Vishet

THE CATALYTIC DECOMPOSITION OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

Chemistry Internal Assessment: THE CATALYTIC DECOMPOSITION OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE Introduction: For this internal assessment, I will be looking into the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. I will be conducting an experiment to show how the mass of catalyst used affects the rate at which hydrogen peroxide decomposes. My research question will be, "How does the mass of Manganese (V) Oxide used affect the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. A catalyst is a substance which alters the rate of a chemical reaction but is chemically unchanged at the end of the reaction. This means that the amount of catalyst at the start and the end of the reaction will remain constant. Catalysts alter the rate of a chemical reaction and this is the reason why I have chosen to conduct an experiment to find out to what extent a catalyst could affect the rate of a chemical reaction. Aim: To investigate how the mass of catalyst (manganese (V) oxide) used affects the speed of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, H2O2. Hypothesis: My hypothesis for this experiment is that the more catalyst I used, the faster the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide. This is because catalysts help to overcome activation energy and the more catalyst used, the more activation energy will be overcome and thus the reaction will be faster. However, I also expected that eventually there would be a point

To what extent did Alexander II succeed reforming Russian life and institutions?

To what extent did Alexander II succeed reforming Russian life and institutions? Tsar Alexander II came to power during the Crimean war in 1855 and ruled Russia until his assassination in 1881. Historians believe that he may have been the "best prepared heir-apparent ever to have ascended the Russian throne" as Alexander II had been heir for most of his boyhood and received a special education preparing him to rule Russia. As well prepared as he may have been he inherited a difficult position from his father, Nicholas I. His nation was isolated in Europe, on the verge of defeat, which made it dangerously weak. In terms of domestic policy, he was left and intact autocracy that repressed all western influenced political thinking and practices. Finally, as Russia's economic and social progress had been extremely limited under Nicholas I, particularly in comparison to the rapidly industrializing western European powers, Alexander II inherited a relatively "backwards" Russia. The new tsar was aware of Russia's weakness and recognized the necessity to introduce reforms to preserve his autocratic system of government. Alexander II is best known for his first reform, the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. There were two large obstacles that he had to overcome before he could complete this reform. Firstly the gentry and nobility were hostile to the destruction of serfdom, they

WHAT DOES CALLING MATHEMATICS LANGUAGE MEANS? DOES MATHEMATICS FUNCTION IN THE SAME WAY AS OUR DAILY WRITTEN AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE? DO MATHEMATICS SYMBOLS HAVE MEANING, IN THE SAME SENSE WORDS HAVE MEANING?

THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE WHAT DOES CALLING MATHEMATICS LANGUAGE MEANS? DOES MATHEMATICS FUNCTION IN THE SAME WAY AS OUR DAILY WRITTEN AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE? DO MATHEMATICS SYMBOLS HAVE MEANING, IN THE SAME SENSE WORDS HAVE MEANING? 2n²-32= 0 2n²= 32 n² =_32 2 n²=16 n² = V16 n = +4 or -4 A maths equation which needs to be simplified down. An average person with a basic knowledge of maths would be able to simplify this equation. To simplify the equation the negative 32 need to be moved to the right hand side and the needs to be divided by the 2 which will leave 16. Then the 16 needs to be square rooted which then we will derive with 4 or -4. The reason for having this equation was to show that without direction on what to do in English words people would be able to solve this equation. This leads us to a question "Is maths a language"? Mathematics is the study of patterns and relationship between numbers and shapes. Symbolic and abstract. One of the way we a argue that maths is abstract is because in English we know the exact hard-coded letters which extent from A-Z whereas Maths, this is a sector of our where it develops and evolves every time. An example for this is "Riemann hypothesis". The hypothesis states that distribution of the zeros of the Riemann zeta-function which states that all non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta functions have real part 1/2. The Riemann

Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel Chapter Analysis

February Settings The chapter opens with the kitchen ("Tita's Realm") as the main setting, but it has a different significance now because there is a direct relationship with the wider society due to "the wedding". The entire novel is set in a time of political instability- The Mexican Revolution. At this time, women began to gain freedom, appreciation and respect from men, allowing them to find a place for themselves. In this chapter, Tita shows initial signs of bringing across immense emotion through her cooking and its products. This is an act of liberation that Mama Elena would not approve of if she knew of the consequences. "White" is constantly repeated throughout this chapter, it shows how the writer makes Tita seem mentally unstable because all she can think about is the wedding, and weddings are mostly all white. She seems mentally unstable because the whiteness of the wedding seems to have blinded Tita because "[Tita] asked if Nacha was going to add the red food color to the icing" when Nacha already did. Character During this overwhelming year of the month, Tita continually thinks of the colour "White" because all she can think about is the marriage between her sister and Pedro (the love of her life) which leads her to become mentally unstable. Mama Elena punishes Tita for "feigning a headache" by conducting and forcing her to make the cake with Chencha

Kill Bill Mixed-Genre Film

Kill Bill Genre Narrative Essay Alec Mackenzie 11-6 In the movie Kill Bill Vol. 2, Quentin Tarantino the writer and director of the movie incorporates a vast array of genres such as Samurai, Hardbody, Kung fu and the Spaghetti Western to form not just an action film - but a mixed-genre film. Through the use of the movie as well as a small segment of a fight scene between Beatrix Kiddo and Elle Driver there is evidence of all four genre's within the movie. These genres can be identified through iconography, themes, narrative structure, cinematography and any other concepts/ideas that are associated with the genres. The samurai genre is portrayed quite strongly in Kill Bill 2. Especially through the iconography associated in the film. One of the strongest icons in Chambara (samurai movies) is the katana, the traditional Japanese warrior sword. Within the small segment the two warriors battle with the katana. The way some shots are set up to see the fighting from the view of the sword or the slow pan against the sword edge with light reflecting off the blade are ways the filmmakers have highlighted the strong iconography and to bring out the dangerous symbolism within it. In terms of narrative structure, Kiddo follows the profile of the "lone samurai". Who in many classic Japanese movies such as "Long Wolf and Cub" is described to be a character on a mission for vengeance,

The Great Depression Notes

Unit 11- The Great Depression 1.1 The Causes of the Great Depression > Trade, Money, Loan, and Internal problems > Protective tariffs (taxes on imported goods) were put in place in order to protect domestic industry, but they were not high enough to obstruct the movement of goods > WW1 changed this because all belligerents (countries participating in war) overproduce, overdevelop their industrial sectors to provide enough goods for war > After the war, to protect the new industries, all countries instilled high tariffs (to keep the industries from going out of business) > 1922 the US began increasing tariffs > 1930- Hawley Smoot Tariff raised the country's tariffs to an all time high - taxes on imported goods was 32%-40% > It became hard to restore trade because the trade links were broken (uneven distribution of currencies) > A lot of European wealth had gone to US because convertible currency (currency accepted by any country) was in short supply > To stimulate trade, US, Britain, and France loaned and invested in poor countries, like Germany > World trade shrank > Allies still owe the US $10 billion from loans from the war > Allies point out that they lost more than the US and requested that the US saw the unpaid $10 billion as a contribution to the Allies > US says no, pay back all of the money plus interest > Germany had to pay $33 billion to the Allies

Economics Commentary - Dollar Hits a New Low, Oil Hits a New High

Economics Commentary - Dollar Hits a New Low, Oil Hits a New High Recently, the global economy has been struck a lot, mainly due to the subprime debt crisis. So far as the foreign exchange market is concerned, many factors have made contributions to the depreciation1 of the U.S. Dollar. The main reason for the sharp depreciation of USD is the unfavorable economy with a sick-into-death credit market that makes domestic and foreign investors disappointed. As it is referred to the article, many economic data released by the US government is quite dark leading people to lose confidence, and have worse expectations towards the US financial market. As a result, people, especially the foreigners, will consider making their investment plan into abeyance and withdrawing the current portfolios2 in the US. Also, those investors will seek to make new investments in the other healthy market such as East Asia and Europe. This will lead to the decrease in the demand of USD and the increase in the supply of USD, since they do not need any more dollars and want to sell the USD in order to purchase other currencies such as Euro. This series of actions contribute to decreasing the exchange rate of USD against other currencies. In this diagram, the demand curve shifts to the left and the supply curve shifts to the right, giving a sharp decrease in the price of USD from p1 to p2. (The quantity
