Database project

Database Project Project Proposal I propose to create a database for my user, the Manager of a plane rental company to help his plane renting system; this rental system will solve all his problems that he currently has with a paper based system. The new system will be quicker, more accurate and use less storage space then the old system. The many problems my user has with the current system includes that it is time consuming, as you cannot search by any table. For example if you are looking for everyone who rented something out in April you will have to look for it as everything may be stored under first name of the customer. There are other problems such as the records can easily be lost or misplaced as it is on a piece of paper. Also all the pieces of paper added up needs a lot of storage space and eventually my user will have to get rid of many of the records. I will finish this unit between 19 April and 21 July 2006. To do this work I will need a workstation and a printer so my user can see my progress. The software I require is a database for obvious reasons and a word processor to type up my report. I will analyse the situation then implement my solution and test that it works. After this I can evaluate my process and go through the mistakes I have made and how I have overcome them. Analysis * My user is Mr. Abedin the Managing Director of the company. * The

These are some methods of internal communicationTelephone conversation/mobiles-internal/externalCrown crest uses this method so one person can talk to another about matters

Assignment 6 The internal methods of communication are appropriate as it allows the members of staff to communicate to each other especially through ICT as it saves time and is more effective. The external methods allow the company to communicate with people outside the business especial through ICT These are some methods of internal communication Telephone conversation/mobiles-internal/external Crown crest uses this method so one person can talk to another about matters. This can be used both internally and externally e.g. charlotte one of the workers could talk to one of the customers over the phone but could also talk to Anthony who works downstairs to give him a message. If they made the telephone like they have on mobiles where they can see the person who they are talking to like a camera phone, this will make the communication better as staff will find it better to communicate as they can see the person. Telephone conference-internal Crown crest uses this in order to talk to several people at the same time. This is good because they do not have to travel to go to meetings. However there are problems with this as there is no written record and it is quite slow to organize and put together. This is more expensive to set up then just going to a meeting and talking. As ICT becomes cheaper, it will make telephone conferencing cheaper. Ultimately telephone

Legislation protecting people & groups.

LEGISLATION PROTECTING PEOPLE & GROUPS BY Mubarak Umerji Introduction With the advancement of computers and communications in the last thirty years the government has introduced various legislations to protect individuals as well as companies. This coursework details some of these legislations and gives examples of how each legislation protects the computer users and what effects it woul????????d have if the legislation was not introduced. The following lists of legislations are discussed in this coursework: - . Data Protection Act (1998) 2. Computer Misuse Act (1990) 3. Copyright Designs and Patents Act (1988) 4. Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) 5. Health and Safety Regulations (1992) 6. Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (2000) 7. Internet Code of Practice (ICOP) Data Protection Act (1998) As more and more information came to be stored on computers, much of it personal data about individuals, there became the need for some sort of control over the way that it was collected and the way it could be used. The Data Protection Act 1998 replaces the earlier Data Protection Act 1984. The purpose of this Act is to deal with some of the things that weren't around when the older Act was introduced. These new things include the Internet, loyalty cards and use of huge customer databases for marketing purposes. The new Act also covers manually held data not covered

A2 ICT, Task 3 - St. Anthony’s Hospital

Charles Sonnex A2 ICT, Task 3 St. Anthony's Hospital Introduction The application that I have decided to report on is the system at St. Anthony's Private Hospital. . St. Anthony's is situated on the A24, London Road, North Cheam, Surrey and is well served by road and public transport services. Close to the A3 and the M25, it is easily accessible and convenient for both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The parking facilities at St. Anthony's are good with ample spaces. The hospital can arrange for an ambulance service should it be needed. St. Anthony's is a private catholic hospital, which provides private health care for over 200 patients. The company has a huge plot of land, where many buildings stand, including offices, wards, an incinerator, conference centre, restaurant and others such as theatres, x ray rooms and treatment centres. Within the main building, a pharmacy, gift shop and a morgue are also present. There are a number of departments within the organisation. Many perform few tasks using ICT therefore I will look only at the two main departments, which have the greatest use of the computer system at St. Anthony's. These being the Hotel Services Department and the Finance Department. Both have very different roles within the organisation. The role and function of the hotel services department are as follows: * To provide, safe, hygienic, high quality

