Hamza TV’s believes that the people is the most important part of the company this is because they are the driving force of the company. The reason being is that if the workforce is efficient and hard working the company will succeed. If the employees are lazy then the company will fail. Therefore Hamza TV’s makes sure that only the best of the best of employees are employed and that those employees can do the job efficiently and have the skills required. Therefore Hamza TV’s will provide training for its employees so that they remain at the top of their game and keep efficient in their job and keep the business competitiveness against other companies. The business must therefore have sufficient cash to hire employees who are of decent quality and have prospects to improve by the guidance of the company. Therefore training programmes will be set up e.g. mentors to each new employees and for the business to be able to send their employees to training centres.
-time is important to measure productivity trends over a period to see whether the organisation is becoming more or less efficient. Therefore if the company increases its workforce training, increases the automation of is plant or successfully recognises the production process, it will expect to see an increasing productivity ratio. This can be tracked over time. Value is thus added through increasing productivity because revenues can be added to at a quicker rate than costs rise.
Time must therefore be looked after very carefully because if days or weeks are wasted then many sales can be lost and day to day expenses might not be paid of and debts might start building up. Therefore the time used must be used carefully and at the correct time Hamza TV’s will therefore plan when to sell and advertise because if the moment isn’t right then sales will be lower then usual if it is sold at the right moment of time sales will be very high and expenses will easily be paid off.
Therefore Hamza TV’s will manage its time carefully therefore not too waste it and use it carefully and appropriately e.g. if too much time is spent on producing products which are not needed it will be an expense to Hamza TV’s . Therefore time and money will be wasted on useless things Hamza TV’s will therefore carefully layout schedules and spend time and money on staff training and improving the plant. Because if the employees aren’t improving the business will be left behind and costs will remain high because employees getting more skills will allow for the business to lay off other workers saving the company money. Allowing for employees to improve and make Hamza TV’s more efficient in their market.
❑ What plant, equipment and machinery are required to produce your product?
In order to decide what plant equipment and machinery to use the business must look at product, plant, people, process, and programme. This is because by looking at these 5 P’s the business can decide what plant to use which machinery are required and what type of equipment are needed.
-Product is very important for the company because it must clearly meet consumer needs which can be provided at the right time and place. Therefore
-Plant will add value to the product because the business requires a plant this is because the location, design, size, safety and the layout of the plant is important for the company. Therefore the manager of Hamza TV’s must therefore think how parts and materials will be delivered, and the method used to transport finished products away from the plant. The layout of the plant must be simple and effective in order to co ordinate different activities occurring at the same time. This is done to keep times and costs at a low when transferring products and materials, information and people should be held at the minimum.
Therefore the location of the plant is very important because the decision is long term therefore many different factors will have to be taken into account. E.g. transport costs, labour and so forth. Is these factors are not taken into account then the business might set up the plant in a location were costs could run high and cause to business to go into depth. Therefore the aim of the location will be too locate in an area where the difference between the benefits and costs is maximised.
Important consideration will be the minimising of unit costs and the maximising of outputs from given quantities of resources. Some of the important factors influencing the choice of location are transport costs e.g. is the supplier nearby or far away because bulk purchases are expensive and so forth. Another factor is land because different land cots will vary from area to area. Another factor is government influences because by putting the plant in a high unemployed area will allow the business to receive incentives from the government and so forth.
Managers of Hamza TV’s will make sure the plant equipment is properly maintained. Therefore special maintenance employees will be hired e.g. electricians, plumbers and so forth. Therefore the fewer the break downs the better the maintenance department is doing.
-People are very important towards the business because they are the driving force for the company and the production process will depend on them. And the quality of people will depend upon how much is invested in them e.g. training & development.
-Process is were Hamza TV’s will have different sets of processes depending on the type of product they make, the type of plant and equipment employed and other factors. Process management will therefore identify the key processes of business activity. If these are carried out properly it will be possible to maximise customer satisfaction, therefore leading to better financial performance. Also to develop a detailed understanding of how process work and to identify who in the business is involved in these processes. Toshiba will seek ongoing improvements in the management of these processes and to set the in motion an ongoing cycle of continuous process improvement.
Programming is were Hamza TV’s sets out a timetable of when recourses are going to be used. Because in order to meet orders successfully, the organisation will need to plan and control activities carefully. Successful programming involves purchasing, stock control and quality control.
❑ What quality levels are required and how do these fall into line with legislation about quality assurance? (i.e. British Standards Institution)
The business will check their quality control and their TQM (Total Quality Management) by adopting the following procedures:
Quality Control it is seen as a system that tries to co-ordinate groups in an organisation to improve products in a cost-effective way. Quality control is the process of ensuring that the quality of a product or service meets specified performance criteria. It usually involves the physical inspection of products by humans to ensure that products meet customers’ requirements. Products that are free from defects after the production process are then sold in store.
Design quality is the degree to which features within a design satisfy consumers.
Product manufacture quality is the success of a manufacturing process in matching design specifications.
