How does Ridley Scott create and destroy gender stereotypes in Thelma and Louise?

How does Ridley Scott create and destroy gender stereotypes in Thelma and Louise? In the 1991 film Thelma and Louise, the director Ridley Scott creates and destroys gender stereotypes successfully of that period in time and helps us to believe that the characters portrayed by Susan Surandon and Geena Davis were real. Here are a few examples of gender stereotypes: In the first scene of the movie, Thelma was in her kitchen wearing a frilly and flowery night gown and the phone was ringing and she called to her husband, "I'll get it." This shows that Thelma is a house slave and Ridley Scott dipicts this as he films Thelma on a low angle and when Thelma's husband Darryl walks into the kitchen, he is filmed on a low angle to make him seem a lot bigger and fiercer than he really is. He is shown as already in his work uniform and this tells us that Thelma is a housewife and her entire day is pent locked up inside the house preforming chores. When Thelma is just about to ask Darryl if she can go for the weekend on a roadtrip with Louise, she got scared and ended up asking him if he wanted anything special for dinner that night. To which Darryl simply replies, "Thelma, I don't give fuck what we have for dinner tonight. I might not even make it home from work tonight." This shows that Darryl is an unfaithful husband and is having an affair. Thelma suspects this and

Film Review - The Dark Knight

BIGGER. BETTER. BADDER If you thought Batman Begins was amazing, just wait until you see this. At the start of Dark Knight, Batman (Christian Bale) is doing his usual thing: ridding the city of Gotham of the classic petty crime. But when a new criminal mastermind known as The Joker (the late Heath Ledger) comes into the picture, he must join forces with new District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman). The Joker quickly propels Gotham into anarchy and pushes Batman closer and closer to the line that differentiates a hero from a vigilante. With a plot such as this, good acting is needed in order for it to be effective. And the actors in Dark Knight were right on spot. Christian Bale gave another superb performance as our masked hero and suave billionaire. And as a bonus: even when fighting he managed to be as cool and macho as ever. Whoever the casting director was, I would like to give them a high five. Why? Because they hired Maggie Gyllenhaal and dropped Katie Holmes like a hot potato. Holmes was the only weak spot when it came to the acting in Batman Begins, but Maggie delivered a much better performance as Rachel Dawes in Dark Knight. She actually evoked emotion, an ability Katie Holmes has never quite grasped. Running time 52 minutes Language English Budget $185 million Gross revenue $1,001,921,825 Gary Oldman really

Unit 3C: ICT Meeting Special Needs

Unit 3C: ICT Meeting Special Needs I have researched: Mohammed Aziz Introduction The person that I am going to be studying is Mr. C Aziz a man who lost his eyes when he was at the age of 32, due to an accident with a group of hooligans assaulting Mr Aziz on his way home one evening. Now Mohammed is currently 32 years of age and he and his wife live with their two sons. Mohammed Aziz is a musician, who aspires to one day be able to play as well as his idol Stevie Wonder. The topic blindness is often stereotyped to the thought of sight being gone forever, however in some cases of Blindness there is a chance of seeing again, however sadly in Mr Aziz's case, this is not a possibility. Blindness is the inability to see anything. Some people are called blind, even though they can see a vaguely. This is because they cannot see clearly, but can only see fuzzy shapes or colours. In modern countries, few young people are blind. Blindness is mostly caused by diseases of old people, like cataracts and trachoma. Sometimes, though, people are born blind. Some people are colour blind, which means they can see, however cannot tell certain colours apart. When people are blind they use such things as the alphabet in Braille and guard dogs to do every day things. Although again in Mohammed's case sadly he is not colour blind but fully blind. Antenatal Leaflet Plan

Name I have been asked as my resource task to make an antenatal leaflet for a young mother to help her with her pregnancy. Antenatal care is important for a pregnant mother because it makes sure that both the baby and the mother are well and that the pregnancy is all going well and if the mother has any questions or problems, she can ask her GP. The information I will include in the leaflet will be made suitable for a young pregnant mother by making to leaflet look attractive and interesting. I will use colour and pictures to also make it look eye-catching and stand out so that if there are lots of other leaflets to choose from, the mother will choose mine. I will make sure that the writing is not too small and I will also make the font simple and easy to read. I will also try not to put in too much writing which may even put the mother off reading the leaflet. The type of information which I will put inside the leaflet will be about and give advice on: o Smoking o Clothing and footwear o Diet o Medicines and drugs o Hygiene o Rest and exercise o Benefits I will try to make the leaflet look eye-catching by using pictures and animation. On the front of the leaflet I will put a photo of a young mother with a baby and throughout the leaflet I will include pictures of pregnant mothers so that the young mother feels as comfortable as possible with how she looks and so

