Portfolio Assignment #3 Loss of employment and privacy issues regarding the rise of online grocery shopping Area of Impact: 3.1 Business and employment October 14, 2010 Word Count: 987 http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/jul/07/amazon-groceries-ocado-flotation Presentation of the Issue: Recently, 1Amazon launched a grocery division online, including 22,000 different products ranging from Kraft, Nestle, Pampers and many other brands. The idea of online grocery shopping is becoming a well-liked form of technology and customers are realizing the benefits it can provide. Some advantages of grocery shopping online would be the great amount of convenience it would provide for busy parents, flexibility of grocery shopping times, the ability to get specialty products that local grocery stores may not have and it can help the shopper be aware of the subtotal by simply checking the list of foods that have been picked. With advantages, come disadvantages. Security and privacy issues arise when ordering the grocery goods online, because personal information like name, address and credit card numbers are given away. Another downside is that vendors might not be reliable with the orders customers make. Although many individuals and households have access to Internet, not everyone does. Seniors who have troubles with mobility might not be able to use this form of technology

Can the work of architect Le Corbusier be explored in the context of the Design Cycle Model and was it reflected in his modernist approach to architecture?

Introduction Le Corbusier was a well known Swiss-French architect in the early to mid 20th century who helped lead the modern architectural revolution and influenced the direction that architecture and urbanism took. This essay will explore and investigate the question; Can the work of architect Le Corbusier be explored in the context of the Design Cycle Model and was it reflected in his modernist approach to architecture? This topic is worthy of study as there are no books which examine the inter-relationship between the Design Cycle Model (DCM) and the work of Le Corbusier. This essay will present this new perspective of architecture and focus on Le Corbusier’s modernist approach to design. From a personal perspective the subject is worthy of exploration because of a deep interest in the areas of design technology, architecture and in particular a keen interest in Le Corbusier. Background The DCM is an important aspect of design technology in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and is examined and discussed in Topic 1: Design Process. There are six stages in the Design Cycle Model, these are: . Identifying a need or opportunity 2. Research and specification 3. Generating ideas 4. Developing ideas 5. Realisation of ideas 6. Evaluation, (International Baccalaureate Organization p. 45, 2007) The DCM diagram (International Baccalaureate Organization 2007, p. 46)

A truly loving God would never allow the suffering of innocents and an omnipotent God would be able to prevent such suffering. Can the God of Christian theism be defended against such a charge?

“A truly loving God would never allow the suffering of innocents and an omnipotent God would be able to prevent such suffering”. Can the God of Christian theism be defended against such a charge? The problem of evil involves the problem that if God is omnipotent and omni-benevolent, how is it possible that evil exists? If one is able and willing to give up one of these apparent characteristics of God, His omnipotence or omni-benevolence, one can then argue that God is either not able to prevent evil or He does not wish to do so. Therefore He is capricious. However, none of these answers are in line with the traditional Christian view of God, for He is said to possess both of the above characteristics. In answer to the question, I would say it is possible to defend the God of Christian theism against such a charge in the case of moral evil, but instances of natural evil are more difficult to account for. I shall refer to the Augustinian theodicy and the Free Will defence in order to come to my conclusion on this charge. The Augustinian theodicy, derived from St Augustine, suggests that since God is the creator and He is wholly good, he cannot be responsible for the existence of evil in the world. Evil, in fact, does not exist as a separate substance: it is rather an absence of good – just as blindness is the absence of sight. This absence arises through the actions of

Creative, Active, and Service Hours: The Ultimate Ultimatum Eric Migicovsky D-0277-093 April 13, 2004 Block A The extraordinarily important Creative, Action and Service volunteer component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme has forever ameliorated my personal experience of life. Prior to my inauguration into the glamorous field of the International Student, I rarely participated at all in school or community based activities. On a normal basis, my sole pursuits comprised of sports, such as soccer and ultimate and/or clubs at my erstwhile locale of lofty learning, the High School of Kitsilano. I entered the Creative, Active and Service environment empty-headed, and open-minded, ready to embrace the wonderful challenges that it would bestow upon my ever-deserving psyche hungering for personal growth and enrichment. My personal goals for the Creative, Active, and service increasingly important component were basically to disintegrate those preconceived boundaries I held that blocked me from participating in school activities, and instead, to integrate into the school environment and participate heavily in everything to which my involvement would be of benefit. I believe that through the activities, clubs and teams, the involvement in which I will detail in the coming paragraphs, I have clearly enriched my life, and helped enrich the lives of others,

'"Ivan Denisovich" despite its subject matter is in the final instance, a celebration of the human spirit in the face of extreme adversity' Discuss Solzhenitsyn's "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" portrays literally one day of the life of a Russian prisoner in a concentration camp. Conditions there are harsh and horrendous, no matter in shelter, clothing, or food. However, it is evident that despite all this, the novel is in the long run a celebration of the human spirit, as many virtues are manifested. First and foremost, the prisoners have ingenuity. Shukhov, the protagonist, is a typical example. When building the wall, he often organizes the bricks mentally, "visualized the shape of block needed", and "divided the wall mentally to where he'll lay blocks". In doing so, he acquires his wall building skills, we see this through use of the declarative short sentence "Shukhov made no mistakes". In describing frost on the windows, Solzhenitsyn uses a specific measure word, "two "fingers" thick. This shows how the prisoners, though denied access to their own tools, are able to adapt and use their own ways to survive, using fingers instead of a ruler to measure frost. Some prisoners are also diligent and responsible. In the morning, "Shukhov never overslept réveille", and he would often be "offering to be of service". These two lines emphasize Shukhov's

ITGS Portfolio 1

Portfolio 1 Criterion A [1]As of 2002, there were 590 million passenger cars worldwide (roughly one car per eleven people) ["Emission Facts", date unknown], [2] all emitting 11,450 lbs (5 tons) of carbon dioxide, along with smaller amounts of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen all polluting the air and the environment ["Our Ailing Communities", date unknown]. If one car is producing that amount, then if it's multiplied by 590 million cars around the world, about 2950 million tons of harmful gases causing air pollution and increasing the size of the Ozone layer. Automobile companies started producing green automobiles that are "environment friendly". This type of automobiles is more efficient, consequently less polluting. Car makers are also working on developing an alternative fuel that does not depend on petrol. [3] About 75% of today's cars are recyclable, and using recycled steel, and this lessens energy consuming and pollution ["Automobiles and the Environment", date unknown]. However, reducing pollution is not the only reason behind making these types of cars. Companies are racing to own green car projects because high fuel taxes, only gave customers two choices, either to purchase lighter, smaller, more fuel-efficient cars, or to not drive. Criterion B Researches proved that the carbon produced by cars these days is a main factor in increasing the size of

In this essay, the effect of the intensity of external light on the rate of photosynthesis is carried out and investigated through a series of experiments. Firstly, the Pygmy Chain Sword plant was placed in normal sunshine, with a light intensity of 2.62 lux, and the rate of photosynthesis was monitored (measured by the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water) for one day to see how much dissolved oxygen was produced in normal conditions of light intensities. Then, the plant was exposed to
