There are many more facilities that this phone has and business people are the other batch of people Nokia have targeted. The facility of using Satellite Navigation for on the go business people, E-Commerce the ability to visually view the person you are talking to, the ability to send e-mail and fax message are just some of the facilities that will interest business people for this phone. Business people will also use the facilities that students use such as phoning, sending text messages, music player and as all this is small, smart looking phone business people will have all their “on the go” requirements with them and will be able to fit this gadget into a suite pocket without any problem as it’s small.
Other type of users maybe sole Nokia consumers, membership people, meaning people who only buy and use Nokia products or phone. These types of people will wait for Nokia to bring out the latest phone with the latest technology before buying it, even if another company has already brought it out.

The pricing for the N95 my chosen product is pretty expensive considering the features and the ability of the technology the phone has. Certain packages come with an 18month contract or a 12month contract where the consumer has to pay a certain amount for the phone as well as paying for a 12month contact. Refer to fig 3, Nokia N95 cost and tariff deals. Just recently the phone has become available to buy as pay as you for up at £469.95. When buying the phone additional accessories are not available such as phone case’s, in car charger, hands free kit and so, all these additional accessories have to be brought separately.
The places that the Nokia N95 can be brought are in two ways, on the Internet or at the actual phone shop. Buying on line could take up to 2weeks for it to be delivered to the consumer’s house. Buying directly from the phone shop would mean the phone will instantly be the consumers when brought. The places it self where the phone can be brought are as of the following places:
- 02 Phone Shop
- Car phone Warehouse
- Phones 4 You
- Comet
- Curry’s
When buying the Nokia N95 on the Internet the following websites are the places that the phone can be purchased:
The deferent’s between buying online and actually going into the shop and buying is that in the shop you can actually physically play on the phone and use the facilities. This is good for the consumer as they can test the phone out before making an expensive buy.
Nokia promoted the N95 by advertising the phone online and by using TV adverts. These adverts basically demonstrated the features of the phone and showed how the features work. These adverts also show the consumer how much the phone will cost with line rental and any special offers Nokia have for this specific phone. There advert basically tends to attract the consumer to buy the phone what ever the age range. These adverts lead to Nokia selling the phone and lead to Nokia increasing sales as well as profits.
The Nokia N95 and I-Phone as a whole are excellently designed and both have similar features to each other. The Apple I-Phone is the latest of phones to come out and its main competitor is the Nokia N95, simply because no other phones features and design can compete with the I-Phone or N95. The main difference in terms of design and technology between the phones is that the Nokia N95 is a button operated phone while the I-Phone goes on a touch screen interface.

The design of the two phones may be different to each other but the features how ever are similar. Both phones have similar features but the main differences in terms of features are that the Nokia N95 has a better camera, 5 mega pixel compared to the 2 mega pixel that the I-Phone has. The other differences is that the I-Phone can download music files from anywhere with in an Internet connection where as the N95 will need music to be download from a computer and uploaded onto the device. The N95 has a talk time battery last of just 6hours and 30mins where as the I-Phone has a massive 8hours. Taking these deference’s away the two phones have the same functions and feature such as E-Commerce, Music playing ability, Surfing the Internet, GPRS, Faxing, E-mailing and much, much more.
As the IPhone has more memory then the Nokia N95, Nokia have brought out an up to date N95. The up to date N95 has had a face lift that includes a black case, a bigger screen of 2.6inches and a bigger memory of 8gb. The main reason Nokia have done the more up to date version of the Nokia N95 is that the IPhone has a bigger memory storage compared to the old version of the N95. So the N95 now can compete with the IPhone not only in terms of features but with the memory storage and screen size. The only down fall of the N95 8gb is that it doesn’t have any touch screen facilities like the IPhone.
The buying powers the customers have upon purchasing a phone is very high. The modern day phones that customers want to buy have to have the latest gadgets likes, GPRS, music player, the ability of surfing the internet and other features. So phones nowadays must have the latest gadgets. Taking these features away then the style of the phone comes into consideration, the size, the slimness of the phone, the weight of the phone as no one wants to have a phone that’s weighting them down so these factors must be taken into consideration. In competition with the N95 and IPhone, are phones such as LG KU990 Viewty, Sony Ericsson K850i and Samsung G600. At the moment the N95 is the most popular phone on the market, this is for a number of reason. The N95 is a lot smaller in size compared to the IPhone, the cost is much cheaper then the IPhone and the network availability for the N95 compared with the IPhone is for a mayor networks while the IPhone is only available on O2.
In marketing there are 3 types of reference group and they are aspirant, membership and dissociative. These 3 types of group apply to the mobile industry in terms of what consumers want. People may choose Nokia over IPhone as they are members of Nokia and people may aspire to Nokia as they only buy Nokia products and phones, this could lead to these types of consumers being dissociative to Apples IPhone, a product or company they don’t want to be part of.
When customers come to actually buying the phone of their choice then accessories and what offers are available for the phone is taken into consideration. Most phones that are new to the market don’t normally sell with accessories such as phone case’s these types of accessories are sold separately. So customers normally look for the phone that offers them the best tariff for a reasonable price. A customer would normally look for the best tariff contract as well as how much they have to pay for the phone, as normally there is a charge for the phone then the monthly contract charge that normally last’s for 12 to 18 months.

Comparing the table Fig 3, the Nokia N95 charge and Fig 5, the IPhone charge there is a big difference in cost. As you can see the IPhone is significantly expensive compared to the N95 and taking into consideration both the phones are similar in terms of features just the technology of the way you use the phone is different, this is pretty expensive. On any monthly subscription on the IPhoone you have to purchase the phone at a cost of £269 but on the N95 after the monthly subscription of £30 the phone purchase price is free.
In terms of promoting the IPone, Apple the company that produces the IPhone have only given O2 the privilege of networking the phone. So from this Apple officially released the IPhone at 6:02 hence 02 in the time as 02 the networking company. This from Apple and O2 is good marketing as it just adds a bit more uniqueness to the phone in terms of its ability and then the release time. This is different to Nokia who just released the phone as they would release any other phone.

Nokia and Apple both have web site, the Nokia and Apple websites are similar to each other in terms of how they look and are set out. Nokia and Apple have as their main attraction to their home page their latest phone in an interactive hyperlinked advert, both linked to the phones portfolio. In terms of the web site being personalised to the user, the user must be registered with the site. This will enable the company Apple and Nokia, which ever the user is registered with to receive e-mails with latest phone offers and latest phones information. Fig 6.1 and Fig 6.2 the Apple and Nokia web site respectively show the latest phone adverts on their home page. The main difference in the website is a big difference, the Apple website you cannot purchase the IPhone but on the Nokia website the user can purchase their phone including the N95 the phone I’m comparing with the IPhone. In terms of the web site helping the user like support, both the web site has contact details like e-mailing the company for support and online support.
In conclusion I prefer the Nokia N95 to the IPhone as a phone. The two phones are similar in terms of features but the IPhone has the touch screen facility that no other phone has. The only thing that lets the IPhone down is that it’s too big and too chunky so this puts me off about having the IPhone.
The way Apple have marketed the IPhone has got to be a good bit of marketing in terms of getting O2 the networking company to gel in with the release timing side of the IPhone.
In the future, phone companies will start to see the next generation phones are going to be touch screen phones, so considering this mind I have no doubt that Nokia will bring out touch screen phones. With this in mind Apple or another phone company will find ways of making phones smaller to facilitate the touch screen mechanism.