Statistics Coursework - Football Introduction I have chosen to base my project on football statistics because they are both readily available and interesting enough for deep analysis. As a starting point I decided to look at the generally accepted theory of 'Home Advantage'. Home advantage, or the tendency for the home team to do better than they would away, could have several causes. It could be partly psychological - the home team would almost always have the majority of the crowd behind them, cheering them on. It could also be to do with the condition of the pitch - Premiership teams sometimes find it hard to play on muddy, waterlogged pitches of some lower-division teams. Another factor is the attitudes of referees and officials. Because they are intimidated by the home crowd they often give decisions in favour of the home team, meaning teams may also have a worse disciplinary record when playing away. Hypotheses: . Teams have a worse disciplinary record away than at home 2. Better attended teams have a greater home advantage 3. More successful teams have a better disciplinary record Collecting Data I found that football statistics were easy to find on the internet. I obtained mine from two main sites: http://soccer-stats.football365.com http://www.bettingzone.co.uk There is a very small risk that some of the data I collected could be incorrect. However, I

Database System and Development.

Databases A database is a collection of related data items, which are linked and structured so that data can be accessed in a number of ways. A simple database consists of only one set of data. This is called a flat file database. There are six fields in this database:- Name: Caroline Evans Date of birth: 15/06/83 Colour of hair: Brown Colour of eyes: Blue Weight: 50 kilograms Height: 155cm Functions of a database A database program on a computer is designed to hold information (data). Often the amount of information stored is very large and it would take a long time for us to search through this information if it were written on paper. Holding the information in a database enables us to search very quickly and to sort the information easily. The required data can then be printed out on a report. Fields Each record of a database contains fields where the information is stored. When a new database is being designed, many database packages request the user to specify the type of data that will be entered into each of the fields. This allows the computer to process the data effectively and

Report 3B IMPACT OF ICT ON AN ADULT IN EMPLOYMENT, INCLUDING THE EFFECT ON WORKING STYLE

IMPACT OF ICT ON AN ADULT IN EMPLOYMENT, INCLUDING THE EFFECT ON WORKING STYLE I am going to investigate Stan Chipcate, who works as a wedding planner/clothes designer in Greenford, West London for a huge company called Carrera. He works from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. and often has to carry on some of the paperwork home as the work load generally gets the better of him. The job can interfere with his social and personal life, if for example, he has to continue working till late in the night and his wife is deprived of having a chance to interact with him. Stan generally heeds the use of technologies such as a PDA, his mobile phone and laptop and the internet (i.e. email) for work-related needs. The Technologies that he Uses 1) Laptop: Stan Chipcate depends on his laptop a lot for everyday work. He needs to use it virtually every day for its portable capabilities. A laptop computer or simply laptop (also notebook computer or notebook) is a small mobile personal computer, usually weighing from 1 to 3 kilograms. It allows for a greater practical use, as the mobility is very useful. There also some significant features such as wireless capabilities, (further enhancing the practicality of the laptop) a slim LCD screen and the ability to run on batteries. Here are some advantages: * Laptops are fully functional computers, able to run the same software as a desktop computer. In fact

Advantages of using Simulators

Introduction: Simulations are almost as good as the real thing. It is a program designed to copy a real-life situation. Simulators: Using a simulator has some advantages, they are as follows; . It is much safer, as people are not injured. 2. It is a cheap option as expensive models or full size mock ups don't need to be built. 3. No equipment is damaged. 4. Modifications can be made easily and re-tested quickly. Some disadvantages of a simulator are as follows: . A poor model will give unreliable results. 2. Simulations cannot completely re-create the pressures that a person might be under in a real-life situation. 3. Producing an effective model might be time consuming. 4. Running the simulation might require expensive hardware or software, like with Virtual Reality (VR). A simulation is carried out using a model. A model is an artificial re-creation of an object or trend and should behave in the same way as the real thing. A simulation is when a model is used to carry out an activity that copies real-life occurrences. For example, when a bridge designer uses a model to simulate what will happen when the bridge is actually used. A computer model is created using programmed instructions and equations. An example would be a computer model of the way an aircraft behaves when it is in flight. There are different types of Computer Model, they are as follows; .
