Problems with old age.

One of the most dangerous aspects of life in this Day in age is fire. Many people know that the danger in fire is the smoke and I think if can be detected before it gets really bad it can be attended to with ease. I know that there are smoke alarms on the market but I don’t have one at home so I thought I would make one instead of having to buy an expensive one. I think a very sensitive one would be best.

Problem Identification

Being a teenager with two sets of grandparents and a lot of elderly close family friends I am aware of the problems that old age brings with them. Sometimes it is the persons sight that begins to go sometimes it is co-ordination. In some cases there can be the onset of disease for example arthritis, rheumatism or in some cases other people are just to weak to do things. It isn’t always the elderly either, people can be born with disabilities or perhaps gain them through an accident of some kind. There are off course the lucky percentage who go through life “FIT AS A FIDDLE” and then the unlucky one who may have a combination of the above listed.
Taps are one of the trickiest things for a disabled or elderly person to master as they are small slippery when wet can be very tight.

Design brief

To design and make a control system which will limit the amount of water which will flow from a tap the device must be finished in such a way that it will blend in with a kitchen or washroom. The device must be adjust able to allow different volumes of water to flow out for different purpose for example:

                                                                         Filling a kettle

                                                                         Getting a glass of water

                                                                         Getting water to do the dishes in

The device must have large easily adjustable settings which are easily read so that people with poor sight or a disability e.g. weak grip can use the device.