Product quality is the degree to which the finished good or service satisfies the wishes of customers.
The organisation has adopted a much broader approach to quality under the guise of Total Quality Assurance (TQA). With this approach, deliveries are expected to be of an appropriate quality and the operation of the organisation providing the good or service is designed in such a way as to ensure that the quality is achieved. The idea behind this approach is to make sure that an organisation gets the quality right first time and avoid problems arising from failure.
Quality Control concentrates on the manufacturing process. Total Quality Assurance covers all of the processes, i.e. purchasing, production, administration and distribution, involved in manufacturing the product and delivering it to the customer.
Quality control is therefore the process of ensuring that the quality of a product or service meets specified performance criteria. It usually involves the physical inspection of products by humans to ensure that products meet customers’ requirements. Products that are free from defects after the production process are then sold in store.
Imagine that you bought a product from boots that turned out to be faulty. You are likely to be frustrated and consider Boots with some contempt at having to return the goods. It is also highly likely that you wouldn’t purchase that product from there again.
Therefore by ensuring that every product that goes on sale is free from defects ‘adds value’ to the product. Added value is a term used to describe a non-financial method of worth which is likely to influence us to buy that product, if we consider that Product X is always of a high quality.
❑ Outline in detail the different stages of production for your product. Provide diagrams if necessary.
1. New ideas, which need to be researched
This is the 1st stage of production this is were ideas are being thought up off and made into realistic ideas which can be shown to the public. Therefore small models can be made to see how it would look like how much it would cost and so forth. Therefore only the 4 best models can be made into small models therefore all the disadvantages and advantages will be taken into account. Therefore only the best idea can be used and made into a real life product.
2. New ideas being researched by market and product Research
The product is now being properly researched by market and product research. Therefore the product will be shown to consumers to see if they like it and for them to state any improvements to the product therefore primary and secondary research will be done to see what consumers would like and to see what type of products other companies have made. The production company will now see if this product can be realised and paid by the company and not go to debt. The marketing and production company will now produce a new and better model which the consumers would like but be cheap and easy to produce by Hamza TV’s . Therefore being able to produce an idea which consumers would like but also for Hamza TV’s who can purchase raw materials for cheap and produce it at low cost but sell it a t a high price but which customers would agree to pay for.
3. Product Models that need to be tested
The 3rd step of the production process is to test the product e.g. through focus groups Hamza TV’s can therefore invite a couple of people from the public. To test out the product and see how good it is therefore after a thorough test the people who tested the product will fill in a form stating the advantages and disadvantages of the product what they liked and disliked. Therefore if there is a feature the public don’t like the company will change it and re do this step of the production process. Therefore making sure the public will like it but more importantly for Hamza TV’s to know how much 1 product will cost therefore working out any necessary predictions and to see if the company can pay for the products expenses. Therefore if any changes needed to be done the company will have time and correct any mistakes which have incurred.
4. Products set up for sale
The product will now be produced in large quantities and the product will be advertised on TV and radio newspapers and so forth. All products will be delivered to the stores and set up in key locations of the business were customers can see the products very easily and purchase them. Also special deals will be set up so that customers will get attracted and start buying the product. Also Hamza TV’s will start getting the product known to as much consumers as possible so that the product gets more popular and sales should increase.
5. Product getting more popular and leading to higher sales
Hamza TV’s must now advertise more e.g. through advertising on TV and radio therefore getting the product more popular and make new and better offers therefore attracting more consumers to buy the product. So that the product can get more popular with consumers so that they will be keen on buying more this is were Hamza TV’s must advertise heavily because this is the stage were product sales will grow. Also to sell the product in different colours in order to attract more interest from consumers in order to add some variety from the product so that more people will buy the product therefore production will increase.
6. Product getting even more popular and are now being sold in large quantities therefore lowering cost for each product
The production company will now start producing the product in large quantities in order to keep up with consumer demand. They will also start producing different models of the same product in order to attract even more customers therefore increasing market share e.g. add more features to the product. Hamza TV’s will now face tougher competition because other companies will copy the product however in different colour and sizes and so forth. Therefore Hamza TV’s will have to advertise more but improve the product in order to keep on selling at a high rate. Also production will increase however Hamza TV’s can spread their costs over a wider area therefore the business will cope against the competition.
7. Product at the peak of its product life cycle
Product is now at the highest level and will not improve any more because nearly all the people within the market share have bought the product and no more people will buy the product therefore sales will fall. Hamza TV’s will now advertise as mush as possible and improve the product as much as possible in order to keep the sales figures high however new and better products will overtake this product and the only direction now is for the product to go down therefore production of the product will decrease in order to lower costs and make more profit.
8. Product needing to be improved in order to keep sales figures high and keep people buying
Hamza TV’s will produce more models of the product but an up dated version e.g. extra features for the product this will again increase interest of the product but not for a long period of time therefore only a limited amount of products will be paid so that a special advertising can be done in order to sell these products at a high price
Hamza TV’s will now reduce the price of the product in order to sell of the remaining products however fewer advertisements will have to be done in order to keep the product noticed within the market. Production will now decrease in order to lower cost in order to maximise profit.
