“It is not possible to be a true disciple of Jesus in the modern world”Do you agree or disagree?

 Not believing that Christians today can follow Jesus because he is dead raises the types of questions that scrutinise the faith of those asking such questions. For example, how can you say you believe in something if you only believe what you see?  If you are willing to believe that you can’t follow someone unless you can physically see him or her, you can’t possibly believe in God.  This is because nobody alive today can say they have seen God.  This is due to the fact that the Bible tells us that Jesus is the only way to God we, as humans have.

The word ‘disciple’ has also been translated into the phrase ‘one who learns’.  This means that it actually is possible to be a true disciple of God in the modern world as many Christians spend either much or all of their spare time at their local church worshipping and learning about God or doing so elsewhere.  For people to do their worshipping and learning about God, they will need to read and refer to the Bible.  In doing so, they are being taught the very same lessons that Jesus taught to his disciples during his time on earth.

I therefore believe that it is possible to be a true disciple of Jesus in the modern world.  The Bible was given to us to bring us the teachings and good news that Jesus is alive and is willing to forgive those who are genuinely sorry and ask meaningfully for forgiveness.  The Bible was meant to be used so that we are able to read it and become true disciples by taking in the teachings and learning from them the way Jesus wants us to be.
