DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A COMPTERISED AND MANUAL SYSTEM:- * Computers take up less space, filing cabinets are not needed. * Searching for records is quicker on the computer. * More than one person can access data at the same time from the network pc. * The data stays within comp memory won't get misfiled or lost. * Fewer staff are needed to look after the computer system * Reports can be generated very quickly- by an automated processing routine rather than manually. * Cabinets take up lot of space. * Searching for records takes long time. * Setting up a computer system is very expensive. Big systems in large organisation cost millions. * Computers need people to maintain and use them. * Training costs are high and money is wasted if a person leaves. * Computers are not perfect, if there is a system failure or power cut then important data could get corrupted or lost. * It can be easy to copy files and so remove confidential information of the system. The system has to be kept secure from unauthorised user's and hackers. * Need to employ clerical staff to look after filing system. * Reports can be written only, they have to transfer information by hand. * It is time-consuming and there are chances of human error. * Only one person can access the data at the same time. * Computer's are faster and manual work is very time-consuming. * It is neater and

I want to design a database that will allow faster and easier sales of cars, it will also help organise them too.

Contents page Section Page > > > > > > > > Car Database project I want to design a database that will allow faster and easier sales of cars, it will also help organise them too. Before I design a database I need to find out what information I will need to include in my database, to this I will produce a questionnaire, which will be sent out to several garages in my local area. When I get the questionnaire results I will then design my database around the wants and needs of other garages I am going to produce a database that will allow salespersons to use a PC to speed up the search process for the customer. If the customer is searching for a particular type of car, i.e. make, model, mileage, year of manufacture. The database, which I have created, will allow the sales person to search for a car meet the customer's requirements. I am doing this because it will be much easier for the salesperson to find a car, which will meet the customer's requirements. Implementation You must use the software to process and store data entered from the questionnaire for required output. You need to produce a report, which describes in simple steps how you created the database using the selected software. This will match your design. Printouts and screen shots are required and the data has to match the data collected from the data capture sheets (one from each

Implantation task 2 In this task I would use Microsoft Office Excel as it would help Hickley Travel to work out the number of passenger and the cost of passenger. I need to set up a system that would count the number to add up the number of adults and children separately and give the total number of passenger separately. I would do so as the company could charge the price of adults full and the price of children half of it. ) First I need to open topics folder Then I need to go in the ict folder Then I need to on in 2011 assessment folder Then I need to open 2011 data files Then I need open the excel file of passenger for Cotswold and scorpion theme park This excel file would appear but now I need to save in my folder I needed to go on file sae as then put I the desired file and I also changed the type from CVS file to Microsoft excel 97-Excel 2003 &5.0/95 workbook (*.xls) Now I need to crate a new heading in Q1 which would be total Now I have added a heading, now I need to insert in a formula so I need to go in insert the go on function This screen would appear I need to choose sum Then another screen would appear so I need to select B2 P2 So I need to click the button so this type screen would appear The I need to click and drag from B2 to P2 so that I could get the total Then I need to press enter the press ok The total appear which is 32 I

ICT project - record system.

GCSE ICT PROJECT MICROSOFT ACCESS STUDENT MARK RECORED SYSTEM WRITTEN BY SUBHAN ALI IDENTIFY Identify the User There is a geography teacher known as Mrs Knight and she works at Kingswood Primary School. Since she has been there, Mrs Knight has kept a record of all her pupils' marks in a register starting from years 7 up to 11. But the problem is that she cannot gain enough information about them, however, accurate and organised the records are. E.g. if a student receives a mark for his exam in a percentage it would also be helpful if the mark they actually received, was visible on the records, this would allow Mrs Knight to observe if a student is progressing or actually getting on with his/her work. Also she would like to see a particular students grades individually without other students marks being visible e.g. on a parents evening she would like to show the students mark but without having to see any other students marks in the record book. Manual Solution Considered One solution Mrs Knight could use is by manually adding a few more columns to her record book, and work out the pupils average by hand and note them down, she would then be able to make a list of the average grades and keep an individuals grades private from being visible to other students. Two Alternative Software Solutions Considered The first alternative solution Mrs Knight could use would

Documentation of video shop database.

Documentation of video shop database User guide For the video shop project I created a database on Microsoft access. To get to the database you have to do the following . Turn computer on and log onto the computer. 2. Then once the computer has loaded up double click on the icon which looks like this: 3. Once the programme has loaded up a window will appear and to carry on to access the video database click on OK. 4. Then this window appears and to access the video shop databases double click on OTHER folder. 5. Then another window appears and shows you what the other folder contains. It shows that the video database is in this folder. To access it just double click on it using the right mouse button. 6. Then another window will appear and you have now accessed the video databases. This window appears and shows all the things available on my data base. The table: The table is the main design point for the database. You decide what field names and what special checks should be done into the database to reduce the amount of mistakes. To view the table form of the database you click on which table you want to view (video table, video taken out table or the member table click on the label that says TABLES and then double click on what table you want to see. (Diagram on the next page) Then a table appears showing all the records in that file. Below is the table for

