Evaluation of Seminar presentation

My topic for the ten-minute seminar was about mainstream schools and how they cope with children who have learning disabilities like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, touching very quickly on the Special Education and Disability act of May 2001.

Due to the short amount of time available the organisation and structure of the material used had to be very well prepared.

I had previously given out to the class a case study which detailed a mothers daily struggle in maintaining her learning disabled son through the early years of mainstream school, and I started my presentation by touching on this and explaining a little about my own sons experiences.

The first acetate I used was a picture from the Sunday telegraph which showed a young boy facing a brick wall, The headline of the article was that there are two million children who have special education needs, and the law says the authorities must provide for them but all they get is a wall of silence.

It did give quite an impact, even though I had put it on the overhead projector back to front.
