Proyecto Personal - Anorexia y Bulimia

From the book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, how does Pips first day in London apear in his mind.

IOC 1 Great Expectations Pips first day in London This passage is from the second part of the book "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. This is the part at which Pip has arrived in London and is on his way to go and see Jagers. His is told to wait as Jagers in a court meeting and when he mentions that he wishes to go out to have a look is suggested to go onto Smithfield. This extract then goes on to describe in depth the first, yet lasting, thoughts that Pip gets of London and the experiences that add to this image that is created. It is a very descriptive extract that is both narrative at the same time. The first impressions that we read about London from Pip are extremely powerful describing words that portray a negative image of London. He uses words such as 'shameful place', ' all asmear with filth and fat and blood and foam." This creates a very dirty image in my mind of London and how he sees it. Also the repetitive usage of 'and' creates emphasis on the fact that London is extremely unclean and polluted. This is significant as you can compare it to his village of Kent where he comes from. This showed me how he has changed in his opinion of London from what he dreamed about. He thought that London was a place of beauty but rather he comes and on his first day encounters such filthy settings and places. This just shows how he may slowly be gaining an appreciation

What are the effects of the attacks that caused Facebook to be degraded and a black-out on Twitter for two hours?

International Baccalaureate Information Technology in a Global Society Portfolio (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8190786.stm) What are the effects of the attacks that caused Facebook to be degraded and a black-out on Twitter for two hours? (Politics and government) August,, 2009 Tran Thai Bao Khanh The British International School Vietnam News Item: BBC News, 2009, Web attack blogger blames Russia, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8190786.stm [August 2009] A. PRESENTATION OF THE ISSUE The article "Web attack Blogger Blames Russia" on BBC website attracted my attention to an attack of an activist Georgy, whose nickname was Cyxymu, to sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google. However, Cyxymu claimed that he was aimed at the attack not the one that was attacking, and Russia was behind all this as the government did not want the public to know what they did to Georgian people, since the blogger just wrote the truth about the Russian-Georgian war, which started a year ago, and all the sites where he had his blogs and videos posted on were "attacked" (Twitter, Facebook, Live Journal, and Google). The experts identified the attack as the Denial of Service (Dos), which tended to stopped all the operation of the websites that Cyxymu was trying to access. The attack had forced all the big websites to shut down or degraded, which leads to serious

Commentary on February the 17th

Krithika Narayan Commentary - February 17th The poem 'February 17th' written by Ted Hughes describes a premature lamb being born dead. It is extremely graphic and its vivid imagery is extremely grotesque, gripping the reader completely. The tone is tense and the poem induces a reaction of disgust and fear from the reader. It also shows a shockingly real image of what birth can be like. The poet uses various literary devices throughout the poem to bring out the graphic images and construct a feeling of dread in the reader's mind. The poet explores the theme of the harsh side of nature and birth, and how new beginnings can go wrong with fatal consequences. The pain of the mother is described vividly. For instance, in the line 'So I kneeled wrestling with her groans' he shows us how painful her labour is with a very auditory sense. The last line 'The body lay born, beside the hacked-off head' is the end of her physical labour and pain, but the beginning of her mental pain. The fruit of her labour is a mutilated body of her child. Only two lines earlier he talks about the 'Parcel of life', and the juxtaposition of the two highlight the contrast between nature's wonders and her cruelty. The short line lays emphasis on the phrase, increasing the impact of the last line. The poet also explores the relationship between nature and man. Most of his poems focus on the insignificance

Exfoliation for NVQ level 2 beauty

Task 3 - Exfoliants i) Which can be used ii) How to use them iii) Benefits and effects iv) Ingredients v) Examples vi) Appendices vii) Bibliography i) Which can be used and on what skin type? Before we can answer which should be used on a specific skin type, we need to first briefly cover the different types of exfoliants and exfoliating techniques that are available. Firstly there is mechanical exfoliation. This involves 'sloughing' off the dead skin cells of the Stratum Corneum and Stratum disjunctivum, using either a tool (e.g. a brush or a sponge etc...) or a substrate such as oatmeal or rice. Results will depend largely on what type of abrasive is used, and how much pressure is applied during exfoliation. The International Dermal Institute1 recommends that you avoid abrasives which can cause irritation i.e. crushed fruit stones or shells. These may actually be damaging layers further down in the epidermis, and irritation could lead to premature ageing2. Secondly we have chemical exfoliants. These include natural acids (or fruit enzymes) i.e. Papain (from green papayas) and Bromelain (from Pineapple), Hydroxy acids (often referred to as AHA [alpha hydroxyl acids] or BHA's [Beta Hydroxy Acids] and enzymes from bacillus ferment, a bacteria produced enzyme that aids digestion of the protein Keratin and speeds up the cell renewal rate. These chemical

