Creative Writing - Unfortunate children.

English Creative Writing Unfortunate children The work was hard, it was very hot, but everyone was exceptionally cheerful. I think most of them were thinking of all the little smiling faces that were running in and out trying to help, but making perfect nuisances of themselves. All of a sudden, we seemed to have found forty little brothers and sisters each. Our whole class was on a project to help the Maria Children's Home. We were helping to clear the area for a field. As can be expected, boys and girls aged eight to ten, wanted to help. They were tireless and giving a helping hand everywhere, but mostly getting in the way. I was amazed at the amount of love these unfortunate little ones could give. One boy who particularly impressed me was nine year-old Don. I asked his story, while we were working together to flatten a large mound. He became sad and I had to put my arm around to console him. He sobbed and later began his story. He remembers his parents only vaguely. He has a younger sister also in the same home and pointed her out to me. His father was a hopeless drunk and never took care of the family. His mother worked and supported them. He remembers his father beating his mother everyday. His mother use to cry late into the night. Once the neighbours were so upset they called the police. His father was arrested but was released the next day because his mother did

Leaving Home

Leaving Home "Quickly now, do we have everything you need in the car? Hurry! The bus is going to leave without you!" Those were the words that my mother said to me just before I rushed off to the Bus Depot. On that night I would be leaving Omagh to go to Tucson, Arizona, with the Ulster Project. An overnight bus journey to Dublin, three flights and twelve people was what we were about to endure. Up to this, the furthest I'd been away from home was France, and the furthest I'd been on my own - England. This was a big step for me - 4 weeks in a foreign country, 4000 miles away, with only friends for support. I could tell this was going to be an experience for me. So I arrived at the Bus Depot at midnight in great anticipation of the journey ahead. My friends greeted me on my arrival, and by their faces I could tell that they were as anxious about leaving home as I was. The thought of leaving my family behind for 4 weeks was prominent in my mind. As I stood talking to my family and friends, waiting for others to arrive, there was an air of excitement among everyone. People were tugging suitcases out of cars and transferring them to buses, over-protective parents were questioning the leaders and many of us teenagers were getting ready to say our farewells to our family and friends who had gathered to see us leave. Fifteen minutes had passed since I

The Unborn Life.

THE UNBORN LIFE I was 16 years old when my relationship had started with my ex boyfriend. I was very young and immature. Having a boyfriend at the time was considered to be "cool" hence fitting in with friends, and the social demands that high school had to offer. He was very sweet but abusive at the same time. It took me exactly five years to realize that he wasn't the one for me. So I broke the relationship of. Now I am 22 and it has been one year since our break up. A month after we stopped dating, I found out I was pregnant. I was at school when I took the pregnancy test. I could not believe it. Instead of getting the rush of joy in my body, my life had come to a stop. The school bell was drumming in my ears and tears were running down my face. At the heat of the moment I could already feel and sense the pain and agony of an abortion. I was still living at home with my mum and step-dad. When my mum found out she said I should have an abortion, because the guy would be in my life for the rest of my life. She did not want me to be miserable for the rest of my life. My step dad finding out about the situation was another war on its own. When I had confronted my best friend she also told me to have an abortion. She said it was no big deal and that she had one before. She even told me that she would pay for it. I didn't understand...why and how aborting a life, and

Buying a house

Buying a House Buying a house for the first time? An investment in a home may be the biggest investment you will ever make in your life. For most of us it is a dream come true. Next to choosing your spouse, choosing a place to call home is one the major decision that affects all areas of your life. If you make the wrong decision, you are in for some very unpleasant situations in the near future. If you have been renting all your life and now you are thinking of getting a place called home that you actually own, here are some useful tips that you can use to help you make that all-important decision. The first thing that you may ask yourself is, how long do you plan to stay in that location? For example if you have just moved to New York to fulfill a two year long working contract with a new company, and you are not particularly in favor of the hectic city life and have dreams of living the peaceful, carefree life of a small town, then investing a huge amount on an expensive condominium with all the paraphernalia may not be the right decision for you. If you purchase a house and then decide to move after only a short period of time, you may actually end up paying money in order to sell it! This is because the value of your home may not have appreciated enough to cover for the costs that you paid to buy the home. The next thing in buying a house is to determine what your

Living a Healthier Lifestyle.

