ICT Coursework – Depreciation Values of CD Prices

ICT Coursework - Depreciation Values of CD Prices Introduction For my coursework I will be investigating the depreciation of CD prices depending on year, genre, record label and public rating. I shall use the tower records website for my main source or research. I will produce a database with all the information. I shall then plot a graph and a spread sheet so that it will be hopefully easy to estimate a price for a CD. Prediction I predict that:- * Older CDs will usually cost less than newer CDs, but there are, of course, going to be exceptions as some older CDs are rare, this is because newer CDs tend to be more popular and so people will be willing to pay more for it. * Double CDs will cost more than single CDs, and triple CDs will cost more than double CDs. This is because it costs more to produce two CDs than one, and more to produce three CDs than two. * CDs that are rare or imported from other countries will cost more than CDs from the UK. This is because for imported CDs, the price includes shipping to the UK. For rare CDs they will cost more because they are harder to find and so therefore people will be willing to pay more for them. * Singles will be cheaper than EPs and albums, and EPs will be cheaper than albums. This is because it costs more to produce an album because of the amount of tracks. It also costs more to produce an EP than a single because of

Creating a Database Coursework

Contents Introduction 2 Inserting a Record 3 Deleting a Record 4 Changing a record 5 Creating a Simple Query 6 Introduction What is a database? A structured set of data held in a computer, esp. one that is accessible in various ways. A database is used to store organized information, so that we can manage and retrieve information. Typically a database is made up of many linked tables of rows and columns, each containing specific data (E.g. name, address, location, size, weight, dates).also, a field: each column represents a field, record: each row represents one record, table: collection records. What are the benefits of using a database in a company? Phones your way are currently using a Roller Deck system. A roller deck system is very UN reliable as it is a paper system therefore, it is easy to misplace and easily damageable. Also, a Roller Deck is also limited to a number of cards. Whereas, a computerised database can hold more information as it has a large memory system. Also, a Roller Deck cannot provide security for the information it contains. While, a computerised database can be password protected. Therefore, only a selected number of people with the password can access and change the data. As well as, it takes an immense amount of time searching through a Roller Decks for a particular file. Whereas, a computer data base will find the data in seconds as it

Software Report

Software Report For a computer to work and perform all the tasks we want it to, there are two important sections, the hardware (see my hardware report) and the software, in this report I am going to talk about software. Software is the name given to all of the programmes the individual can run on the computer hardware. There are two types of software, the Operating System (OS), for example, Microsoft Windows or Linux Ubuntu. The other type of software is the Application Software, for example, Cyberlink Power DVD and Microsoft Office. Hardware is used personally by the individual, they actually touch it, whereas with software it is used through the hardware, for instance I am typing now using the keyboard (hardware) and I am getting what I have inputted on Microsoft Word. To design Type a Flight's new system, I needed to use an OS, available to me was Microsoft Windows XP SP2. This operating system controls all the hardware and software I have used throughout creating the new system. The OS also manages my files, controls the hard drive, runs the DVD±R/RW/ROM I have available and any other hardware I plug in via Universal Serial Bus (USB) e.g. the mouse. The Microsoft Windows XP desktop is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) which means it uses graphics and icons that are used for telling the OS what to do and make it perform tasks. The desktop can be used to display

Report: Creating My Website Choice of Topic I chose to create a website for Apple because I am familiar with their products. I got most of my information from background knowledge of the company. I also believe that they are widely known so the audience would recognize the subject. Choice of Software Application I used Dreamweaver MX to create my website. This application is recognised as a good package for website design and is widely available for home and commercial use. It is easy to use for both home consumers and business users, and it enables the user to include advanced features such as navigation flash buttons, rollover images and form text which are all essential for website production. I have at least one of all of these on my website for presentational purposes. Methods Used to Create Each Slide First of all I set up a new folder in my user area and created 6 new .htm files. All of the websites are in the standard format, .htm. The title for the home page is Apple and for sub-pages I have used appropriate titles for each website, instead of page1and page2. I also created a folder where I could save all the images to be used on my site, so they could easily be navigated to and kept. Here is a screenshot of my folders to make it easier to visualize: Then I opened Dreamweaver and in design layout I added a table to my home page by clicking Insert and Table as

Produce a spreadsheet for a successful and potential company

Description of task In this project I will produce a spreadsheet for a successful and potential company "Belle Du Jour". The company sells products for special occasions such as wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, evening dresses and prom dresses etc. They also sell a range of jewelry and accessories for these special occasions. A spreadsheet will be beneficial to this company as they are very enthusiastic about expanding the successful service they provide customers, but at the moment they are not sure whether this is financially possible. The spreadsheet will help them keep track of their finances in a easy to use format. They would like to expand their business by opening a series of shops in the south east of London. This spreadsheet can supervise Belle Du Jour's finances. This will help to keep track of how much is gained and how much is spent. It will allow us to see how much the company's sales are increasing after the website has been uploaded to the internet. I will be looking to include the following features in my design: * A series of linked sheets involving the company's finances. This will make it easier to manage. The finances are clearer to read when they are on separate sheets. * A summary page of the current financial situation. This page will sufficient to use as you can look at the current balance at a glance. * A page or pages allowing

What is a database?

