Careers Project

Phase 1 Planning Aims: . Project Choice: I am going to write my project on careers. I have picked this as a project as I thought it would be the most useful as it will give me an idea of the jobs available to me, and what subjects I will need to pick for A level should I wish to stay on. The careers project I believe will benefit me more than any other project I could have picked. It will give me an idea of the type of job I would be interested in, and I may well decide on a job I would like after working for this project. 2. Where am I now? I have not really thought about possible careers that would interest me. I have considered being some sort of engineer but I have no idea what this evolves. I need to look into more job possibilities and what levels of education I would need to need to do that job. I will need to research what exactly the job details me to do, and compare that to what I would like to do. 3. What I hope to achieve: I will have to write up a self analysis and think about my strengths and weaknesses and my personality. I will analyse my recent test results and see which subjects I am good at and which I should not think about doing for A level. I will use a program called Pathfinder and see which jobs I am suited to, which it will automatically generate after I answer some questions. I will also need to look up information for four types of jobs

English Coursework - Work Experience I didn't choose what my work placement was to be. I turned up at Miss Franklin's office nervously hoping that I would get a good placement. She sat me down and looked through some documents. She pulled a wad out and told me that she had found a convenient work placement. She showed me the letters, and the title was BUPA Hospital, Marketing Department, Bushey. The first thought that sprang into my head was, how tedious. Then I took some time to think about the ups and downs of it. I do live in Bushey and it is not even five minutes drive from my house. Also my business studies coursework is about marketing so I might gain some useful knowledge that would help me with that. Miss Franklin had gone to a great deal of trouble arranging the placement for me so I did not turn it down. I thought the format was that she had organised the placement just for me as my preference had been for experience in office work. I did not realise that I had the option to change what she had offered me. I found out later that three of my friends had been offered this placement before it was offered to me. Miss Franklin gave me a long important-looking form to fill out and told me that I would need to take in my passport and other proof of identification. This worried me at first; then I found out it was just because BUPA is a private hospital and

Citizenship: Work Experience

Citizenship Course work: Work Experience at Solicitor's office Chapter 1: Planning For my work experience I was given my work experience placement in a Solicitor's office, the solicitor's offices name being 'Hackman & Co Solicitors'. This took place from the 15th of May 2006 to 26th of May 2006. I was not given a specific position there but my work evolved me helping doing filing, photocopying, making documents on the computer and overall doing odd jobs around the offices of 'Hackman & Co Solicitors'. Before I had gone on to work experience I had to arrange an interview with the company. This required me to arrange an interview with the employer. My interview took place a week before the week we started the work experience. As this was the first time I had ever started work experience it gave me responsibility as I was becoming a good citizen, to become a good citizen there are 4 necessities which citizenship involves: . Awareness of the structures that influence your life - like politics, society and the economy. 2. Social and moral responsibility - knowing your civic rights and duties and having a respect for diversity in society. 3. Political literacy - having a respect for democracy and understanding the importance of being active in the democratic process. 4. Community involvement - active participation in your school, neighbourhood and beyond. I am trying

The company that I worked in was a video shop. It was a small business but had hundreds of customers. It specializes in DVD's, Video's and Games. It had around 3000 movies and games in stock

Action Plan Feb I looked through the placements which I could get and the placements which I still needed a reply from. I sent another letter off to a police station (queens road). I received a letter which told me that I had to me that if I wanted an interview I had to phone up to confirm it the interview was with the police for 1 week I had to wait a month for my interview. Mar I went for my interview at the police station. I dressed formally and I was there on time. I received a letter which unfortunately stated due to a high number of people who applied for a placement only a few got through and I was not one of them. Apr Received a phone call stating that there was a placement at a video shop. I decided to take it as I enjoyed movies and I wanted to know how the film industry worked. This citizen issues I plan to investigate are Health & Safety. I plan to investigate these issues because health & safety is a major part of work life, employees want to know that the environment that there working in, is safe and that it takes all the health and safety precautions that are necessary. I have listed some below: Fire extinguishers. Smoke detectors. Health and safety rules . Fire exits (fire drills/ signs which let you know where the nearest exits are). Appropriate uniform (e.g. if working in a construction site you will need helmets, boots, goggles, reflective

Work Experience.

Work Experience The day had finally arrived. The teachers have been telling us to get ready and start worrying about the whole thing but to tell you the truth, I didn't think the day would ever arrive. Kind of like exams. You know that you're going to have to take them eventually but they're just so far away, it feels like you're going to die before they ever arrive. Now, to the topic at hand... It was the beginning of a whole new experience. Work Experience. Sounds dreadful, doesn't it? That's because it was dreadful...in my experience. I had two whole weeks to gain some skill. Think that's easy? Think again. It was as interesting as watching faeces dry out and turn white. Not as smelly though...but just as messy. The dreaded workplace was located in Angel, Islington so it took some time to get there. Travelled by train. Two trains, to be exact. I got up at around six in the morning, which was a whole new thing. Morning smells different. It smells fresh...almost soothing...but at the time I could not give a monkey about it all. I was too busy slapping my face to keep me awake. If this is what I have to look forward to in the future, you can forget it. Me? Getting out of bed earlier than God himself? Please. There would have to be a snowstorm in Hell for that. Alas, I had to do that for two weeks. The pain, the pain! I travelled with my brother Stef. We took the car to

The First Time I've Ever Worked

The First Time I've Ever Worked It really hit me about half way through December, I suddenly realised I still didn't have anywhere to go. I had already applied to the European Union in Strasbourg as a translator, but they could only have people over eighteen. I was shocked to find out they were not going to make an exception for someone as talented and clever as me. So I really had to find somewhere quick! I thought about going to the vets but I am tragically disabled with asthma. I also thought about going to work at the Road Research Laboratory, but I decided I wanted to work somewhere in France, so that I could get my exceptionally good French even better. I asked my parents if I could go to the school near Saubion on the Spanish border, where I had been for the last half of my six month exchange. But they were not prepared to drive that far (2000 miles trip) just for a week. That left the other school in Orléans where I stayed for the first half of my six month exchange. The next day I asked Mr. Burnett if that would be possible. He said that I would have to ring up and ask. That night I telephoned the school. It was the first time I had spoken French to a French person in over six months, so you can imagine I was a little rusty. When they answered I was greeted by a high pitched voice on the other end. I told them who I was and what I wanted to do. The woman on the

My work experience was at Carlin Motorsport a F3 racing car team

Citizenship Work experience comes from topic 1 in the citizenship syllabus. This part of the syllabus covers school, work and the community. I chose work experience as it covers the points necessary for the syllabus. The parts of the syllabus were covered as we firstly planned the experience at school, and this would then lead us to work in the community. During Year 10 in the autumn term (2004) our Monday tutorial sessions were used to get us prepared for our work experience. In one of the lesson we had a visit from Mrs Penning of Connexions who told us what we'd get from our work experience. This was important because we looked at the different jobs on offer, what options would suit us and what employers look for in us. We also had talk in several assemblies about how it was important to be organised for our work experience. Which encouraged me to make enquires about my placement. We also had a database available to us with which we could search for suitable jobs. This was important for those who were looking for ideas about the kind of placement that they wanted. In the spring term we had mock interviews for our placement when an interviewer came into school and interviewed us. This was a useful experience as we will have to take part in interviews when applying for the job. Citizenship - Work experience Dates November 25 Job centre placement information in the
