What makes someone a successful entrepreneur.

You have money,

You have stature

You have attitude

All you need now is a contract.

There are many differing views on what makes someone a successful entrepreneur.   Many will say the success of an entrepreneur ultimately depends on there business ideal, if you have a good ideal it will practically sell it self.  Others will claim the road to success is paved in gold and if an entrepreneur does not have money they are doomed to failure.  Certain will even say the most important attribute an entrepreneur can possess in their attitude, because with a winning attitude anything is possible.  Statement like these are easy to come by and they all sound good on paper, however there does not exists a simple equation for a successful entrepreneur.    Twelve months ago, If someone would have asked my opinion on what makes someone a successful entrepreneur, I would have probably answered with a definition from a dictionary and proceeded to give examples of past successful entrepreneurs, from which I would have created a standard view of a entrepreneur.   However, that was before an eye opening ten-month work term in Germany at Suplie MultiMedia GmbH.   The following view of an entrepreneur I submit is far standard and far from vague.  In fact the president and COE of Suplie MultiMedia just might have solved part of the equation.

From April to December 2002 I have been in Germany working for a small company, Suplie Multimedia GmbH.    The main area of business of the company is an Information Technology service centre.   Presently they have one major client Sony Europe.   When I first arrived at Suplie MultiMedia they provided three services to Sony Europe: 1: International Call Center for storage devices such as  DDS tape drives, high end AIT drives, Tape Libraries, Magneto-Optical drives, File servers, CD-RWs, DVD, DVD+RW, CD-ROM and web cameras.  The Call Centre was completely staffed by international students such as myself, from Italy, United States, Venezuela, France, Dominican Republic and Germany.     2: Repair Centre for CD-RW and CD-ROMs.  3: The final service they provided was the Next business day Swap centre for high end optical drives such as the DDS, AIT, MOs. See Appendix A for Swap centre  services explanations.   In August of 2002 SuplieMultiMedia lost the Call centre, at which point I was promoted to project manager and all but one other international student where sent home.   It was at this point, I really got to know Dr. Suplie and he informed of his entrepreneur plans.

In Europe providing services for Sony Europe is competitive industry.  Many small companies are forced to compete for a limited number contracts.   Suplie MultiMedia has been a one of Sony’s major partners since 1989.

“The hardest part of business is getting your first contract,  once you have that,,, the money starts coming in”

Dr. Jorg Suplie founded Suplie Multimedia in 1989 with the opening of the Magneto-Optical Development and Distribution centre.   During this time the goal of the organisation was to build up the Sony MO business in Germany with Mr. ...
