COSHH - Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999. What this relates to chemicals used such as styling/ finishing products and colours/perms/peroxides. All of these SHUD be Stored, Handled, Used and Disposed of according to salon/training academy policy, manufacturer's instructions and the local by-laws. Aerosols such as hairspray need to be disposed of carefully , the salon will have a policy on how to do that.

RIDDOR - Reporting Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995. Employers are required by law to report certain diseases, dangerous occurrences and work related accidents to the HSE. If someone accidentally slips and hurt themselves the salon/training academy will have an accident report book in which to record it, in case of any legality.

PPE - Personal Protective Equipment at work Regulations 1992. All employers must provide suitable and adequate PPE (equipment and clothing and materials) to its employees to use, the employees have a duty to use it. Gloves are important to protect the hands during shampooing and chemical services and for cleaning within the salon/training academy.

Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. This applies to all occupations/organisations when manual lifting occurs. The employer must give training and have a poster visually displayed for staff to be aware of and to follow when necessary.

Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. This is to ensure all electrical goods are maintained and in a safe condition and also checked by qualified person. All staff and apprentices must be aware of removing faulty goods from salon/training academy floor, labelling them and reporting them so that they can be repaired or replaced.
