This essay will attempt to determine why communication is an essential skill to effective leadership. Firstly, there will be an introduction to communication and leadership. Then, there will be a clarification of the importance of communication to leadership. Finally, some conclusions will be drawn, based on the points that the essay has explored.

What is communication? It is the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person to another. It can take many different forms (oral, written, non-verbal body language, electronic media, mass media) and can take place at many different levels (inter-personal, small group, organizational, with internal and external stakeholders and with the general public).

What is leadership? Leadership is process of influencing a group toward the achievement of goals, it is a balancing act, It requires communicating a compelling vision, convincing others to buy into that vision, and marshaling resources and talent to make it happen.
