Online Marketing

eBusiness / Kmart Analysis Online Marketing Marketing businesses, products and services has become much more complex with the introduction of the internet. In this paper I will attempt to describe the effect of e-business on marketing strategies today, as well as describe the e-business marketing strategies utilized by Kmart, Inc. The internet is an enormous environment that is advancing and developing at a very erratic pace, and only companies able to adapt will survive. The World Wide Web provides a medium that breaks through geographical boundaries, allows the customer much more control, and has no time restrictions as it is always "open". According to an article by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson, Niche Marketing on the Web, there are three important steps to marketing on the internet; (1) profile your customers, (2) decide where they congregate, and (3) communicate the message where they congregate in a net-acceptable manner (Wilson, 1996). Bluelight.com, Kmart's e-commerce site launched in 1999, is a shining example of this philosophy, having accumulated over 3.5 million customers in less than one year. Although Kmart had an obvious advantage with a n existing strong customer base, these shoppers were not internet customers. In an effort to establish a web based customer segment, they targeted these existing customers by placing Bluelight.com CD ROM's which provided

How useful are databases for businesses today?

How useful are Databases for Businesses to day? I am going to plan an investigation into how useful databases are for a company in the 21st century. Firstly I am going to explain what a database is. A database is a collection of data that can be used as information. It is understandable as information because of the headings and structure used in the database file. -A FILE is the information given in a subject e.g. Patients records. -A RECORD is a set of information about one given thing e.g. one patients record would contain just information about that person. -A FILE is one piece of information in a record; it also gives meaning to a list of, otherwise meaningless, information e.g. the field heading 'First name' gives meaning to a list of words such as 'Emma', 'Joe', 'Frank' and 'Tom'. -A QUERY is a search of the database for a certain piece of information that could be useful to you, e.g. if you want to sell a platinum credit card then you could do a search for people living in a certain area and then send the information to those people using a mail merge. Alternatively, if you worked in a doctors surgery you could do a search of people who needed a booster jab. -A MAIL MERGE is a letter containing the results of the query sent to certain people who would possibly be interested in that certain information. The type of information that a business might want to

Digital Security Within the Workplace

Digital security within the workplace If you don't want anyone to hack into your computer you are better off being protected by adding a password to protect your files. Files can easily be accessed by anyone and this could lead to your files getting deleted, important files can get hacked into and may result in you not accessing them again. Security is really important this doesn't matter were it could be at home or work, your computer or laptop should always be protected. Data misuse and unauthorised transfer or copying Data misuse falls into the category of accessing someone else's computer System with intentions to commit an offence such as stealing data, without their permission. Unauthorized copying occurs when the exclusive right to reproduce protected work is violated, which is generally when a copy is made from a protected file of work without the copyright owner's permission. The computer Misuse Act doesn't allow somebody else to access a computer by using someone else's identification. Other things include changing, copying, deleting or moving a programme. You cannot also run a program or obtain any data even though it's not for personal gain. Hacking to someone else's account through their password is also listed in the Computer Misuse Act. To avoid such circumstances you can password protect your files and folders so the only person who has access to them

ICT and communication. We all use mobile phones for communication purposes. You can ring and text people

Communication The communication has improved greatly thanks to all the new technologies like mobile phones, internet and satellites. Mobile phones We all use mobile phones for communication purposes. You can ring and text people using pay as you go, or contract. Many people choose to go on pay as you go especially teenagers and children as it is the easiest way to control the amount of money is being spent on the calls and texts. The mobile phones are very easy to use and they make our life a lot easier. You get signal pretty much anywhere, therefore using your phone is always possible. Mobile phones are very useful, when for example your car breaks down and you need to call AA, or when you just need to order a taxi. Teenagers use mobiles for texting throughout most of the day. Many of them have unlimited text therefore they can keep in constant contact with their friends. This does however cause some problems, because when the teenagers are in school they get very easily distracted and instead of learning, they text instead. people use a mobile phone not only for communication purposes; they may use it as a watch, mp3 player, camera, internet browser. All these things are mainly used by the teenagers, as it is normal for them, whereas people from older generations find all of these things weird and they would much more prefer to wear a watch instead of looking at their

IN NEXT MONTH'S 'GOOD PARENTING MAGAZINE' Are your children spending too much time online? Worried about what your children has access to on the internet? Read on to find out if it is suitable for them. I disagree with the point that the internet is bad for children as I am a user; however lets look at the 'dark' side of the internet which makes parents worried. Many parents are concerned about what their children go on, on the internet. For eg. pornography or other websites which are not suitable for children, as most of the content is for 18 years or older. One of the main and most occurring problems of the internet is that children go on pornography websites. As more young people go on pornography websites and other websites then they are more worried about their personal life with their girlfriend/boyfriend instead of schoolwork and homework. Another problem which parents are worried about is of kidnapping perverts who talk to our children on chat websites, eg. MSN etc. You never know who they are talking to a pervert and asking our children to meet them? They might be kidnapped or raped by the pervert. One of the key nuisance are viruses which come onto our computer by our children downloading illegal contents of music and videos from