E-Commerce and Fraud

E-commerce, or electronic commerce, can include any type of transaction which requires electronic transmission of data. Fraud, in this respect, can include the most obvious type being online transactions, as well as a far range of other activities from the swiping of a stolen credit card at a grocery store to the electronic embezzlement of money by an employee within a company. E-commerce fraud is different than that of other specific industries or situations. It encompasses such a large span of industries, activities, and data types; it is a relatively new concern since the internet has become prominent In most households only within the past 15 years resulting in lack of education and security concerns for many users especially since verification of identity is difficult without face to face encounters. As with many types of fraud, E-commerce fraud targets the consumer as its primary victim, leaving many individuals at risk. Fraud may occur within organizations as well as outside organizations; it can be perpetrated by a business, a consumer, or a person posing as someone they are not. Within an organization, management or employees can perpetrate a fraud. Since they are inside of the company, they have the advantage of being inside the company's computer network, meaning they do not have to get through external security to access information. This type of fraud

Oodgeroo Essay

Oodgeroo of the Noonuccal's poems The Dawn is at hand and We are Going provides contrasting perspectives on contemporary Aboriginal society. The tone in these poems is significant in allowing the reader to distinguish the perspectives. Oodgeroo expresses the tone in The Dawn is at Hand and We are Going by employing emotive writing, imagery, diverse language choices and metaphorical writing. Therefore it is important to explore how Oodgeroo manipulates these literary devices to signify the tone of her poems. Oodgeroo utilises emotive writing, focusing on the emotions of sorrow and hope, to dominate both her poems, We are Going and The Dawn is at Hand. Oodgeroo approaches emotive writing by using repetition and rhythm to exemplify the tone and therefore the contrasting emotions of the two poems. The last three lines of We are Going were short and sharp, "The bora ring is gone. The corroboree is gone. And we are going." The simple yet incisive last lines of the poem along with the repetition of the word "gone" were the core of the poem. Audiences with absence of knowledge about the history of the Aboriginal society and also the contrary audiences were able to feel the emotions of sorrow and anger that Oodgeroo created. Oodgeroo created this emotion by explaining that the most important and sacred assets of the Aboriginal community, the "bora ring" and "corroboree" were now

Dynamics in Dido and Aeneas

Explore Purcell's use of dynamics in Act I of Dido and Aeneas. Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, an early opera composed in 1680. In Act I of the opera, Dido and Aeneas meet, leading to their immediate love for on another, which they are unable to pursue when the witches, who hate Dido, plan to ruin her fate. The atmosphere and emotions in the first Act are portrayed successfully, with the dynamics playing a major role in helping create the desired setting. Purcell's use of dynamics in Act I is never consistent; in some pieces he uses many dynamic markings, with nothing left to the will of the conductor, however, in other pieces, Purcell tends to leave out dynamic markings. It is possible that these may have been lost over the years due to the music being transcribed several times, although it is unlikely that so many dynamic markings have been left out. In general, the most common dynamic markings used are piano, forte and crescendos. The use of the dynamic markings mezzo piano or forte, as well as fortissimo and pianissimo, are uncommon in Act I of Dido and Aeneas. An example of a song in which Purcell uses many dynamic markings would be the No. 11 Chorus, in which Purcell uses dynamic throughout the piece, leaving little to the conductors interpretation. The piece starts in 'forte', which echoes what is going on in at the time, as Aeneas is about to pursue his love for Dido. All

Okonkwo tends to speak in a briskly manner to those with significantly less achievements than him and also dismisses them as insignificant. He is quick to retaliate against men who are weak and lazy, this is witnessed at several times when he beats his son particularly.
