Mahatma Gandhi’s death was on Jan. 30, 1948. This all happen hen the Hindu- Muslim riots where going on and Gandhi turned to non-violence. He fasted until the rioters promised peace to him. A Hindu who had been angered by the Mahatma's efforts to settle Hindus and Muslims. Put his life to an end with three pistol shots. As the first bullet struck, Gandhi's foot, which was in motion, descend to the ground, but he remained standing. The second bullet struck; blood began to stain Gandhi's white clothes. Gandhi murmured. "Hey, Rama (Oh, God)." A third shot happened. The limp body settled to the ground. His spectacles dropped to the earth. The leather sandals slipped from his feet.
Mahatma Gandhi’s devoted his life mainly to help others, in Ahimsa, non-violence and Hindu – Muslim riots, he was largely inspired by the Gita- the Hindu holy book. Basically he believed everyone should have equal rights. His successes in life were when he studied law in England, got a job in South Africa, when he did the salt march, identified him self with the untouchables- which are India’s poorest people.
Gandhi was really concerned about the increasing divisions between the Hindu and Muslim’s. He tried as much he could to prevent the partition between the Hindu and Muslim’s. However the amount of success he had been trough this was very different and he did not achieve what he wanted. He was very disappointed about the separation between the Hindu and Muslim’s. To prevent the civil war, Muslims were given a separate state and it was agreed. India was independent but not united. To Gandhi’s partition meant that millions of Hindus and Muslims had to move from one state to another, becoming refugees. There were many classes and killings just as Gandhi feared. Unfortunately a Hindu, who had been angered by the Mahatma's efforts to settle Hindus and Muslims, put his life to an end with three pistol shots. When Mahatma Gandhi became the national leader, he had many support from the Hindu’s and Muslims. He toured the country preaching his strong views on non-violence and Ahimsa. Gandhi allowed the lowest caste, the untouchables to join the ashram, but wealthy Hindu’s protested and stopped giving financial aid.
Gandhi’s opinion on non-violence was-
“No violence requires a double faith. Faith in God and also faith in man."
However, he also used non-violent persuade his people to seek freedom from British rules/laws. He settled many more disagreements, he tried to teach people is don’t let the British rule India. He tried to show peaceful ways of disobeying British laws. He told Indians to spin cloth for their own clothes instead of buying it from Britain. This helped a lot, as it was less expense for them. For this people admired him beliefs, his kindness to all men, and his simple way of life. He broke a British law, by going on a salt march- that was making their own salt from seawater instead of buying it from the government. His difficulty was also that he was sent to prison seven times for disobeying British laws. It was only the British who Gandhi was influenced badly by, but he still stood for his rights. Still Mahatma Gandhi’s aim was only to help others and those how are suffering to give them equal opportunities. Gandhi did achieve his aims- (India did became independent) although he had to suffer and argue trough a lot.
Mahatma Gandhi in his childhood has very shy and was afraid of many things. Subsequently he became rather broad-minded and a very strong person, who had the ability to help people who suffer and change the way the British law worked. Gandhi had his own strong views on things such as non-violence and Ahimsa. Mahatma Gandhi’s good qualities were when Gandhi set about three changes to help other people, which were-
- Starting more schools
- Set up Indian village industries to make more cloth and stop foreign cloth coming into the country.
- Founded an Ashram or religious retreat, where followers could lead a simple and religious life.
Mahatma Gandhi did not have any weaknesses however if he did he was able to overcome it. He was famous as the ‘father of modern India.’ Gandhi treated everyone equally- so identified him self with the untouchables.
"Let us become the changes we seek in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi had contributed to the society. He introduced a system of hygiene and first aid in remote villages this helped people a lot. Gandhi got his people out of the British laws. He also started up more schools, hospitals etc in the society, which helped people, such children who did not go to a school got a chance to be educated and hospitals could help injured people more quicker. If Gandhi was never born he would have been really missed as India could have still be running under British laws, non-violence wouldn’t have been such an important thing, Gandhi has inspired a lot of people into winning the equal rights. The untouchable would still be treated very badly. Mahatma Gandhi had changed the way of life in India and made it Independent, which we should be proud of. Ordinary people can learn from Mahatma Gandhi that we all are equal matter what religion or how high or low caste we are, live peacefully together and help other people who suffering. We also learn that we should care and be there for each other to lead a happy life.
I think Mahatma Gandhi led a worthwhile life throughout his whole life. He always did something to help others. He didn’t care if he went to jail, but he just tried to help free India from British rule, by showing Indians peaceful easy of disobeying British laws. The affect I have from Mahatma Gandhi is that we should fight for our rights, as everybody has equal rights. Also that we should help the sufferers and the poverty and let them live a peaceful life.
