Usually the people that are convicted to the death penalty have committed murder or another capital offence. Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty has been more popular. In the past many more countries did carry out death penalty. However nowadays, there are 87 countries in the world that execute convicted murderes and 108 that do not. It is important to mention that the countries that use capital punishement, are the countries with a higher population number. The USA is an example. Now one must think how can the currenlty most developed country in the planet still use this kind of atrocious type of punishment. People that support the death penalty claim that the USA´s high development indicies and fairly low crime rates are partly due to the application of capital punishment. However, non supporters argue that the death penalty does not influnce in the countries statistics. This is because the death penalty appertains mainly to the southern states. Normally these states have a history of mistreatment of people.
