A Child’s Message

A Child's Message Inspiring. Had he been asked, that was the way he would have described his last morning, the final chapter of his life. Gary noted, however, that the dawn was unusually beautiful in the noisy, polluted neighbourhood that was his home. It made him think of happier times, his childhood perhaps, those blissful carefree days when all you really thought about was how to avoid the teacher whose lesson you just missed, or how to pluck up the courage to ask the girl you really liked out on a date. Then, the inevitable growing up process began and you are thrust into the busy world of work and bills, the world of endless deadlines and real consequences. There are no second chances in that world, which seemed so far away from the nonchalant life he had once led. Gary supposed he was one of the lucky ones, he was one of the only people in his graduating class who actually had a proper job waiting for him. That was because of his father, who owned one of the most prestigious stores in the busy town which he lived in. He grew up in comfortable surroundings and always knew that his family was one of the most respected families in the town. He had had a happy childhood, filled with expensive toys and constant attention. Then, when he was fifteen, his mother died leaving his father an empty shell, with no time for his family, devoting himself entirely

We face an important and difficult challenge: getting America to recognize the importance of developing a drug policy that does not rely on force but is consistent with public health, limited government, individual rights, and personal responsibility.

We face an important and difficult challenge: getting America to recognize the importance of developing a drug policy that does not rely on force but is consistent with public health, limited government, individual rights, and personal responsibility. In fact, even the people who wrote the Harrison Act and the Marijuana Tax Act in 1937 agreed that a general prohibition on what people could put into their own bodies was plainly an unconstitutional infringement on personal liberties. For comparison, see the history of the constitutional amendment which was required to prohibit alcohol. There is no logical reasoning for a constitutional amendment that prohibits one chemical and not another. according to conservative U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Alex Kozinski, frequent police perjury and prosecutorial misconduct used to secure convictions is "an open secret long shared by prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges." Judge Kozinski's remarks were reported by the Los Angeles Times in a recent series of articles about the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) scandal in its Rampart Division. A former Rampart police officer, Rafael A. Perez, sparked the scandal when he told authorities about a host of alleged crimes committed by his fellow officers in the gang-suppression unit. In an attempt to bargain for a light sentence before retrial on charges of stealing three

The Love for a Sport

The Love for a Sport It was 2 months away before Jimmy had to make the toughest decision of his life. He had to decide between staying home and attending a local University or to attend the University of Florida, on a scholarship for swimming. In the next two months Jim had a lot to do. He had two international swim meets and had to decide whether to except the offer from Florida along with making time for his girlfriend, Jennifer. This is a very stressful time. It was like, having your final exams all in one day. Jimmy's most stressful decision at this time would be to accept the scholarship and leave everything behind or attend a local school and stay with his loved ones. With all of these things in Jimmy's life he decided to take a two-day vacation to Mont Tremblant, to get away from it all. This was his third time he went skiing and didn't know the ropes to well yet. His mother had warned him not to go but in his mind he had to go. As I approached the ski lodge I knew this would be better for me. This was a break well needed and it would give me some time to think about how this decision would affect my life. When I was skiing I had the glare of the sun in my eyes, the wind blowing through my wavy hair and could really feel the hill. Today, I felt as if I was an Olympic skier. All of a sudden as I made a slight turn, my ski had lost its track. I flew into the air and

The Low Down on Spanking

April Pennington Psyc 3620-002 February 5, 2003 The Low Down on Spanking There are many different types of discipline to choose from as a parent. Many forms are effective, but only if they are used correctly. You must also take into account the personality of the child you are attempting to control. When you are considering spanking as a means of discipline you must understand that there are right and wrong ways to administer this punishment. There are several things you do not want to do when attempting to be successful with spanking. First and foremost, you never want to spank a child out of anger. This only reinforces violent tendencies and teaches a child that it is normal to hit things out of rage. It also may lead to child abuse. If you are always hitting your child before you have had time to cool off you could possibly start to hit them without reason. Second, after you have cooled off and have had time to think, you need to evaluate the situation. The importance of evaluating the situation allows you to tell the child his exact offense. Letting the child know exactly what they have done helps to decrease the chance that the behavior will be repeated. The third thing you want to avoid when using the spanking approach is overuse. The more you spank your child the less meaning and affect it has over their behavior. If you spank your child for every

Buying a house

Buying a House Buying a house for the first time? An investment in a home may be the biggest investment you will ever make in your life. For most of us it is a dream come true. Next to choosing your spouse, choosing a place to call home is one the major decision that affects all areas of your life. If you make the wrong decision, you are in for some very unpleasant situations in the near future. If you have been renting all your life and now you are thinking of getting a place called home that you actually own, here are some useful tips that you can use to help you make that all-important decision. The first thing that you may ask yourself is, how long do you plan to stay in that location? For example if you have just moved to New York to fulfill a two year long working contract with a new company, and you are not particularly in favor of the hectic city life and have dreams of living the peaceful, carefree life of a small town, then investing a huge amount on an expensive condominium with all the paraphernalia may not be the right decision for you. If you purchase a house and then decide to move after only a short period of time, you may actually end up paying money in order to sell it! This is because the value of your home may not have appreciated enough to cover for the costs that you paid to buy the home. The next thing in buying a house is to determine what your

What exactly is success?