GCSE Dance Extended Notes

I chose this piece of music because of the clear-cut and established structure, which helped mark certain moments of my dance and distinguish each section from one an other. Instead of the background music being accompanied by actual words, after the main build up of the song a woman can be heard singing strange hypnotic noises. I think this compliments the idea of freedom in the second part of my dance, because now my persona is free of oppression they can express themselves in whatever way they want to, like the woman singing in the piece of music. It is noticeable that before, and including the build up to the singing woman that the music is very repetitive. When played along to my dance, I thought it represented the monotony of a slave's life. However, what could be also heard in the build up was a glimmer of endearing hope, because even though the music represented sadness, the tone stayed bright throughout. In the first section of the dace I wanted to show snippets of the slave's usual day. I also wanted to keep the energy in the dance gentle and keep a minimum amount of strong energy in it. This is because I waned the audience to relate to the feeling of being confined and ordered around. Also, it mainly focuses on the idea of freedom being in the form of hope inside the personas head, rather than freedom being expressed in movements which would be associated with

Saving Private Ryan review

Saving Private Ryan There have been many war films made, some successes, others are flops. But there is something about Saving Private Ryan that makes it a masterpiece. Who knows what it is - a great director, an all star cast, or even its realism? It seems to fall all together to make, in my opinion, the greatest war motion picture ever made besides Band of Brothers. D-day would have been a tough time for many, millions of people. All the hell they would have of went through. Saving Private Ryan is based on d-day with Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) who is sent on a mission with his squad, to rescue a Private James Ryan (Matt Damon) and take him out of war, due to his three brothers being killed in combat in the one day. He also picks out soldiers who have served him through the war. In the first 30 minutes of the movie, we see a very graphic war scene of the beaches of Omaha, located in France. Many, many people die here, there are explosions, and A LOT of blood. From just this scene you can see why this movie got an R 18+ rating. However the scene seems so realistic, the technique is just about perfect, you could only imagine what D-day would have been like back then. Steven Spielberg solely made these scenes with help of his father, and the stories he has told him before. The end result: Masterpiece. In addition to showing what happens when bullets fly into human

The Quick and the Dead review

Wild West is back with the sensational thrashes and browbeats!!! Be quick or be dead! That is what Sam Raimi is trying to verbalize through his 1995 western express 'The Quick and the Dead'. The film is just like an old comic book, which came back to life! Raimi had always expressed style of his own through breath taking horror films such as 'The Evil Dead', 'Darkman' and more recently 'Spiderman'. He has used his quick-draw adventure with all the twisty camera tricks in this spaghetti western film. Every minutes and seconds of this 1hour 45 minutes, are not going to be a waste of time. Simon Moore's story came to life through the production of Joshua Donen, Patrick Markey and Allen Shapiro. The film is distributed by Columbia Tri-Star. Extremely intense, straightforward and contentious, Golden Globe-winning actress Sharon Stone, escaping from her usual glamorous roles, had a great welcome from the western world as the fans rushed in to the theatres as the movie get released. The three times Oscar nominee Russell Crowe along with Golden Globe winning Leonardo Dicaprio and two time Academy Award winner Gene Hackman and a huge list of other actors as well.......... Yee haw... Let the revenge fantasies of deadly tournament begin! The plot of this movie is conceived brilliantly and the dialogue is surprisingly up to standard. We could take a terrific fun of each scene!

A profile of my study child.

My task analysis began with a profile of my study child, Jack Bateman to give me a slight idea of the background of himself and his family. I had found facts such as his birthday, his family, where he lived, likes and dislikes helping me understand Jack's individual personality. This was a starting point of my coursework, a starting point to help me realise which one of the developments I will use to focus on Jack during my own study coursework. Although I could have added more detail to the information I used for my profile I think that I did it well overall as I got to the point and it did show me about Jack's personality etc. The age that I have focussed on is five years old and looking up to six years old to have a basic knowledge of what Jack's developments should progress to. I then looked at physical development, intellectual development and social and emotional development. These three pages gave me an incite of what each of these developments mean towards a five year old progressing in age. Each page describes what the area of development covers, what a five year old should be able to do in this development, the skills that they will next be developing are and finally summarising what skills my study child has already developed in this area. For physical development I believe I did this well with speed and with the correct information needed to complete this sheet.
