Is changing the environment due to our actions a good thing or a bad thing? In this paper I will evenly describe both sides. We all know that human beings add carbon dioxide into the atmosphere mainly by burning fossil fuels like coal, and oil. Deforestation, cutting trees, is another major way we increase the atmospheric carbon dioxide. Felled timber releases carbon dioxide as it burns or decays. Also the cars and the trucks we drive emit carbon dioxide. Our power plants, which generate electricity even emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. All of these causes harm the atmosphere and lead us into global warming, and yet they are very vital to our lives. I think we should limit the main things that lead us into global warming; we should not just cut it away, because it can also harm our environment. For example, cars cause global warming, but we can’t just seize that away, we can limit ourselves from the usage of automobiles. Basically, my argument is a little bit on each site. Now, I will illustrate the harmful things when changing the environment.

Today, the changing of the climate is already hurting the planet with many diseases. And since global warming is coming in affect, the diseases will spread up to the north and higher elevations. The World Health Organization project tens of millions more cases of malaria and other infectious diseases. "The spread of infectious diseases will be the most important public health problem related to climate change," states Jonathan Patz, a John Hopkins microbiologist who is working on the issue at the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (Stone). Dr. Paul Epstein of the Harvard Medical School says, "If tropical weather is expanding, it means that tropical diseases will expand. We're seeing malaria in Houston, Texas" (Allen). While insects are reproducing, carrying these diseases, three-fourths of all birds species are decreasing (State of the World). As species of birds and bats reduce in number, while insects increase, can also lead to an increase of the use of bug killer, which can damage world’s animal species including ourselves (Stone).

Changing the environment, hence emitting carbon dioxide, is greatly affecting the animals. If this keeps up, some of these animals may reach into extinction. Many of these animals we need in order for our nature to be nice and tidy. For example, if there were no vultures, the nature would be filled with diseases and dead species laying around, and ruining our landscapes. We need the vultures to clean up the corpse of dead animals. This also goes for many other animals that protect our environment. This also drags how global warming effects polar bears and animals in the South Ocean.

Global warming has caused the artic ice to shrink. This is greatly causing the Polar Bears up north. Since the global warming is coming in affect, there has been 30% decline in polar bears (An Inconvenient Truth). The artic sea ice has declined over one million square miles.  Since they need seals to survive, decreasing the ice will lead to an extinction of polar bears (Brooke). From a movie that I watched in class, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore shows a polar bear swimming trying to use ice as floatation and to find mates, but the ice breaks due to global warming. So in this case, polar bears need ice so they can find their mates and hunt for themselves. This means they have to keep on swimming to find a strong thick layer of ice to live. And since the ice is disappearing they have to keep on swimming, and this can lead to many polar bears drowning, especially pregnant bears. In addition, many other animals down in the South Ocean are being hurt by this. Because of the temperatures in Antarctica, the areas of ice in this region have decreased in number and size. And since the algae grows under the shrinking ice, this is leading the main food source, krill, for the whales, seals, penguins, seabirds, squids and fishes into extinction (Brooke). This will seriously affect the entire ecosystem of the Southern Ocean. (Brooke). For many years countless of these animals are dropping in numerous numbers (Brooke).

From watching the movie, The Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore tells us that global warming will produce more floods due to increases and precipitation extremes. Al Gore also went over such temperatures may lead to the flooding of more than two million square miles  of coastal lands, displacing millions of people in Bangladesh, Egypt, China, Indonesia, and many states in the U.S. He had also illustrated that the warmer the planet gets, the warmer the Atlantic Ocean gets, hence bringing moister ocean air, which is the fuel of the hurricanes. This is why some people fear climate change because it will ...
