cinema.
System Output
System outputs are a printer, speakers and monitors.
The printer is used to print information displayed on the monitor Different types of printers are colour, black and white, inkjet and laser. Colour inkjets are used when presentation is necessary and colour adds to the appearance. A laser is a quick printer that prints in black and white. This printer would be used when it is the information that is desired rather than the colour.
The speakers are used to play sound or music. Different types of speakers are headphones and pc speakers. . The headphones will be used in a more mobile environment, e.g. when using a CD player, pc speakers will be used in a stationary environment, e.g. at home.
The monitor will be used to display the website, most users will access the website through this output device. Different types of monitors are an LCD display or laptop screens and visual display units. The advantage of using a laptop screen is that they are portable. The advantage of a Visual Display Unit is that normally you can get a better specification or higher resolution screen for the same price as a laptop screen.

Analysis
Most of the information I needed to insert into my website was in the booklet, however I still needed to gather information through the web. This information consisted of
- Film Reviews
- Map of where the cinema was located
To make sure that these were entered correctly I have checked that the showings are listed and that the input data matches exactly to that mentioned in the booklet
All of this data will need to be stored on the computer and written over when new details are available so that the data is always up to date.
The output, which the system will generate, is a visual display, with times and prices tabulated. And the rest laid out in paragraphs. Other outputs are the hyperlinks and images.
I presented the data in a clear and coherent manner, which allows users to access information quickly.
Another solution to the problem is a poster produced using DTP. However my system is more appropriate as you only need one person uploading the information on a regular basis. If posters were the main source of advertising this would not be cost effective. I feel this because you would have to keep putting new posters up every time a change in time was made or a new film came out (every Friday)
Design, Implement and Test
When designing my website I decided to use a variety of functions to display the information. These were mainly components, however tables were used, as well as themes and backdrops. The components that I used were marquees and hover buttons. The tables were used in the staff lists as well as the screen times. Themes were used on all pages and backgrounds were used only on the screen times' table. These would need to be inserted in the implementation stage. Other sections that needed to be done were the decision of fonts, the shape and position of the text.
The input processes were
- Create the homepage with marquee,
- Enter text which includes welcome information
- Hyperlinks to page with cinema times
- Enter cinema times into relevant page
The processing of the system consisted of
- Checking hyperlinks go to the right pages this can be seen in the Test plan below
The outputs were
- Displaying hyperlinks, images etc.
Test Plan for hyperlinks
Evaluation, Applications and Effects
It is better to use a website here rather than an alternative source of distribution as it can easily be updated with almost no extra cost. If posters were used instead then new posters would have to be put up every time a new film came out or the times changed. Other methods will also generally take more time to produce a similar piece of work with the same accuracy.
However not everyone knows how to use the Internet even if they own a computer. Therefore users might need to be trained on how to access the Internet or an alternative method may be needed as well (newspaper).
Documentation
To log onto the system the user will have to type in the URL (in this case www.noneed2q.com/bigm.htm). (Capitals don’t matter.) To get around the website the user would need to click on the hover buttons displayed on the left side of the screen.
To create the logo I used animation shop and text animations.
My documents were saved into “my web” and to print of information on my website the user would need to highlight the wanted text using the cursor then go to file on the menu and print.
To add the logo I used insert picture on the toolbar, I then selected the image inserted it.
To add the information pages I typed in the information using a keyboard and mouse. To update the information I would need to renter the data then upload it again.
I gave the user documentation to my sister to use she found it helpful in telling her how to get around the site although she said some of the words that I had used were too complex (e.g. URL) so either I used another word instead or I gave the meaning afterwards in brackets.
AO3
My website has met almost all of my aims making it aesthetically pleasing, it displays the information needed in an orderly clear fashion Data and it is tabulated for ease of use. The following necessary information is all included in the website Contact info, cinema times, what’s playing, reviews, prices and new releases.
Another advantage is that none of the files are too large therefore the loading time will be quicker than if it had some large files.
The advantage is that lots of people today own a computer or have easy access to one so a cinema website is a cheaper way to advertise a cinema than adverts in the paper. However not every one has a computer so an alternative method of distributing information is necessary, possibly posters or a newspaper advert.
I could have improved my website by using more pictures to demonstrate the inside of the cinema and possibly more detailed backgrounds could have been used rather than a plain clear-sky theme. Video clips could also be used in the future, possibly showing the trailer of a film. However I would not use too many of these as it would slow the loading time.
AO4
This website would only be used locally as it only has one branch. However if it was to be used in a wider field then more branches would need to be opened. If new cinemas were opened in other countries then a translator may be needed if the population did not speak English.
In the wider world if this was to be used then a password may be needed to access certain parts of the site. I.e. only workers at the cinemas can access the staff lists. For this would respect the workers rites.
By opening an email link you enable anyone to know your email address, thereby hackers may be able to read your emails.
Being able to sell items over the Internet can be dangerous, for it enables the owner of the site to know all of your credit card details, thereby buying other items over the Internet with your credit card. To stop this I would need to finance a web security package enabling encryption of credit card details, etc. Also I would need to upload a device that enabled a secure run through the system, called a safe-door.
Over all I feel that the development of ICT is a good thing despite the possible lack of privacy and availability of others to use your details.
