The lyrical, slow-moving opening sequence is a dazzling combination of cinematography, music and hallucinatory images from the brutal and destructive war in Vietnam. [There are no traditional opening credits or titles. The title of the film appears as graffiti toward the end of the film in the complex presided over by Kurtz.] The sounds of the war chopper blades (chuk-chuk-chuk) are heard and flaming sights of war are seen at the edge of a green-canopied jungle of palm trees as napalm is dropped. The mind-altering, mournful words of the soundtrack from The End: "This is the end..." (sung by burned out 60s rock star Jim Morrison of the Doors) play over nightmarish memories of the war. Dust swirls and golden napalm fill the air. In 1968, debauched, moody, divorced Army Captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen) of US Army Intelligence (505th Batallion, 173rd Airborne), lies in a sleazy, dingy, sepia-toned Saigon hotel room, isolated, alienated, sweat-bathed and recovering from battle fatigue. (At first, his inverted face is superimposed over the left half of the screen.) There are panning shots of his dog tag, a pile of bills, his wallet, a woman's picture, an opened letter and envelope, cigarettes, a glass and Cordon Bleu bottle, and a gun lying next to his pillow. He is drinking and deliberately closed off from the outside world, haunted by his liquor-induced memories of the

This project requires me to produce a imaginary business

Pacey's Electrical Shop This project requires me to produce a imaginary business. To do this I must research into all aspects of a business, using books, people, and computer resources. To help me do this I will create action plans, that I will evaluate and redesign as I proceed during the project. The reason for the action plan is to help keep track and organize what I am doing, it also shows points that I must cover for my business to be successful. In this project there are certain parts of the project that can be decided before I created a action plan these are: What will I sell- I will sell electrical goods like televisions, videos, and hi-fis ect... My shop name- I will call my shop "PES" (Paceys's Electrical Shop). From what I already know I have decided to make my business a sole trader operation as these are the easiest to set up. Also in a sole trader business I will get to keep all of the profits. Also as I am a sole trader business there are less regulations that I have to comply with. As a sole trader I do not have to make my business accounts available to any one except the inland revenue. This is useful as it saves me time, and it keeps my business dealings secret to the public. What is the aim of "PES" The aim of "PES" is primarily to be able to compete with other companies in the local area. Also to brake even, but provide a high quality service to

Advertising is necessary to let us know what is new.

Advertising is necessary to let us know what is new. This is not necessary true, but can be, if someone does not have that product then it will tell him or her it is new and if the advert is affective it may convince the person watching to buy that product. Examples of adverts that are effective and do this are : .) The X-Box advert with the flying man tells us that the X-box is a new console but does not explain what the X-box is about, a persuasive advert such as this is made to be entertaining and convince you to buy an X-box. The X-box is a new console and the advertising adds up to the hype that it received. The advert does a good job at ensuring the person watching knows about the X-box, but does not show its specifications. 2.) Pizza Hut shows us that new pizzas are coming out all of the time an example of the Sicilian, and example for McDonalds is the new Mc Choice menu. Both of these are marketing schemes intended on making more money for the company, not just showing us what is new. It does show us what is new but chances are we will walk into a McDonalds or Pizza Hut and just see it on the menu and order it, the goodwill gets them the profit not the adverts. However some adverts do the exact opposite to this and do not inform us of what is new but of other things. 3.) Whereas the Andrex adverts just shows us the same product over and over again but with a

Gender in the Media

Gender in the Media This project is concerned with studying different types of media and the advertising found in these media. The issue of Gender in advertising is very prominent in the world today. In all types of advertising, from TV to billboards, gender is used as a device to gain attention and this is usually achieved by the use of stereotyping. I have chosen this particular area of study because I feel that gender, especially in the form of sex, is exploited in advertising. It seems to me that advertisements often rely on gender to sell products, either by exploiting sexual imagery, or by persuading the viewer that their life would be better, or that without the predicts the individual may in some way be inferior. I feel that these tactics, although effective, can create gender stereotypes, some of which may be negative. In the past, advertising stereotyped men and woman into specific gender roles. Manstead and McCulloch identified these in their study of TV advertisements. They stated that males were portrayed as powerful, dominant, rational, interested in DIY, more likely to be the central character and be the 'voice over'. They continued to state that women were portrayed as mothers and housewives, users of products rather than sources of information about them. This practice still continue as seen in the Strongbow 'Live to Loaf' adverts which portray

For the first year the aim of my business will also be to become a well established business, and to remain open (not be forced to close due to lack of business). What is a market? A market is where the sellers meet the buyers to exchange money for a product of service. The term "market" is actually used to describe the people whom the product is sold to. This does not always involve face to face selling, it could selling over the television. For a shop there can be different markets, e.g. domestic, and business. My market- My market is going to

ICT AQA 2006-2008 Problem 1, Theme Park

Design Section The design of the solution for Problem One of Lancre Theme Park has asked me, Bernie; to produce a 4 page interactive presentation, which, consists of 3 stages. These are as follows; * Choosing the software that will be used to solve the problem * Planning the solution which means producing design plans that will be followed during implementation. * Producing a test plan that will be used to check that the solution works. Much software is suitable for the task, initially I was undecided, but after looking at the advantages, disadvantages and criteria for the result, it became clearer. I produced a table; a simple layout helped me with my resolution. The choices I had were Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and finally Microsoft Publisher. The use of Microsoft PowerPoint was one of the first ideas; the reason for this was simply that; I had experience with the package, while knowing that the main features I needed were available. PowerPoint is a very powerful tool that allows one to create multimedia presentations. It can be used in a wide variety of contexts from providing an informational backdrop at a poster presentation to enhancing a lecture at conferences, this is a disadvantage to me, because audiences at conferences do not use the screen to touch, instead it is used mainly for viewing. Many users are initially attracted to PowerPoint because of
