Emperor Nero. Persecution means to treat someone with continuous cruelty or unfairness. People are usually persecuted because of their beliefs; it takes many forms including torture, imprisonment, violence, cruelty and many others. The followers of Jesus were known as Christians and in the time when Rome was ruled by Emperor Nero they were persecuted very harshly. In Rome, Christian's were viewed as different, and the Romans often blamed them if things went wrong. The Romans were polytheists, this means that they believed in many God's such as Venus, Cupid and Apollo. On the other hand the Christians were monotheists, this means that they believed in only one God. Sacrificing for their Gods was one thing that the Romans felt strongly about and believed in as they thought it would get the Gods on their side. They thought the Christians to be unpatriotic as they did not join war as they did not believe in it. The Romans did not understand the Christina religion and the re-enactment of the last supper; they accused them of cannibalism. Nero was Roman emperor from 54AD to 68AD. He was a cruel and violent man who took pleasure in hurting people and watching others suffer, just like his mother Agrippina. Agrippina was a devious and power driven woman and was prepared to go to any lengths to get the things she wanted. Her biggest wish was fro her son, Nero to become emperor of
Explain why some Christians join communities and take vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience.
R.E Course work Msgana Semere Explain why some Christians join communities and take vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience. Some Christians join communities and take three vows of poverty, chastity and obedience so they can dedicate them selves to their faith Christianity. Long ago three centuries after the death of Christ to be Christian meant to become a martyr, to die for your beliefs. When Christianity became more acceptable Christians joined together in groups or communities. These Christians were called Hermits because they lived away from civilization; this was the start of the monastic life. These Christians wanted to become perfect Christians so they separated them selves from worldly life. They fell that they are being close to God. Today some Christians chose to become a member of a religious community because it is their vocation. There are two types of religious communities a man or a woman can chose from a contemplative and apostolic. A contemplative order involves being separated form the everyday world and an apostolic community involves around the public, helping the ill, caring for the sick and the old, preaching and teaching. There is a big difference between these communities; to join a Christian would have to be dedicated and ready to become a better Christian and to serve God. A Christian who is part of a religious
Should Christians take part in Sporting events or go shopping on a Sunday?
Should Christians take part in Sporting events or go shopping on a Sunday? There are many different views on whether Christians should not take part in sporting or go shopping on a Sunday. I believe the person should have the right to do what they want to do, but we all known that this is not the case. People are forced to do things that they don't want to do so the public will accept them. A Sunday is a day for which people should go out and enjoy themselves and do whatever they want. Some people work for six days and Sunday is the only day off and would be the only chance for them to spend time with their family to enjoy themselves. It is not fair for leisure centre and shopping centres to be closed on Sundays, as some cultures don't agree with this commandment. These people are not able to go shopping or use the leisure centres facilities because local councils believe that Christians shouldn't take part in sporting events or to go shopping on a Sunday. After a hard week at work, people like to have a good time by playing football or other sporting events on a Sunday. Nowadays people can gamble or drink on a Sunday. Traditions have changed, as twenty years ago you wouldn't have been able to do this. Even churches Organise events on Sunday. It is no longer a major sin if people do not worship all day Sunday. It is very hard to expect people to spend all day in the
Explain what religious people might do to help the victims of war
Explain what religious people might do to help the victims of war Religious people believe in stewardship and in the sanctity of life and therefore this means they would do anything to help the victims of war. The religious people also will help anyone no matter what side they are because they believe that life is sacred and must not be destroyed. Christians and Muslims believe in these teachings and therefore will help anyone suffering because they think it is wrong to see them suffering and they must stop that. They believe that GOD makes everyone in his own image so by harming other humans we are harming GOD. The quote in the Islamic Quran says in Hadith 13 that to treat others how you would be like to be treated. This teaches Muslims that they should help people and victims because that’s how they would like to be treated. In the Bible in Matthew 5:38-48 it teaches Christians about bringing your enemies closer so basically saying you should not discriminate if they are your enemy and you should help anyone and everyone possible. Religious charities are also present and they help victims of war without any hesitation or discrimination. Some of them are Medicines sans Frontiers, British Legion, and Help for Heroes. The more known and global ones are Red Crescent which is an Islamic based charity and the Red Cross which is a Christian based charity. The Red Crescent is
What Christians believe about life is up to them, they should not try to make others accept their position
mara wanot 10m AO3 "What Christians believe about life is up to them, they should not try to make others accept their position." Do you agree? Christians believe that life comes from God and belongs to God. Therefore Christians have the duty to speak out and protect those who don't have the chance to speak for themselves e.g. the unborn child. In the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20) before Jesus ascended he said, "go, then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you", to his disciples. This for Christians means that we have the duty to speak out God's word and help people facing problems. When Jesus called his disciples he told them, "If anyone wants to come with me, he must forget self, carry his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his own life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it." Here we can see that Christians are taught to choose the hard way of life to get more out of it. Christians may argue that nobody has the right to force anyone but everyone has the right to speak out and hold their own opinion, even if it means they will suffer for voicing their views. Other people may argue Christians should keep their opinions to themselves because what they think is a private matter
"It's my life and I can do what I want"
RE coursework-A03 "It's my life and I can do what I want" There are two sides to this statement. On one hand a Christian could say it is his or her life and they should be able to make their own choices. Humans have free will and they are responsible for the choices they make whether they are good or bad. Since they are Christian they have the grace of the Holy Spirit given by god to make good moral choices, this means that god will help you decide what to do. Christians have Jesus as an example of what to live like and people are often persecuted for their beliefs in our society. Our society can put pressure on young Christians and use peer pressure to make them go againsed gods will. We might be pressured into sexual relationships before marriage, contraception or abortions. On the other hand Christians do not have the right to always do what they want in life. Christians become part of the body of Christ at their baptism; if they were going to have an abortion their choice would affect people such as their families and friends. Christians have a duty to respect their bodies because they are they are the temple of the Holy Spirit, "food for the stomach, and stomach for the food"(Matthew 5) this means to do things in moderation and not to abuse your body with issues regarding drugs, alcohol and sex immorality. Christians have a duty to preserve the moral law. Christians

Compare 4 poems in which violence is shown
Compare 4 poems in which violence is shown Violence, what would the world be like without violence? For a number of characters in these poems violence is a part of their everyday life. Violence exists in different forms and can be inflicted in different ways. In 'Hitcher' by Simon Armitage violence got to the extreme as he physically beat someone to death and threw him out the car. In 'Stealing' by Carol Ann Duffy the violence came from anger and the anger had been built up so much that he took it out on a snowman due to his jealousy for other people in life. In 'Education for Leisure' also by Carol Ann Duffy the violence was brought on by depression and insanity because he was so unrecognized he was urged more and more by every person who ignored him to do something that would make him known ad famous. The violence in 'The Man he Killed' by Thomas Hardy is not violence from the decision of the man himself as he is at war and has been given an order to kill, so when he comes one on one with a foe then he does his
