Gay Marriage Essay
Howard Wang Mr. Hall English April 3rd, 2009 Gay Marriage Essay A widely debated and serious matter in our society is gay marriage. Opinions on gay marriage vary so much that some countries such as Greenland have gay marriage legalized while certain countries such as Somalia have the death penalty for homosexuals. Canada became the fourth country in the world to approve of gay marriage. Although many people at first think that everyone should love and marry whoever they want, most people do not look deep enough into the issue of gay marriage to see the flaws and errors of gay marriage. Gay marriage causes many negative problems and should be illegal. First of all, all major religions are against gay marriage, Christianity the largest religion in the world which also makes up 33% of the world's population, is against gay marriage. According to the Canada 2001 census, 77% of Canadians are Christian. (Population) In Genesis 19: 4-5 god destroyed two entire cities (Sodom and Gomorrah) because they were populated by homosexuals. (Bible) Also in Romans 1:26 the Bible says that man and female relationships are natural while homosexual relationships are unnatural. Spanish Civil War
The Spanish-American War Analyze the causes of U.S participation in the intervention of Cuba in 1898 Jack Tomlinson 3/06/09 IB History of the Americas HL The U.S intervention in Cuba during its revolts against Spain was one of the United States' earlier interventions. At the time of the war with Spain the United States was only a few decades old. Around that period the U.S interventions were increasing in number as the U.S had intervened with the Philippines, Cuba and several others. "This was a curious conflict. Although it added materially to the colonial possessions of the United States, the war of 1898 was not originally a territory-grabbing venture. Although it yielded results which pleased businessmen, it was not at first desired by business leaders. And though victory over Spain would help William McKinley win re-election, the President long delayed asking Congress for a declaration of hostilities. (Bethell, 435)" The United States' decision to intervene in the Cuban Revolts with Spain (thus leading to war with Spain in 1898) was due to several reasons such as the U.S citizens support for Cuban independence and the arguments made by U.S President McKinley to Congress. One of the major causes as to why U.S decided to go to war with Spain was the U.S publics' jingoism. "After five centuries of Spanish rule the residents of the ever faithful isle were clamoring for
Explain why the Holocaust Happened
Explain why the Holocaust happened. Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party in Germany conducted the Holocaust in an effort to exterminate the Jews through the establishment of concentration camps and various murdering methods. Some historians, such as Daniel Goldhagen, maintain the belief that Germans were culturally anti-Jewish and were motivated by anti-Semitism beliefs; thus, this claims Germans supported the mass murder of Jews, allowing the Holocaust to occur. Others, however, hold the "traditional" belief, mainly blaming Nazi ideology and the limited condition that the ordinary Germans were forced to adapt to. In Goldhagen's book, Hitler's Willing Executioners, he asserts his interpretation of the Holocaust by reiterating the fact that a traditional hatred towards the Jews had been present for "decades" (Source B). This was due to traditional attitudes that viewed the Jews as a "destructive force" that resulted from frustrations towards the Jewish involvement in capitalism (Source D). According to Bankier, anti-Semitic attitude was "widespread" and "socially acceptable" (Source D). This exemplifies how the non-Jews did not favor the Jews' influence, especially since they resented the Jews' economic dominance and strong position in the mass media; thus, this widespread resentment towards the Jews resulted in a greater tension, allowing the support for the mass murder of Jews
History Assignment
HISTORY ASSIGNMENT Essay 1 - Assess the results of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05 on the internal as well as external domains of Czarist Russia. The Russo-Japanese War was fought in 1904-05 and had terrible effects on Russia. Russia faced a horrifying unexpected loss which hampered its economy, people, growth, and all thoughts of expansion in the East. The war had far reaching consequences on Russia and on Japan. It led to many events, signing of treaties, change in Russia's foreign policy, and eventually also became one of the major causes leading to the Revolution of 1905. The first major event that occurred after the Russo Japanese War was 'Bloody Sunday'. Occurring on 22nd January 1905, it was the beginning of opposition to tsarist rule, which eventually involved members of the urban workers, armed forces, peasantry and middle classes. Led by Father Gapon, the demonstrators appealed to the Czar to 'tear down the wall between yourself and your people', a reference to the bureaucracy. They also drew up a petition which contained 135,000 signatures. However, the Czar reacted with resistance and ordered the troops to open fire at the peaceful demonstrators, which resulted in a 'blood bath' on the square of the winter Palace. Bloody Sunday sparked a wave of disturbance all over the country. There was an increase in the number of industrial strikes which eventually became

Assess the view that Khrushchevs policies were a failure both at home and abroad between 1955 and 1963.