9. Product going into decline because of getting less popular
Production will now decrease and advertising will lower as well because the product has been bought by every body and the sales will decline. This is because everybody has bought the product and nobody wants it any more therefore production will stop in order to remove costs.
10. Product which is at the end of its product life cycle and its production will now stop
Production has now stopped this is because when sales are made the company is actually loosing money because of the prices of products being lowered so much.
❑ How does the timing of production help to meet customer needs?
My business uses just in time production which involves finished goods being produced just in time for them to be sold, rather than weeks or months ahead. It involves the parts that go into a finished product arriving just in time to be put together to make the final product, rather than being stored at a high costs in a warehouse. This therefore allows for the business to sell the product at a lower price and therefore benefiting the customer who would save at least £100 because of the business using just in time production and benefiting the company as well because of being able to save money on storage costs.
By using this production method Hamza TV’s needs to manage their production and operations efficiently in order to be competitive in the market place. Technology is 1 of the key factors which determines how successful the business will be in the market place. Therefore Hamza TV’s will deliver high quality products at the right time at reasonable costs which can quickly eliminate less successful rivals. Therefore to manage production 3 things will be taken into account that is to start planning the operations process, starting up the operations process and controlling the operations process.
Hamza TV’s therefore uses top of the range technology such as computer aided design or computer aided manufacturer. This technology will enable products to be produced quickly at high quality and at a low price. Another aspect of timing to meet customer needs is the notion of flexibility. The operations management really cares about the responsiveness and how well Hamza TV’s is able to meet changing needs. E.g. how many products do we make and ho many do we promote in our catalogue, how soon could make a product that is not in our catalogue and so forth.
Computer integrated manufacture whereas FMS may simply consist of a few machines that are linked together; CIM looks at manufacturing system as an entity. CIM involves coordinating people with their machines, computers and design for the process of manufacture. It involves integrating all parts of an organisation.
❑ What legal, financial, social, environmental or technological constraints must be taken into consideration when making decisions about producing and marketing your product?
Legal factors which will affect the production and marketing are sale of goods act, trade descriptions act, weights and measurements act, food and drugs act and so forth.
All of these laws must be taken seriously because if my business is selling dodgy goods the competition committee will find out and sue Toshiba for thousands of pounds. Also the goods must be safe therefore no injuries will occur when consumers are using the products, because if consumers do get injured they could sue Hamza TV’s for thousands of pounds. Therefore when the company is producing the product it must make sure that all the processes taken to produce the product are safe and of quality.
Therefore when marketing the product the trade descriptions act states that the description given of goods forms part of the contract the buyer makes with the seller. This act makes it a criminal offence for a trader to describe goods falsely. Therefore when producing the product it must clearly match the marketing’s info because they will be advertising the product on TV and radio and so forth therefore Hamza TV’s must makes sure that both parties work coherently.
Environmental- environmental impact assessments, eco audits, disposal of waste products, pollution e.g. air, noise visual.
All of these things will have to be taken into account such as pollution because green peace parties may protest against Hamza TV’s for producing too mush pollution. Therefore the company might be fined by special pollution agencies therefore the production section must control how many products are produced so that the company can keep within the law so that not too much pollution is produced. Therefore the pollution will cut the ability for the company to produce products. Therefore if consumer demand increases the company must still be producing the same amount as before in order not to brake the law of pollution. Therefore eco audits will be set up which will involve carrying out an audit of current activities to measure their environmental impact. Therefore if it shows positive results Hamza TV’s will not have anything to worry about.
Financial-types of finance, sufficient cash flow to meet day to day training needs, borrowings, liquidity.
The serious factor that can affect production and marketing is the finance of Hamza TV’s because does the company have enough money to meet day to day expenses because if the company does not have money to buy raw materials then no raw materials can be bought and the business will go bankrupt.
Technological-new technological processes, energy saving techniques, new materials and substitutes for existing materials, better equipment, new product development.
Does Hamza TV’s have the money to pay day to day expenses
All these things will be taken into account for example does Hamza TV’s have the technology to produce the products up to customer standards, does Toshiba have technology which can keep up with consumer demand and so forth. Therefore before production and marketing begins the business will assess to see how well the technology they have. Therefore if the technology is outdated and does not produce products up to quality the business will need to replace them because if they aren’t replaced then energy costs will be high and production will be lower then usual. Therefore products will be priced higher and some people might not buy them.
Social-consumer lifestyles, demographic issues, education, immigration, emigration and religion.
Will have to be taken into account in the marketing side because they must research and find out what styles people like on the products they purchase. E.g. retro style and so forth therefore market research must be taken into account however if consumer tastes are expensive then the business might have to make some key decisions e.g. cut costs in other areas of the business in order to meet with costumer demands and so forth. Also demographic issues