A Program for a Cinema Manager

The cinema manager doesn't know how much to charge for each ticket so he can break even. So he is not sure how much to charge for each ticket. I will have to find out how much he makes and spends each year to help calculate the suitable price to sell tickets for to break even, anything he adds on is profit. The program I will be using is Microsoft Excel, a very useful spreadsheet program which is designed to display and process numbers. If this was done by hand, even with a calculator, it is very tedious and the manager wants an easy and most important of all quick. The program contains mathematical, statistical and financial calculations that can be applied to numbers, and it can even display values in the form of graphs and pie charts. The reason I want to use this program is because it is a very powerful, if the manager wants to see what would happen if he raised or lowered a price he could see exactly what happens to the rest of his calculations, if he changes an employee's wages, everything is automatically updated. Once the employer knows how to use the program, it is very useful. I know it is the most appropriate program for the given task because it does everything needed for the task and more, e.g., if I used Microsoft word, I could record data but will not be able to use formulae, so every time some is changed, everything will have to be manually updated.

A02 Implementation Commentary

A02 - Implementation Commentary I split the design problem into a number of different sections, which are explained: Analysis of Problem The Analysis of Problem is when the problem is recognised. Design of Solution The Design of Solution is when everything from the Analysis is taken into account, and an appropriate solution is drawn up. Implementation The Implementation is when the Design is transferred into a real thing e.g. the touch screen presentation. Testing This is where the solution is examined to find any faults or spelling/grammar errors. At this stage, any changes are made to the system. Evaluation This is where the final system is evaluated, and any things hat would be done differently next time are mentioned but not carried out. There are various different inputs, processes and outputs which I had to control to make my presentation. These are very important to be able to make the foundations to the main presentation: Inputs All the data that was input was: * The NHS logo which I copied from a website. * The map which I copied from MultiMap, which is on the final slide. * The names and positions of all the staff who work there * All the information about the health centre i.e. the policies Processing * I had to paste the NHS logo into PhotoFiltre and then crop it, and then re-paste it into the presentation. * Similar to the NHS logo, I had

Database - The Problem, the sloution

Database write up The Problem: A video shop has recorded all of their customers on card and they find that the card can be easily damaged and hard to continuously organise. The old system is slow and tiring for the workers and can take large amounts of time and the customers have to wait long amounts of time. The current service is not satisfactory and customers have been going to competitors. The Solution: To convert the system to a sufficient standard being quick and affective. This would avoid all the problems of damaged cards and all the other problems involved. When using a database you can access other information quicker than off cards and as long as the software is being looked after the database will never get damaged. You can search all of the database very quickly using the search program. Also the database can be easily trained to new staff. In general the program is easy to use and the speed and quality of the new software will attract new customers and improve the morale of current members and staff. How will your system benefit at least one person in the Health Centre?

A03 . How will your system benefit at least one person in the Health Centre? The receptionist will be greatly helped by the new system. It will mean that they are not wasting their time telling patients repetitive information, such as opening times, that could just as easily have been displayed in the new system. It also means that they do not have to spend any time producing posters or the like, to display information like the policies. This means more time can be spent with the patients and doing more vital administrative tasks. In the long run, this may help the Health Centre as a whole, because it may mean they don't have to employ another receptionist, as the work the original receptionist is doing is very specific. 2. What are the drawbacks of using your new system? There are several drawbacks with the system, which could have catastrophic effects. If there was a power cut, the supply to all computers and the system would be cut off, so they would no longer work. This may force the Health Centre to close temporarily. Or there could be computer failure, would mean the receptionist would have a much harder task, also because she would have to explain what went wrong. In extreme circumstances, the whole system may be lost due to the breakdown of the memory in the computer, which would have terrible side effects. This may mean that the whole system may need to be

To design and create a database of customer details to replace the old card system.

GCSE FINAL PROJECT ANALYSIS - TASK 1 TASK: To design and create a database of customer details to replace the old card system. DATA TO INPUT: I will need to input the field names these will be customer name (1.forename, 2. surname), address (1.street name and house number, 2. area, 3. town or city) post code, telephone number, mobile telephone number, most used product or service (for use with the mail merge letter in task 4). There will also be a key field to create a unique identity for each customer. Once I have done this I will enter all the details using the old card system. INFORMATION TO OUTPUT: First I will print out a copy of the full database, then I will use a filter to find all customers that live in Fulwood. After this I will use a sort to put all customers surnames into alphabetical order. CRITERIA FOR SUCCESSFUL JUDGING: The first printout I will have will be of the whole database and will contain all the headings and customers. The second will only have the customers who live in Fulwood, and will contain the headings forename, surname and area. The third printout will contain all the customers but with only the forename and surname fields, the surname field will be sorted into alphabetical order. TESTING: There will be two types of testing needed for this task these are: . Verification, making sure all names are spelt correctly so the filters and
