„Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of reason as a way of knowing.”

Reason is a very important way of knowing that involves different elements. In general reasoning is central to much of human intellectual activity, collective proof by which people try to construct meaning together by exchanging, modifying and improving their ideas and opinions.1 The main situation we use reasoning is when we make a claim to know - it is obvious to ask for reasons and to expect that these will be cohesive, arguments require it. Nowadays we can see  reason present in everyday decision making, dealing with problems and difficult situations and problem solving as it is in mathematics, sciences and other areas of knowledge. Increasingly logical thinking in our live is required and helpful (because is reliable) and make us sure for our right because of supporting on next elements which occurred in out reasoning process.

In consider that in different degrees and different ways we can see that reason has its place in many, if think that even all, areas of knowledge. As young people we often face need of reasoning in the everyday experience of individuals and the groups to which we belong. It may be worth considering how helpful and effective is reason  in these different domains – we can see many weaknesses and strengths of reason when we want to do different things - to discover and create, to articulate, to justify and assess knowledge claims. There is usually need not only to show the essences or facts of the matter, but also the appropriateness of the reasons given for acceptance of the facts.1  The validity of the logical  thinking is used in reaching the proper conclusion but it is not always inevitable.

In my opinion reason has no weaknesses as a “way of knowing” when we compare it to lack of reason  while we are attempting to “know”. There I mean “knowing” as opposite to “faith”. The antithesis of reason according to theologians is actually "faith."2  Therefore the best strength of reason is that it is not mystic. Reason is the one means of knowing. It can “definite” knowledge (mysticism cannot). Reason is unerring, It is the only method to attempt that we know. Faith and reason have each been considered to be sources of justification for belief. One of thinker Locke emphasizes the reasonableness of faith to such an extent that a religious doctrine’s irrationality—conflict with itself or with known facts—is a sign that it is unsound.3 This way of thinking make that we can rely on our cognitive powers to decide which statement, conclusion is valid. Mysticism cannot do that and this is the biggest strength of reason.

Reason attempts to discover what is true make that this way of thinking is characterized by logic and analysis that will deliver us almost undoubtful results. I argue that reason is the only form of knowledge that justifies it's own existence. Logical thinking by e.g. inductive and deductive reasoning, reduce an absurdum and shows the flaw in using purely logical arguments. Reason than gives us an ability to assist people in deciding what is true and what is not. It gives us real truth about world, life, so I think that we would suffer more from losing reason than from ...
