Management Accounting Assignment on 'Jones Compact Cars'.

Unit 13- Management Accounting Assignment - 'Jones Compact Cars' I have given the opportunity to investigate and write a full management report on Jones Compact Cars. The firm requires my expertise in the area of management accounting; I will use my knowledge to evaluate each course of action needed to run the firm effectively. Jones Compact Cars is a small family business in rural Southgate. It was established 40 years ago and its star product is the flame red MG. The firm is not functioning efficiently and there is a lot of room for improvement. The firm suffers from four major problems, poor marketing, internal co-ordination, personnel and the lack of production. I will investigate the above and outline the major problems to a greater degree. One of the major problems that can be seen is that the firm does not practice good budgetary control. The sales forecast is set but it is very rarely monitored and costs are poorly controlled. The firm believes that if it sells 300 cars at the price of £40 each they will break even. From using the company information, by analysing and producing a break-even chart I have found out that The firm is incorrect in its assumption that it needs to sell 300 cars per year to break even. The actual amount that has to be sold to break even is 321 cars each month. I have illustrated this in my break-even

Production planning and control, plant location and layout.

INTRODUCTION TO PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT; PRODUCTION PLANNING and CONTROL; PLANT LOCATION and LAYOUT. . Production Production is the foundation on which every organization is built. Production is a secession of work elements applied to natural materials with the purpose of transforming these into desired goods & services for the satisfaction of human wants. The other word synonymously used with production is manufacturing. Manufacturing is understood to mean production of only tangible goods whereas production includes creation of both tangible goods & intangible services. In a manufacturing organization production is an intentional act of producing something in an organized manner. Similarly in a service organization production means discharge of some function which has some utility. Thus the basis of production is the transformation of inputs into goods & services. 2. The main objectives of a production process are - (1) Optimum use of resources at optimum cost. (2) Manufacture of the desired quality & quantity of goods & services. Production management refers to the application of management principles to the production function in an enterprise. In other words, production management involves application of planning, organizing, directing & controlling to the production process. The management of the transformation process of inputs into output is production

Consumer Behaviour and the Labour Party

MA STRATEGIC MARKETING CUSTOMER DYNAMICS Consumer Behaviour and the Labour Party: A look at Tony Blair's Leadership Teacher: Clifton Kandler Student: Paula Fontenelle ID: fp205 Introduction This paper analyses how some of Consumer Behaviour concepts and theories are applied to Political Marketing. In order to guarantee focus and a more in depth evaluation of such techniques, the chosen "brand" for this report was the Labour Party, particularly during the 1997 and 2001 British General Elections. The purpose of this paper is to show how political and mainstream marketing are closely related and how the field of consumer behaviour plays a major role in electoral campaigning. Also, some of their differences will be pinpointed throughout the work. The paper starts with a brief history of the Labour Party and then, it introduces a few concepts of the consumer behaviour field regarding its similarities and differences to political marketing. After that, the writer analyses Semiotics as an important element of consumer behaviour studies and politics. In terms of consumer's decision-making theories, the Generic Model and the Balance Theory are applied to the Labour Party's campaigns of 1997 and 2001, with emphasis on the leadership of Tony Blair as their main icon. Postmodernism and specifically, the Positivist Paradigm is applied to Labour's electoral campaigning, followed

An Empirical Study into the Determinants of an Individuals Supply of Labour

An Empirical Study into the Determinants of an Individual's Supply of Labour James Allen Introduction Why does a person work the number of hours that they do? This has been a question of much research over many years by labour economists. It is a question which has important policy implications for government as to how much they should tax workers income, how high they should set the minimum wage and whether to impose a maximum working week. The information would also be useful to firms in the interests of setting suitable wages and other working conditions. I aim to answer the question of the determinants of the number of hours worked by individuals. The data I will use for analysis purposes is a condensed dataset of the survey results of wave 15 of the British Household Panel Survey [BHPS] (2005). This survey is conducted annually amongst over 15,000 individuals by ISER at the University of Essex. Background Figure 1: Work-Leisure Trade-Off In Figure 1 an individual faces a choice in the time they allocate for leisure and work day to day. Individuals are assumed in economics to be utility maximising hence the individual faces a constrained optimisation problem. Indifference curves are points which generate the same utility for the individual and the individual is indifferent between them. The aim of the individual is thus to be on the highest indifference curve

A case study of a Bulgarian woolen textile firm "Wooltex AD".

BULGARIAN TEXTILE INDUSTRY A CASE STUDY OF A BULGARIAN WOOLEN TEXTILE FIRM "WOOLTEX AD"1,2 Industry Background Wooltex AD is the biggest joint stock company for the production of wool textile in the country. It has a full production cycle from the input of washed raw wool to the finished fabric, including a small tailoring workshop. Wooltex AD is located in a relatively large town in the central-east part of Bulgaria. The town, with a high concentration of wool and cotton fabric production, is considered to be one of the three main textile centers (Sliven, Kazanlak, Gabrovo) in Bulgaria. It is also the town with the country's earliest traditions in organized industrial wool textile production. The town's first wool processing factory was established in 1834, and was the first modern industrial enterprise in Bulgaria. By the beginning of the twentieth century, seven such factories were in existence. Wooltex' history started in 1891, with the establishment of "Antov & Mishkov"3, a private company. The company was nationalized in 1947; the communist government took over the company from its owners and ran it as a state-owned enterprise. At that time "Antov and Mishkov" was the biggest textile company in the country, and had modern (for its time) machinery and equipment, a full production cycle, and a developed wholesale network in Sofia. In the 1940s, it employed no

Benetton Group: The evolution of a network to face global competition.

Operations Management Group Assignment 1 May, 2004 Benetton Group: The evolution of a network to face global competition Executive summary Benetton has Conventionally, Benetton has always been a company renowned for innovation, particularly in the field of operations management, and, on an even more specific level, its product design. Its products have always been unusual, and unmistakably 'Benetton'. Unique and original marketing and communications have aided in the success of this aspect of business. For instance, a particularly innovative operations technique employed within the firm was a 'tinto-in-capo' strategy. This involved the production of a standardised product that was left undyed, which allowed Benetton to produce in bulk, resulting in significant cost advantages. Once the most current consumer tastes had been gauged, the firm was able to dye the garments appropriate colours in order to exploit current market trends.
