Why I want to be an Engineers

I always knew that I wanted to work as an engineer; but I also knew my traditional family would not be so pleased. Born in a family with full of successful business man and women, I was often discourage to do anything except business. To my father, an engineer is too common, too normal and too little money. I see things differently. And yet, his approval means a lot to me and his opinion has certainly influenced the direction of my career. But I have finally come to understand that I must pursue my own path. After many deliberations, I am confident that civil engineering is, without a doubt, the right career for me. Ever since my childhood I have detected in myself a certain interest to face challenges and solving problems. I was the kid who would always buys building puzzles and the Lego that requires a lot of time to solve. I desire to build the best buildings, the best roads, and the best bridges. During my high school years, I was able pursue my passion in science and mathematic, especially Physics. I was very studious in these areas because my interest kept me going and trying harder. Despite my conservative family, I was fortunate to have the best teachers encouraging me to pursue my own dreams and my own path. One of those teachers is Mr. Briber, a physics teacher of my freshman class. In every project that I did such as the toothpicks bridge project to the egg drop

Work experience. The first time those words were mentioned I felt a cold shiver

Work experience. The first time those words were mentioned I felt a cold shiver slowly descend down my back. Images of spending a week with unknown people in dead-end jobs flooded into my head. It was obviously going to be far too much effort for what it was worth. Yet, another side of me said do I want to be watching paint dry, or even watching grass grow.' This is not where I want to be. I want to be out, I want to be experiencing, living, running, jumping, eating, playing, screaming, laughing, anything. I had to apply to a company for a two week placement, and this had to be done through proper procedures, so I had to make sure my curriculum vitae was up to date and well presented. I first began to think what type of work experience would I most enjoy and benefit from. I thought I would like to work in a computer related placement since I am doing IT as a GCSE and I have a keen interest in it. I went along to the careers office and talked to the careers teacher but he didn't quite have what I wanted so I went home and done some research on the internet and found a contact number and e-mail, I phoned the number and asked about any work experience opportunities and they said the best thing was to e-mail my queries to a certain e-mail address. I e-mailed this person and they replied wanting to know what was the exact specification of this work experience. After several

My Experience of Work

AMDG Monday 28th October 2002 My Experience of Work "I now pronounce Liam Bartlett and Jennifer Lopez to be husband and wife" I was so excited when the priest whose name I do not recall belted out those words. I was filled with such a large amount of joy and cheer that I didn't know what to do next, I was static to the floor in the huge gothic church in front of the altar. The priest's voice was so soft and the next sounds I heard just floated out of his mouth through the air. "You may kiss the bride" These words, said by the old priest, were like music to my ears. I leant over and removed the veil from my new wife's beautiful face and kissed her. It was heavenly. I was thrilled that I had achieved my life long goal of marrying Jennifer Lopez. Infact I was so ecstatic that I remember thinking that it was all my imagination and that I must have been dreaming when I married Jennifer Lopez. Sadly, my theory was correct and the marriage was just a dream. I remember my Bart Simpson alarm clock on my bedside cabinet adjacent to my bed shrieking out the sound of "hey man, eat my shorts" over and over again. The marriage to Jennifer Lopez was all a dream and it was time to check back into the real world and get ready for my first day of work experience. I didn't particularly mind that the marriage was a dream because I didn't

The Police were to blame for not capturing Jack the Ripper, use the sources and your own knowledge. Many people believe that the police were to blame for not capturing Jack the Ripper, but there are many reasons to believe they are not. Firstly the area in which the murders took place was Whitechapel and there are many factors of Whitechapel that could lead us to suggest that the police were not to blame for not capturing Jack. One of these factors is Whitechapel geographical structure, we know from previous knowledge that Whitechapel consisted of many alleyways and back routes. Source E supports this in stating 'are connected by a network of narrow, dark and crooked lanes; when referring to Whitechapel's assembly. Source E, which is part of an article, originated from after the second murder committed by jack and this infers that it would be reasonably accurate in its descriptions of Whitechapel. Another source that supports my previous knowledge is source I, a map that presents these narrow passage ways to us that venture far from the main road. If there are many dark passages for Jack to slip into, this makes it much harder for the police to catch him in the act as Jack could use complicated routes to get as far from the crime scene as possible and if these passage ways are dark he could've hid in dark corners without being saw by the Police. This is most definitely not

Non Fiction Writing - My Work Experience.

Michele Dominique English Coursework 1A1 27.03.04 Non Fiction Writing My Work Experience For my work experience, I went to work at a hairdresser's, located on South Norwood Hill around where I live which turned out to be quite convenient for me! It was called Jon-Paul's and was run by a woman called Amanda Burns. The manager of the salon was to be my boss for 2 whole weeks. Sally White was her name, she was a very nice but firm person who seemed to put her career before anything else in her life. I got this impression from the first day I met her; the way she approached me was done in a quite distant manner, she spoke in a tone which very much meant business and from that first day, I knew there would be no fooling around as long as I was to be under her supervision. There were in total about, 10 professional hairstylists coming in on different days, and 3 junior helpers who all looked around my age. This made me feel so relieved back then for I didn't think I could possibly socialise with women, none of whom looked anywhere near my age. One of the junior helpers who was there on my first day made me feel very welcome; we clicked instantly and we were chatting like old friends by the end of the day. Before I went to work at this place, I felt very

Planning work experience.

