How useful are Databases for Businesses to day? I am going to plan an investigation into how useful databases are for a company in the 21st century. Firstly I am going to explain what a database is. A database is a collection of data that can be used as information. It is understandable as information because of the headings and structure used in the database file. -A FILE is the information given in a subject e.g. Patients records. -A RECORD is a set of information about one given thing e.g. one patients record would contain just information about that person. -A FILE is one piece of information in a record; it also gives meaning to a list of, otherwise meaningless, information e.g. the field heading 'First name' gives meaning to a list of words such as 'Emma', 'Joe', 'Frank' and 'Tom'. -A QUERY is a search of the database for a certain piece of information that could be useful to you, e.g. if you want to sell a platinum credit card then you could do a search for people living in a certain area and then send the information to those people using a mail merge. Alternatively, if you worked in a doctors surgery you could do a search of people who needed a booster jab. -A MAIL MERGE is a letter containing the results of the query sent to certain people who would possibly be interested in that certain information. Report: Creating My Website Choice of Topic I chose to create a website for Apple because I am familiar with their products. I got most of my information from background knowledge of the company. I also believe that they are widely known so the audience would recognize the subject. Choice of Software Application I used Dreamweaver MX to create my website. This application is recognised as a good package for website design and is widely available for home and commercial use. It is easy to use for both home consumers and business users, and it enables the user to include advanced features such as navigation flash buttons, rollover images and form text which are all essential for website production. I have at least one of all of these on my website for presentational purposes. Methods Used to Create Each Slide First of all I set up a new folder in my user area and created 6 new .htm files. All of the websites are in the standard format, .htm. The title for the home page is Apple and for sub-pages I have used appropriate titles for each website, instead of page1and page2. I also created a folder where I could save all the images to be used on my site, so they could easily be navigated to and kept. You can choose how many characters can go in that field under field size, You can choose whether a field is required to have data in it, under Required. Proposal on making a website [Unit 2]

My website is intended for a large audience; those who do not have the recycling bins/boxes and would like to order them, those who already have them but would like to learn how to use them and what to put into them; school/parents who would like to educate their children about the importance of the environment and thus recycling (the main theme). Others, also, may visit the website just out of interest or to increase their prior general knowledge further. My website will contain content in reference with the scenario. Each different bin/box will have its own page with its picture, how it can be used (may even do this in animation form), what materials to/NOT put inside each different box. The homepage will give a brief-detailed introduction of Recycle GB's aims and will progressively link the user to the next page (black bins), using the navigation system, in terms of the component's importance in terms of everyday recycling. Each page will contain graphical 'faces' corresponding to how useful the user has found that particular page and, when clicked on, will link them to the final page where (a requirement in the scenario) they will be able to submit written feedback on how they felt. Evaluation of Software I thought it was relatively easy to use Microsoft Access. The report was an effective way to present my data, as it was shown in a printed format. I had control over the appearance of everything on the report and so I could display the information in a way which I wanted everyone to see. I thought that Microsoft Access was the ideal software for creating reports as it was rather easy to use, once you knew what to do. To create a report using wizard I clicked on reports then create report using wizard. Then I selected the fields which I wanted to view on my form and clicked NEXT. I chose the layout and style. I then gave my report a name and then finally clicked finish. If then I chose to change the design of my report I simply clicked on the design button. I thought it was again an effective way to present my data and a very good idea to create a form using the wizard. This is because, as I am not an advanced user, the wizard gave me some guidance. To create my form using a wizard I clicked on the 'forms' button then I double-clicked on create form using wizard. I then selected the fields I wanted on my form. I clicked NEXT then I chose my layout and style. I clicked NEXT and then gave my form a name. I finally opened the form and entered the information I wished to display and clicked FINISH. The public key is used to encrypt the message or data and the private key is used to decode it. What is its use? Encryption does not stop a hacker getting into a system it stops the hacker from understanding the data, one type of encryption is to jumble letters in the wrong order or to change letters to numbers.
