Q. 6 - Explain what you understand by the Private Finance Initiative. Evaluate how successful it has been in the case of the Skye Road Bridge, using cost-benefit analysis. It's a dream - going to work, on a train that you know will be there on time, taking a trip to the A&E at your local hospital knowing that you wont have to wait for more than 4 hours until you are seen. Waiting one year for an operation, a waiting list on the NHS of one million (UK pop is approximately 60m as at June 2002). Does this seem far-fetched? Ludicrous? Well it does exist - just not in the UK. The UK is one of the richest countries in the world, especially with the current decline in the global economy. We are one of very few that is managing to keep our heads above water. So why can't our government deliver these public services that have been promised, in this and more or less every election speech we have had. The Chancellor has pledged hundred of billions of pounds to build the public sector: £180bn into transport alone, and we are all too aware of the disaster of our railway network. I work in the public sector - for the local government, and I know why Tony Blair admires entrepreneurs like Richard Branson so much - he gets it done! Our office has been waiting for a scanner system to upload our documents for two years. If this were the Virgin Offices they wouldn't wait more than 2-3

When I met Mr. P.N. Sharma, Chief Manager, Allahabad Bank, Rajmahal Road, Baroda office, for the purpose of summer project he wanted me to go for credit policy evaluation and formulating an integrated credit policy model for the bank.

PROLOGUE When I met Mr. P.N. Sharma, Chief Manager, Allahabad Bank, Rajmahal Road, Baroda office, for the purpose of summer project he wanted me to go for credit policy evaluation and formulating an integrated credit policy model for the bank. I suggested that carrying out such a task within a period of 8 weeks would not yield desired results. The evaluation carried out would at best remain on paper. So we decided that the process could be broken down in two parts (this explains the long term and short term objectives - see executive summary) : firstly, understanding the current methodology being adopted for sanctioning of loans, formulating a rough credit policy model and then finally developing an integrated credit policy model, encapsulating all the parameters of a sound credit policy system. CH.1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The objective of the project can be best summarized by breaking it into long term objective and a short term objective (refer prologue). The short term objective is what has been fulfilled for the current purpose. Long Term Objective: " To develop an integrated 'objective' credit policy model." Short Term Objective : " To gain an insight into the existing credit policy for working capital finance of Allahabad Bank by working on 'live projects' of the bank and formulating a ready to use credit policy policy model for working capital finance."

Working Capital Management

. Executive Summary Working capital is the capital required for maintenance of day-to-day business operations. The present day competitive market environment calls for an efficient management of working capital. The reason for that is attributed to the fact that an ineffective working capital management may force the firm to stop its business operations, may even lead to bankruptcy. Hence the goal of working capital management is not just concerned with the management of current assets & current liabilities but also in maintaining a satisfactory level of working capital. Holding of current assets in substantial amount strengthens the liquidity position & reduces the riskiness but only at the expense of profitability. Therefore achieving risk-return trade off is significant in holding of current assets. While cash outflows are predictable it runs contrary in case of cash inflows. Sales program of any business concern does not bring back cash immediately. There is a time lag that exists between sale of goods & sales realization. The capital requirement during this time lag is maintained by working capital in the form of current assets. The whole process of this conversion is explained by the operating cycle concept. This study gives in detail the working capital management practices in VIRGO ENGINEERS LTD. Management of each current asset, namely inventory, cash, accounts

Final Accounts

Task 1 Depreciation Depreciation is the term used when describing the decline in value of something. It also represents the ownership and consumption of something useful life. In accounting terms, this is limited to the value of a fixed asset during its useful life. Examples of fixed assets are fixtures & fittings, vehicles and equipment. The reasons for depreciation are: * New models - in today's modern world, there is new technology that compliment the new generation. This makes things more efficient. * Wear and Tear - equipment eventually gets worn out to an extent that it is no longer worth fixing and needs to be replaced (upgraded) in order to not be labelled as 'old fashioned'. Fixed assets are shown in the balance sheet and are valued as part of the business. To produce accurate accounts, a business must show that the value of fixed assets goes down over time. The purpose of depreciation is to match the cost of a fixed asset that has a life of more than a year to the revenues earned from using the asset. The reason why depreciation is used is to spread the initial price of the asset over its useful life. There are several methods that can be used when calculating depreciation. The calculations are normally based on either the amount of time passed or the amount of use of the asset. The first method is: Straight-line depreciation - this is the most simple
