A diary entry in French - Dispute avec mon pote

Je me sens triste… Comment faire maintenant?

Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe was most known for his short stories and poems written in romantic and gothic styles. In many of Poe's works, setting is used to paint a dark and gloomy picture in our minds. He was one of the earliest American writers of the short story and is said to be the inventor of the detective-fiction genre. He is also credited with contributing to the start of the science fiction genre. He tried to earn a living off of just his writing, which resulted in a financially difficult life and career, not to mention the troubled beginning he had. Poe's life influenced his writing in a big way. He often wrote about death and the effects of decomposition and premature burial. Another recurring theme in Poe's writing is the "death of a beautiful woman", like in the poem Annabel Lee. Biographers and critics suggest that this comes from the repeated loss of women throughout his life. Many of his relatives died of tuberculosis, including the love of his life, his wife Virginia Clemm. It is said that after she died, he was never able to function properly and became increasingly unstable, until his own mysterious death two years later. I think that this was done deliberately by Poe so that the reader can make a connection between darkness and death. For example, in the Pit and the Pendulum, the setting is originally pitch black. As the story unfolds, we see how the setting

The Holocaust

Genocide in Germany 1933 - 1945 Debra Wei Block B The genocide began in 1933, eliminating all Jews, Jehovah's witnesses, homosexuals, and other "harmful beings to the rise of Germany". Though many were targeted, Jews were the majority. It was entirely initiated by Adolf Hitler, who was first elected as chancellor of Germany, and then later assumed the dictator position. The reasons were that he believed the Jews were lowering the economical status of Germany, and that they were the reason why Germany suffered a terrible loss from World War I. I believe the occurrence of this genocide is due to three chief reasons. The Jewish's mistake for not escaping while they still had opportunities, the people who carried out Hitler's tasks, and the other large religions who chose not to help. I imagine that if these three mistakes were corrected during the war, the genocide would have hardly gotten far or even gotten anywhere at all. A large portion of the cause behind the genocide is due to the primary people who obeyed Hitler, the Schutzstaffel officers. These people were in charge of keeping order during the process of murdering the Jews, giving them most of the power to execute Hitler's tactics. Though it was Hitler himself who conducted his own project, the events would have resulted differently if these men had chosen not to participate, as a man cannot accomplish much

How about the family? Do you believe that the use of apples has religious significance? Why or why not? The novella "Metamorphosis" tells the story of Gregor Samsa following his transformation into an insect. This essay is about the events that follow Gregor's injury, caused by the wrath of his father, when he gets an apple stuck in his back, as well as the significance of this act. The metamorphosis in this instant is the change of attitudes that exclude Gregor from the rest of his family. Gregor becomes an outcast when he is transformed into an insect. His own family is unable to communicate with him or identify with him. While he had previously been counted on to provide for his family, Gregor becomes a burden on his family. Instead of seeing Gregor as a son, his father feels that Gregor is a parasite in his house because he cannot contribute to the family. He is treated with digust by his family. Lady Macbeth

Macbeth: Lady MacBeth Lady MacBeth is one of Shakespeare's greatest and most intriguing female characters. She is evil, seductive, and witch-like all at the same time. However, during the play we see her in two different ways. At the time when we first meet her, she is a brutally violent, power wanting witch, and later on she turns to a shameful suicidal grieving woman. At the beginning of the MacBeth, Lady MacBeth is very savage and vicious. She thinks nothing of killing King Duncan. She has no sense of what is wrong and right, and believes that it is perfectly moral to do the deed of murder. She states that to not go through with the deed would be horrible to yourself, and that you would be a coward in your own eyes. "Wouldst thou have that which thou esteem'st the ornament of life, and live a coward in thine own esteem," She states that if she was MacBeth and did not jump at this perfect opportunity, that if a child, being fed at her breast, where as Duncan is, king, she would tear it from her and "dash'd the brains out" to have the opportunity MacBeth does. This shows how mad and sadistic she was. She had absolutely no self- conscience, and thought nothing about the wrong they were soon to commit. Later on, after the murders, she, unlike MacBeth, still shows no signs of a conscience. She is very cool and collected, while MacBeth
