GLOBAL WARMING Global warming is the effect of greenhouse gases on the earth. Greenhouse gases are the emissions that rise into the atmosphere and trap the sun's energy, keeping the heat from escaping. Because of the global warming, the air temperature near the earth's surface rose by 0.9ºC during the last 100 years. This causes the sea levels to rise, increase the intensity of extreme weather events and increases the amount of acid rain. As a result of these newly formed conditions, unprecedented natural disasters and damages the natural life such as agricultural yields, species, extinctions and the range of disease vectors arise. While these are occurring, people are trying to defend their future both socially

Portfolio Assignment #1 Improvement and use of electric cars, and its affect on the environment Area of Impact: 3.5 Science and Environment October 14, 2010 Word Count: 1000 Presentation of the issue: As technology improves, more electric cars are being used in today's society. Electric cars that recharge off the coal power grid are one type of electric cars that will be used more frequently in the future. Electric cars are supposed to reduce the amount of city pollution by having no emissions of any carbon dioxide or any other harmful particles, but studies have shown that burning coal for electricity can be just as harmful to the environment as using gasoline cars. New electric cars are invented to keep up with the vast increase in technology, resulting in an issue regarding equality of access. The new electric cars that are being manufactured can have a higher price tag, due to the input of the newest technology; therefore not all individuals would be able to afford this type of car. Another issue would be regarding reliability. 1In order to run an electric car, it needs to be charged 10-12 hours to fully charge the vehicle, because of the electric car's large need of time to be charged, efficiency and reliability problems can arise. Users may not be to use the car whenever they want and they may not be able to use it for as long as they want. Also, the

Determine the presence of reducing sugar, protein and starch in the food products by using Benedict test, Biuret test and Iodine test,

Chapter 1 – Chemistry of Life Determining the Presence of Certain Nutrients Kieun Bae, DP2 - Biology HL Introduction The idea of this experiment was to plan the diet for a day and determine if the diet plan contains the necessary nutrients, by testing the food products with chemicals. In this way, we would have better idea about what kind of food product should be included in the daily diet. The meal-plan of the day we have made was following: . Breakfast . milk 2. cereal . Lunch . bread 2. juice 3. cheese 4. apple . Dinner . pasta 2. lattice 3. meat 4. tomato 5. yogurt 6. red wine 7. onion This was planned by discussing the actual food products we commonly take in a day. There are few diary products that are commonly known to contain a lot of protein, necessary carbohydrates for each meal (bread, pasta and cereal) as well as the vegetables that contain many various healthy nutrients including glucose (simple sugar), vitamins, minerals etc. Also, there is meat that is supposed to contain some fatty substances and protein. The essential nutrients that we need daily for our body to function properly are mainly six. They are water, carbohydrates (glucose, starch, sucrose etc.), proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.[1] In the lab, we are going to find out the presence of different nutrients and decide whether the planned list of daily diet food products

Why is alcohol considered to be a serious problem? As many 33,000 people in the UK die from alcohol related causes each year- thats ten times as many people that die on the roads

Alcohol Should alcohol be prohibited? Why is alcohol considered to be a serious problem? As many 33,000 people in the UK die from alcohol related causes each year- that's ten times as many people that die on the roads every year. I believe this information should be presented to children at a young age (year five) to reduce the amount of alcohol related illnesses, such as alcoholic liver disease, in young people. By doing so, children will understand from a young age the health implications of excessive consumption of alcohol, and therefore will be able to make more informed decisions in future regarding alcohol consumption. This means that the number of alcohol related deaths the number of cases of alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour is likely to decline. This should also be presented to my peers as they are in the age that has a major problem in binge drinking this has increased due to a variety of reasons many of these reasons Contents: What is alcohol? ..................................................................................Pg3 Alcohol through history and its portrayal in the media.................
