Another way in which the olympic movement has been successful is by the Junior Olympics and Winter olympics being introduced. This would create better educating for the youth around the world. In the future Beijing 2008 Olympics will bring success to the Olympic movement. Beijing is going to offer the Olympic Movement great Games. The IOC chose Beijing to host the Games in 2008 because it had an excellent bid. Giving Beijing the opportunity to host the Games means offering Olympism to a fifth of humankind and giving them the chance to open up to the rest of the world. Hopefully the Games will also allow better understanding between the Chinese and other people around the world.
The International Olympic Committee still hopes to promote the values of Olympism and to make sure the regular celebration of the Olympic Games still goes on. One of the problems with the olympic movement is that the IOC is trying to reduce the size of the Olympics to a more manageable level which is very hard for them to do. One of the reasons for this is to build up the fight against doping.
A reasonable size for the Games is important because it must allow the continents that support them to be able to host them. Reforming our organisation and fighting against doping are important for the sport.
One way in which the olympic movement has been unsuccessful was in 1936 where discrimination took place at the Germany Olympics in Berlin. This was where Jesse Owens which was a black athlete ran the 100m and won it. Hitler went up to present the medals and to shake the ahtletes hands but he only shaked the white athletes hand.
Another thing to explain why the Olympic Movment has been successful is because of the creation of more environmental friendly plans.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), which co-ordinates the Olympic Movement, has definitely devoted itself to increasing the variety of its activities in the field of the environment and making the environment the third part of Olympism, after sport and culture.
This also promotes a policy of awareness among the members of the Olympic movement to make sure that all sports events may take environmental considerations into account in a responsible way. By introducing the public or private authorities to maintain the olympic environment the Olympic movement has been successful by fulfilling the fundamental principle which was building a peaceful and better world. An example of a olympic environmental program is the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Another way in which the Olympic movement has been successful is by the World Anti Doping Agency(WADA). Over the last 30 years there has been an increase in awareness in doping in the olympics. The WADA was established in 10th November 1999, and its mission was to promote and coordinate the fight against doping in sport internationally. Thanks to this agency, the Olympic Movement and public authorities worldwide are able to strengthen their efforts to banish drugs from sport.
