GCSE statistics coursework Introduction In this coursework I am going to investigate the affect that age has on the car. I am going to look at price, engine size, mileage, and age of the car. By the end of the coursework I am aiming to have a set of results about how the cars are affected by the age, price and mileage. My hypothesis should state that . As the age of the car increases its price will decrease 2. The higher the mileage the lower the price. I would meet this entire hypothesis by providing the diagrams below. For scatter diagrams I would be doing the line of best fit. Plan I am going to be collecting a sample of 100 cars. * Box plots * Cumulative frequency * Scatter diagrams. Chester Mumpower MGNT 4680 May 24, 2005 Henry Ford Henry Ford, an extremely hardworking man, was very curious in his early life because he liked to take things apart and ask many questions. He lead and designed the manufacturing of many cars, including the Model T which was the second largest selling car totaling over 15,000,000. In addition to doing this, he lead and managed an enormous company with the help of very few people. When Henry spoke, people listened. Henry had a few dreams that he thought would change the world. For example, he saw that most of the car companies were making cars for the very wealthy, but Ford looked beyond this and dreamed that every family in the United States would own their own car, even the poor farming families. Henry was born into a rather poor farming family during Abraham Lincoln's presidency on July 30, 1863, in a small town called Dearborn located in Michigan. During the first years of Henry's life, he would work on the farm, take his toys apart, and ask many questions such as, "How does a clock work?" (Marcus,p. 45). At the age of 16, Henry left home and found a job as a machinist apprentice. Then, from about 1880 until about 1884, he worked many other jobs usually fixing watches and clocks (Marcus, p.53). While doing this, he was learning more and more about mechanics. Then, in 1885, the first car was invented (Aird, p. 89).

Car Prices Coursework In the near future I am going to be looking to buy car to get around in either when I leave school or when I am in the Sixth form. I am a bit confused about how car prices work and if they go down more due to their age or to the amount of mileage there is on the clock or any other reasons. I thought a bit and I was dicing between doing primary or secondary sampling, finally I choose to use secondary data because I felt that if I had chose to do primary sampling I could have run into unforeseeable problems in the future. As for most teenagers my age a new car is expensive so a second hand car would by more appropriate. For this project I will be looking at cars from two data sources: * The Primary Source. I will be doing my own research by using an "Auto Freeway" magazine for second hand cars and a "What Car?" magazine to find the prices of the cars when they are new. As part of my GCSE Statistics coursework investigation, I have been asked to investigate the factors, which affect the price of a car. To do this I have to break the investigation down into smaller questions. From my point of view the following information that we have been given, has very little or no affect on the price of the car, therefore they will not be investigated: * Insurance * Doors * Central locking * Seats * Gearbox * Airbags The question I have chosen, "What factors affect the price of a used car?" now needs to be broken down into sub-questions to find out which factors affect the price of a car the most.