Edward Grodin Period 2 Assess the view that Khrushchev's policies were a failure both at home and abroad between 1955 and 1963. The era in which Khrushchev ruled was marked by the ascension of Cold War tensions to a level that had not been experienced under Stalin. At the same time, Khrushchev made multiple efforts to appear to work towards a serious "peaceful co-existence." Though many of the events which took place during Khrushchev's leadership brought the world closer to another major war than ever before, Soviet domestic and foreign policy during this time is often regarded as a "thaw" in Cold War tension. By the end of 1955, Nikita Khrushchev had gained control over the Soviet Union, marking a transition not only a change in leadership but also in world perspective. In an effort to bring the Soviet Union to the forefront of the world stage, and progress beyond the influence of the United States, Khrushchev made many policy changes that broke from Stalinist doctrine. Domestically, quelling threats to the solidarity of the Soviet Union became of the highest importance. Also, the policy of de-Stalinization embodied Khrushchev's sentiment that the Soviet Union under his leadership would follow a different path from Stalin. Internationally, Khrushchev tried to make overtures to the West. Khrushchev's efforts to enlarge the Soviet sphere of influence as a
To what extent was the norths win over the south in the American civil war attributed to the moral of their soldiers due to what they believe in?
A. Plan of Investigation: To what extent was the north's win over the south in the American civil war attributed to the moral of their soldiers due to what they believe in? The American civil war started in 1861 and lasted approximately four years until 1865. Many consider this era one of the darkest times in American history. An estimated 700,000 men and women died during this time due to the harsh conditions of war that plagued the soldiers as they fought in what they believed in. But they still had to go out and fight every day no matter what the condition were for what they believed in. With the surrender of the confederate army on April 18, 1865 the northern states were considered the victors of the American civil war. There is much controversy to what extent was the north's win over the south attributed to the moral of their soldiers and what they believed in. Some historians theorize that the north's win was attributed to their economic, social and religious standards that lead their army to great moral in the war. However others theorize that the north's moral of soldiers was actually less than southerners and the win for the north can be attributed to the lack of leadership and strategy in the confederacy. The aim of this investigation is to assess the factors that led to the end of the civil war and the victory of the north. In order to do so the extent of the
An impressive but flawed (imperfect) achievement. Is this a fair assessment of Communist rule in China between 1949 and 1961?
"An impressive but flawed (imperfect) achievement". Is this a fair assessment of Communist rule in China between 1949 and 1961? After the Chinese Civil War; a fierce four-year struggle for supremacy ended with the complete victory of the Communists. Chiang and his Nationalist Party were driven from Mainland China to the offshore island of Taiwan, which was their one remaining stronghold. Consequently in October 1949 Communist leader Mao Zedong triumphantly declared that a new Communist society had come into being, which he claimed to be The People's Republic of China. Between the years of 1949 and 1961 the most demanding task was to bring stability to a nation, which has been riven with turmoil for decades. Mao Zedong's approach consisted of consolidation of the Communist Party by removing any opposition. He attempted to reshape China through a process of modernization, where two five-year plans mimicking the Soviet style regime were followed, encompassed by the Great Leap Forward. Moreover Mao unfolded a process of collectivisation, which eliminated private farming in order to achieve a socialist collectivism. It was these three elements of consolidation, modernization and collectivisation that although impressive at the surface, were deeply flawed in determining the advancements of China. Shortly after his accession to power, Mao announced that the People's Republic of

Angela C. Rosario Mrs. Paz IB History of the Americas I (2) 20 March 2009 Americas Paper III: Results of the Mexican Revolution The Mexican Revolution was a violent political and social upheaval that occurred in the early 20th century. The revolution began in November 1910 as an effort to overthrow the 30-year dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz. It grew into a widespread rebellion that would eventually change the structure of Mexico's economy, government, and society. The fundamental goals of the revolution were incorporated in the 1917 constitution, although widespread factional fighting continued until 1920. It took almost another two decades for many of the reforms contained in the constitution to be implemented. Regardless, the goals of the revolution--particularly the need for an accountable, democratic government and the right of all Mexicans to enjoy a basic standard of living--had a lasting impact on the nation. The revolution produced major changes in Mexico. The old political elite had been largely swept away, to be replaced by a new revolutionary elite. The revolution set in motion a trend toward political centralization, concentrating power in the national government and particularly in the president. The role of the military in politics was substantially reduced by a series of revolutionary presidents, even though all the presidents who served between 1920 and
Historical Character
Activity 2: The 1905 Revolution Option A: Russo-Japanese War June 1, 1905 I could remember it like it was yesterday, disgrace and dishonour still haunt me when I think of those days of tormented defeat. I cannot believe I escaped such a voyage with no harm. I was in Port Arthur with the Pacific Fleet of 27 ships which was commanded by Admiral Z.P. Rozhestvensky. The Russian government decided to link up the Pacific squadron with the Baltic Fleet upon which the combined fleets would overwhelm the Japanese navy. However this did not happen for when Rozhestvensky made for Vladivostok via the Tsushima Strait Admiral Togo Heihachiro's fleet lay in wait for him on the South Korean coast near Pusan. On May 27, as we approached, he attacked. In the course of the two-day battle, two-thirds of the Russian Fleet was sunk, six ships were captured. It was a dramatic and decisive defeat; after a voyage lasting seven months and when within a few hundred miles of its destination, our fleet was shattered, and, with it, Russia's hope of regaining mastery of the sea was crushed. On the night when we were passing through the Tsushima Strait in the back of my mind I knew something was to expire. It was at Port Arthur where we experienced tremendous losses especially of the night of 8 February 1905.I remember it was a quiet and calm night and I had just strolled on to the deck to get some fresh