Citizenship Course work. Planning work experience. The citizenship activity was going on work experience. This involved researching different work places and your interests, deciding on a work experience placement that you would like to go to, skills required to type up a letter of application and CV. After this we went on work experience and experienced the working world. By going on work experience I aim to gain experience and find out if I am suited to this type of working environment and to also explore the working environment. I am also aiming to gain confidence by working independently, ensure I meet deadlines and complete all of my work to a good standard, co-operate with others when working in a group and identifying my own responsibility within the group, improve my confidence, be cheerful and enthusiastic, and gain awareness of my strengths and weaknesses. Soon after year 10 had begun I was told about work experience and shortly after I was told that it was now up to me to find a placement I would like to go to. I had not yet decided where I wanted to go on work experience and so I gave myself time to decide. I was then told that the deadline for finding my own placement was approaching. I decided to go to Superdrug pharmacy as I am interested in pharmacy and I thought work experience in a pharmacy would be a good working experience. I went to the shop and got

Careers Project

Phase 1 Planning Aims: . Project Choice: I am going to write my project on careers. I have picked this as a project as I thought it would be the most useful as it will give me an idea of the jobs available to me, and what subjects I will need to pick for A level should I wish to stay on. The careers project I believe will benefit me more than any other project I could have picked. It will give me an idea of the type of job I would be interested in, and I may well decide on a job I would like after working for this project. 2. Where am I now? I have not really thought about possible careers that would interest me. I have considered being some sort of engineer but I have no idea what this evolves. I need to look into more job possibilities and what levels of education I would need to need to do that job. I will need to research what exactly the job details me to do, and compare that to what I would like to do. 3. What I hope to achieve: I will have to write up a self analysis and think about my strengths and weaknesses and my personality. I will analyse my recent test results and see which subjects I am good at and which I should not think about doing for A level. I will use a program called Pathfinder and see which jobs I am suited to, which it will automatically generate after I answer some questions. I will also need to look up information for four types of jobs

Work Experience assignment Introduction At the beginning of Year 10 all year 10 students were told that we were going to start work experience in May next year. As the weeks went on it got closer to work experience. I felt increasingly nervous; this is because I have no experience of working with a company. In January we were given the work experience forms. In the form we hade to choose what type of work we were going to do and what sort of job title we would like to do, e.g. Retail assistant at Currys, laboratory assistant at a university. I chose to do retail assistant at a computer/ electrical superstore. The reason why I chose retail assistant was at a computer/electrical superstore was that I have a wide knowledge on the products they sell, and I am very much into it. As it was getting closer to work experience, I was getting very anxious. As April came, we were going to be told our results. During our French lesson other students from the same year as us showed us their results. Some people did not get a job and were disappointed. Our class was beginning stressed out because our work experience placement results form was not here yet. Around half an hour into the lesson, our head of year came into the class with the work experience forms. Unfortunately, she had some purple sheets in her hand. That meant that some students did not get a work placement. When the

Work Experience For my work experience I went to Beneficial Finance, This Company offers loans at a higher rate than normal banks so less fortunate people who are rejected a loan from their bank could go to Beneficial Finance. I didn't choose to go to Beneficial Finance, I were looking at working in a garage but there weren't many placements for garages therefore I were chosen to work at Beneficial Finance. When I first found out where I were working I were rather disappointed that I didn't get one of the garage placements although the placement I were given was a challenge, I were looking forward to working at Beneficial Finance. On the first day of work experience I woke up early to be sure I wouldn't turn up late, I took a lot of time getting dressed to make sure I looked smart to give a good first impression towards the manager and the employees. I was rather impressed with my appearance when I set off on my first day to work experience. To get to my workplace I used public transport, only needing one journey as the workplace was only two to three mile away from my home. The placement was in the city centre therefore it was busy. On my way to the placement I were feeling more mature although I were a bit nervous. I arrived in city centre thirty minutes before I started work so I went for a walk to calm my nerves. Time went really slow, but ten minutes before my work

Conquering the mountain.

Conquering the mountain The pale pearly light of pre-dawn was spreading across the sky above the mountain. The early morning silence was shattered by the bustle of campers getting ready. I drew a sharp breath of air. As I peered outside my tent, the forest around the camping ground came to life. Birds started chirping and a morning breeze blew past, sending shivers down my spine. There were three other groups hiking together with us on this climb. Waking my friends up, I headed to prepare breakfast for everyone. As our group had trekked together a few times before, we were in tune with one another and worked well together. This was very crucial in any climbs. The slopes were quite steep at the beginning and therefore the not-so-well-trained people got tired out quite fast. The native guides who brought almost everything were also having problems now. It is not an easy task to carry a 30kg load while having to balance yourself making sure you do not slip. Having the most experience in trekking, our group was ahead of the rest. Wet from an earlier drizzle, the slopes were quite slippery and failure to get a firm foothold could result in a nasty fall. There were some ropes secured at vital parts of the journey to help people pull themselves upwards. Just as we were getting the hang of it, there came another problem - altitude problem. Some felt breathless, others