Databases The concept of what is a database is not exactly taxing in theory, but sometimes it is difficult to visualise what one is. The easiest example that you will be aware of is that little book full of all your friends telephone numbers and addresses. For each of the entries you will record the name, address and telephone number of each person in the book. What you have done is to create a "record" of that person's details, so when you fill in one entry you create 1 record. Of course a little book like this will hopefully not contain just one person's details (although I have to admit that my own social circle is not much larger than 1, my last telephone bill was a little under £3). You will probably enter at least 20 or so people, so you have 20 or records and this makes up a "file". So a file consists of lots of records, and each of the records are made up of name, telephone and address, these 3 things are known as "fields". Not exactly exciting stuff but the definitions are important. In your time you have probably received numerous forms to fill in and may have had a form that is made up of lots of little boxes that you have to fill in with capital letters and only in black ink. A bit like the one below: I know that sometimes there are never enough boxes to get in all your details. For example someone with the surname "Alexanderson-Smith" may not have enough

Database analysis of 'a video lending library'.

Task 1: Identify the problem Introduction: Today I was given a task from my father's friend. His name is Mr.Hussaini. As he owns a video lending library, he has problems maintaining the cassettes and the customers. He uses a manual method for maintaining the business; he uses paper files in order to record the no. of people renting the cassettes from the shop. He keeps each file for every customer who comes in the shop and rents the cassettes in order to keep a record of it. As now he has a huge no. of files for every single customer, it is very difficult for him to trace a customer file when comes to return a cassette. Mr.Hussaini doesn't have a computer currently. Apart from these, he also got more problems, which are put below. Problem: I asked Mr. Hussaini what problems he has been facing so that I can make my solutions suitable for his problems and this is what he told to me 'I have made the following table showing all the problems I have been facing: . Customers are not returning the cassettes on time. 2. Problem maintaining many customers. 3. Problems maintaining the cassettes. 4. Problems in tracking a cassette. 5. Problems in sorting the files in alphabetical order.' Real User: The real user of the system is Mr. Hussaini because he will be the one entering all the information about the customers signing up as a customer in his video library, so he will be

Excel Spreadsheet project

Evaluation The Excel Spreadsheet project I am making is to make a practical and sufficient way of calculating the calorie expenditure and calorie consuming and working how much weight can be lost over a time space. I chose to use Excel Spreadsheet instead of the other solutions because it had many appealing qualities some of the qualities were: - Neater - Quicker to use - Easier to use - Can be saved on disk - Helps customer to calculate caloric intake - Helps customer to calculate caloric expenditure - Cannot be damaged - Can be printed out if needed to. Before making the Excel Spreadsheet project I had created 10 quantitative objectives to help me create the Excel Spreadsheet and meet the user requirements. Here is a list of the user requirements and how I met the quantitative objectives. 0 Quantitative Objectives Here are the 10 Quantitative objectives that I will use in order to create the system. - Fat Fighters Logo on Spreadsheet - This wasn't very hard to do as I saved the picture onto a word document, and copied and pasted the image into the spreadsheet, I also manipulated the image by resizing and cropping the logo, this was easy to do however it was quite time consuming. - Fat Fighters Slogan on Spreadsheet - This was a difficult objective to meet as I had found out later on that the Fat Fighters company did not have a slogan so this objective

I have been asked to create this spreadsheet to help staff at World Club Travel be more efficient in recording customer's holiday bookings.

I have been asked to create this spreadsheet to help staff at World Club Travel be more efficient in recording customer's holiday bookings. The aims of this spreadsheet are to make holiday prices quicker and easier to calculate and to make the process more time efficient. The database will achieve this by making the information faster to access and by cutting down on the amount of paper used. The user won't need to do any of the working out, as the spreadsheet does this automatically. The spreadsheet will be linked with a database that will contain and log information about the holidays and customers. The database and the spreadsheet will work together to provide a fast and reliable service to the company. One of the more advanced features of the spreadsheet is to break down and display all of the individual fragments of the final price. The spreadsheet will display the VAT, which can be altered to cater for any changes the government make, the profit, which is set at 5% but can also be edited, the cost of travel insurance, the final price and the holiday details. Before starting the spreadsheet I had to collect data from three virtual companies' computerized brochures. These three companies were Global Travel, U-Holidays-Direct and Small World. I chose five holidays from each of the companies' brochures, as to keep the spreadsheet of a sensible size. The screenshot
