Albert’s first alias was the Measuring Man. As the measuring man, he would go around, door to door, of beautiful women, and would pretend to be a representative of the Black and White Modeling Agency. Telling the women that they were very pretty and could make a living modeling, they would allow him into their homes for him to take measurements. Once he was inside, he would end the charade. He would grope and sexually assault the women. DeSalvo’s second alias was the Green Man. As the Green Man (he was named this because he wore a green jump suit/janitorial suit), he would somehow make his way into a woman’s abode and begin to sexually assault the woman. As either form, Albert DeSalvo never actually had sexual intercourse with any of the victims.
The victims of the Boston Strangler were many. The first victim was a woman of fifty-six years, named Anna Slesers. She was a Latvian immigrant who lived at 77 Gainsborough Street in Boston. On June 4, 1962, she was supposed to attend a memorial service with her son. But, when her son would knock on the door, but receive no answer, he would break into the apartment. He found her body lying in the hall, with the cord of a housecoat wrapped around her neck. The second victim was Nina Nochols, whom died on June 30, 1962. Her nylon stockings were found tied around her neck. The third victim, Helen Blake, died on the same day. She, too, had been found with her stockings in the form of a noose around her neck. A fourth victim was taken on July 11. She was Margaret Davis. The fifth victim was Ida Irga, who died on August 19. She lay on her back on the living room floor with a pillowcase wrapped around her neck. The sixth victim, sixty-five year old Jane Sullivan, was found in her apartment dead, one month after she had moved there.
In her own yard, the police found the seventh victim, thirty-seven year old Modeste Freeman, dead. She was the first non-white woman that the Strangler had killed. Twenty-year old Spohie Clark was the next to be killed. She was killed in her apartment. She was found on her back, legs apart, strangulated. Twenty-three year old Patricia Bissette was supposed to get a ride from her boss on December 31, 1962. But, when he knocked on her door, no one answered. She was in bed, dead, with a white blouse wrapped around her neck. Mary Brown, on March 6, 1963, was found dead in her living room. She had been bludgeoned over the head, stabbed, and strangled. The next victim was twenty-six year old Beverly Samans, who had been stabbed to death seventeen times. Fifty-one year old Evelyn Corbin who was found on her bed, blood in both ears. Stockings were tied around her neck. Joann Graff had just been killed after J.F.K. was pronounced dead. She lay diagonally supine on her bed. Three ligaments were tied around her neck. On January 4, 1964, Mary Sullivan was found sitting on her bed. Three garments, two scarves and a stocking, were tied around her neck. She would be the final victim of the Boston Strangler.
The results of all of these murders would be the death of Albert DeSalvo. But, the police didn’t kill him. Other inmates killed him in prison. Backing up, it is to be said that the police did find him. Albert did not have an alibi for the times that these murders took place; he fit the description and location of every murder. He was sent to prison immediately. Inside of prison, he would ultimately confess to being the Boston Strangler. This book was very interesting, because it told the gruesome stories that lay behind the Boston Strangler. Also, many people have compared his case to that of Jack the Ripper, and everyone knows that Jack the Ripper savagely murdered women of the street.
