Sports fans enjoy fights in their sports and they would not be the same without violence. Can you imagine American football or Ice hockey without the odd punch up on the field? How would we get our hockey fix if the players did not get rough every so often? What could our NFL heroes do if they could not be violent, instead of running into each other, would they politely squeeze past the defense line uttering “pardon me” as they make their way to the touchdown. Violence is a part of sports whether you like it or not. Gaelic is also a contact sport and is quite violent but rarely anybody gets seriously injured. If violence wasn’t allowed in sports, how could Rugby or American football continue? It would be impossible to get the ball of your opponent unless they had butterfingers?
Millions of people around the world enjoy watching violent sports and they are a big part of their lives.
Lots of people like to purchase these violent games for their Playstation or Nintendo 64 because of the violence involved. They get a thrill from fighting with their opponent in NHL after a rough tackle. NHL 97 did not feature fights, but customers wrote about their disappointment at this. Then in the next NHL it was possible to fight with your opponent.
Look at how popular professional wrestling has become recently. It draws thousands of people to the location where it is filmed and millions around the globe watch it on television. It generates so much money that it can afford to pay its superstars millions of pounds. This is because it gets so many viewers and the viewers watch it because of the violence involved.
People against violence in sports, sometimes say about how supporters act like hooligans and fight and many get arrested. They only get arrested because the police are so strict.
I conclude that ice hockey; Rugby and American football (etc.) are all contact sports and have to contain a certain level of violence.
