When working as an amplifier, a very small amount of current may be used to control a large amount of current. With this same process the transistor can be used as a switch, but in this case there will be a certain amount of volts to open the gate, for example, five volts will be needed to open the gate, if it is more than five volts the gate will be open if it’s less than five volts the gate will stay closed.
Double Pole Double Throw Switch
Function- This switch is a pair of switches the work together.
Operations- A DPDT switch can be wired up as a reversing switch for a motor. This switch is a pair of switches that work together.
When the switch is upwards the motor works clockwise, downwards anti-clockwise.
Light dependent resistor
Function- A Light dependent resistor (LDR) is a device which has a resistance that varies depending on the amount of light falling on its surface.
Operation- The resistance becomes lower as the light falling on the LDR increases. For example, I used the LDR in a circuit, the LDR was parallel to a LED, in my circuit when the amount of light decreased, the resistance increased and this made the LED light up.
NE555 Timer chip
Function- A NE555 Timer chip is a chip that provides a basic timing mechanism that can be used in simple circuits. It can be used in a Monostable, Astable circuits and Bystable circuts.
Operations- In the Monostable circuits the timer’s the output is normally low. When the circuit is turned on, the output goes high for a certain amount of time. When the time finishes, the output returns to it's original state. The output can go high with the help of a resistor.
In an Astable circuit, the timer’s output constantly switches between high and low. A blinking light on an electronic device is an example of Astable mode. The circuit we made with the breadboard was an example of an Astable mode of the timer.
In the bistable circuit, the 555 timer has to states. There’s a trigger and reset input. Pulling the trigger input will make the circuit go to a high state. Pulling reset input will make the circuit go to a low state. Capacitors are not needed in this mode.