What exactly is success? I think everyone has their own definition and explanation of what it is. Especially in the new millenium people view success as how much money you have or how luxurious you are living. On the other hand Ralph Waldo Emerson's perception of success was based on enduring "the betrayal of false friends" and " to laugh often and much". His perception was less material. I agree more with Emerson because being successful. doesn't mean to have jewels and money. I think a successful existence in society is based more on happiness, being comfortable, and being able to make it through hard times. Being happy is one of the most important things in life. Without happiness, I don't think you can consider yourself successful. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy then it's really no good. For example, J Alfred Prufrock, from "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock", was a very successful man. He had a good job, but he wasn't happy with the way his life was going. He had no one to share it all with. There is no way to enjoy all the money and cars unless you're happy. If you're not happy then there is no need to keep going from day to day. Being comfortable with yourself and who you are, is also very important in being successful. Looking in the mirror is apart of a vast majority of people's lives. And if you are not comfortable

The little village behind the seven mountains

Jacob Merenyi TP1A The little village behind the seven mountains Once upon a time in a country forgotten long, long ago, there was a little village. The village were situated in the deepest wood you could ever imagine! To get to the village you had to go climb over the seven mountains, and swim over the three rivers and then of course walk through the deep forest. As you can imagine it wasn't all that easy to get to the little village, but that didn't matter because there where never any visitors there, no one outside the deep wood, the three rivers and the seven mountains knew about the little village anyway. The people who lived there had everything that they needed, and lived a happy life in their little village. The years passed on as they always had done, spring went to summer and so on, but one day everything suddenly changed, when the old wise man of the village went out into the deep forest to pick some mushrooms. Well out in the forest he saw the finest mushrooms you could ever imagine. He was just about to pick one when a little blue dwarf with a white hat, not larger than his own thumb showed himself! The dwarf jumped up on the old mans nose, (that was big enough to hold at leas 4 more of the dwarfs) and said: Please don't pick those mushrooms its mine and my friends little houses. The dwarf told the old man that he could show him another place where he could

I remember the day well.

I remember the day well. I'd had another distressed phone call from her the day before. I felt for her, I really did. She was so afraid. Afraid of herself and the very world that surrounded her. I offered to help. After all, it was my job to listen to people. How could I turn down her proposal to meet me? I couldn't. If I didn't help her, who would? At the time I had been working for the Samaritans for five years. I joined after graduating from University with a Psychology degree in my back pocket, so to speak. After leaving my student life behind, one thing I was sure I'd learnt was the importance of listening to people. The most important things God blessed us with are our ears and I had learnt how He meant for us to listen to people in times of hardship. It was a warm summer's morning as I sat alone on one of the many benches in Beddington Park. My offices lay just further along the high street and my flat a duration up the hill that was in view on the horizon. My meeting with Katherine, or should I say Katie, had caused much unwanted conflict among my work colleagues. Most were strongly against my meeting with her. My boss had called me into his office as though I was a disruptive child who played up in class. He made me perfectly aware I was taking my job into my own hands, when not required to do so. Well, not directly anyway. I stopped still, looking impassively at

Curriculum Design

Aims, Goals and Methodology of Syllabus Assessment, Needs Analysis and Evaluation. Abstract This paper explores the dynamics and dimensions of the perceivably feasible efforts aimed at remodeling the English Curriculum Design. The paper takes a significant thrust at outlining the thrusts aimed at renewing foreign language learning models while also taking into cognisance the elements of the language curriculum. The proliferation of knowledge contributions around the bodies of knowledge which include education and language learning and acquisition necessitates that the current English curriculum designs be reviewed in the object of identifying areas that need modification or complete overhaul. This has to be done in the holistic efforts aimed at enhancing the language education designs in the direction of enhancing effectiveness and ensuring the fulfillment of learner's needs and educators' expectations. Badger, R, et al. (2000) quote Rod Ellis who articulates that, "...the learning process is path of discovery which obtains spontaneously and routinely only if particular conditions have been met." The foregoing can be aptly applied to the learning of the English language. The effective and successful delivery of knowledge in English language learning environs demands that particular conditions be established and fulfilled from all dimensions in ways of putting the teachers'
