Assignment Brief

Identify and evaluate two or three teaching/learning strategies which could be used to teach the same topic, to the same specified cohort, but in classes of distinctly different sizes (e.g. 6 students and 20 - 30 students).

Introduction

The topic chosen is "Starting a small business" and I have chosen two teaching strategies. The size of the student cohort is:-

* A small group of 8 students

* A group of 24 students

The students are studying Business Studies at "AS" level in a Further Education College and are at the beginning of their course.

The two strategies I have chosen are:-

* Group Working

* Whole class teaching

Some of the methods of teaching e.g. discussion may be the same. I have taught this topic using both these methods.

The key objectives of this lesson are:-

To capture the interest of students who are new to the course.

To identify the issues that need to be thought through in starting your own business including:-

* Business Plan

* Business Idea

* Raising Finance

* Recruiting and Managing Staff

* Managing cash flow

* Expanding the business

* Acquiring premises

* Decision on legal status

* Marketing

* Operational Issues