Living a Healthier Lifestyle By Gracie Kris E. Choy of 10 - Newton Nowadays, when people are asked if they live a healthy lifestyle, most of them would answer "No." Why? Because living in this chaotic world needs money in order to survive and meet one's needs. Parents tend to forget to exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet and sleep at least eight hours a day because of their office work. The children, on the other hand, tend to forget about these things because of the heavy schoolwork that they bring home everyday. You may ask, "What is the effect of living a healthier lifestyle?" Well, based on my experience last summer, regular exercise, proper diet, and an eight-hour sleep everyday can make a person feel young and light. Exercising regularly can make a person feel better in a way that it can make you feel lighter. You can do your task easily. You wouldn't feel so bloated when doing a certain task, because exercise can make your bones and ligaments more stretchable. Actually, the exercise that I am talking about is not the "going-to-the-gym" thing. Oh, I am sure it's really a hassle to go to the gym everyday. Maybe thrice a week will do, but I am talking about the 15-minute stretching and a 30-minute jogging around your block. Of course, if you want to attain a certain figure, you also need to eat a well-balanced diet. Take out all your fruits and

The peculiarity of English spoken language and Chinese spoken language

The peculiarity of English spoken language and Chinese spoken language Chinese and English are two different languages used by different people and countries respectfully. Either Chinese or English has a long history. Admittedly, there are some similarities between the tow. However, huge differences make the two very much unlike each other. To begin with, I would like to take spoken language as an example. The pronunciations of Chinese and English are quite dissimilar. Chinese spoken language usually has four tones, making a syllable sound various. On the contrast, there are usually not such tones changing in English pronunciation, but only stresses. In general, the intonation of Chinese is much more changeable than is English. Scientists have discovered that Chinese speakers use both of the semi-spheres of their brains, while at the same time English speaking people use only one side. This piece of evidence accounts for the reason that English speaking people are having hard times in learning oral Chinese and vice versa. Moreover, the habit in speaking between the two languages is also distinctive. Chinese people, for example, mostly would like to focus on the meaning or content when they are speaking their mother tongue. Unlike Chinese, the English speaking people organise their sentences in a more grammatical way, which bases on the general rules of the grammar

There was another missing person poster gone up in the window of the local shop

There was another missing person poster gone up in the window of the local shop, this time the poster had a photo of a teenager called Dave Edwards. This was the third missing person in just two weeks. It was starting to get a regular thing now and everyone started to get suspicious and very scared. Their seemed to be a diffinate connection between all three too as they were all the same age and all attended the same high school. Rumours had been going around that people were starting to go missing around a certain area which surrounded a large mansion house. It was a very historical house which was built many centuries ago, because of this many peoples suspicions rose as this building was rumoured to be haunted. Even though many people didn't believe this after this string of events any pessimistic person would start to believe anything. An old man walking past this large mansion house heard bullets firing around him, reports of an old man seeing something in the window of the mansion house as he looked up as this old man heard a gun like noise. The next day a new boy came into the school which all the missing people attended, he came in saying that he lived in this mansion house and that he knew of what was going on and invited one of the boys back to his house which was indeed the mansion house which people believed to be the main source of all this strange activity. B. F. Skinner - biography.

B. F. SKINNER 904 - 1990 Dr. C. George Boeree Biography Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born March 20, 1904, in the small Pennsylvania town of Susquehanna. His father was a lawyer, and his mother a strong and intelligent housewife. His upbringing was old-fashioned and hard-working. Burrhus was an active, out-going boy who loved the outdoors and building things, and actually enjoyed school. His life was not without its tragedies, however. In particular, his brother died at the age of 16 of a cerebral aneurysm. Burrhus received his BA in English from Hamilton College in upstate New York. He didn't fit in very well, not enjoying the fraternity parties or the football games. He wrote for school paper, including articles critical of the school, the faculty, and even Phi Beta Kappa! To top it off, he was an atheist -- in a school that required daily chapel attendance. He wanted to be a writer and did try, sending off poetry and short stories. When he graduated, he built a study in his parents' attic to concentrate, but it just wasn't working for him. Ultimately, he resigned himself to writing newspaper articles on labor problems, and lived for a while in Greenwich Village in New York City as a "bohemian." After some traveling, he decided to go back to school, this time at Harvard. He got his masters in psychology in 1930 and his doctorate in 1931, and stayed
