Lysander and Hermia both agree to run away together to his aunt’s house and marry away from the city where Athenian Law cannot reach them. This shows that they have a very strong love relationship and are desperate to get married. Lysander and Helena told Hermia which was a mistake because she tells Demetrius, because Helena is very unhappy about that Demetrius because he has no love for her. Helena is also jealous and envious of Hermia because she has the love of Demetrius and Lysander. Because Helena has betrayed Hermia and Lysander because Demetrius now is going into the woods and Helena follows Demetrius.
In Act 2 Scene 1 Helena persists in chasing Demetrius through the wood. Helena is seen as a pest by Demetrius and he speaks to her cruelly as if she were dirt. In the play it seems as if Demetrius is only bothered about finding and killing Lysander while Helena follows helplessly trying to convince Demetrius of her love for him
Oberon, the fairy king has watched how Helena has tried to win Demetrius back. Oberon takes great pity on Helena and tells Puck his apprentice to treat Demetrius’s eyes with magic love-juice. This shows that Oberon feels for Helena with his own relationship.
In Act 2 Scene 2 Lysander and Hermia are in the wood and lose their way. Lysander and Hermia decide to sleep till daylight but Hermia will not let Lysander lie too close, this suggests that she is a bit unsure about Lysander.
Puck who is to know no better finds Lysander thinking he is Demetrius and puts the magic love-juice on Leander’s eyes by mistake not knowing the difference. The love juice will make Lysander fall in truly in love with the first creature he sets his eyes on when awoken.
Helena still following Demetrius can no longer keep up with him so she comes to a stop seeing Lysander lying on the ground. Helena wakes Lysander and he as soon as he opens his eyes and he falls desperately in love with Helena. Because Lysander was in love with Hermia and is now deeply in love with Helena she is in disbelief and thinks he his mocking her. Lysander then stands over Hermia who is still sleeping and takes a totally opposite view to Hermia and says how much he hates her.
Hermia finally wakes up from a nightmare and it seems as if it has come true and she becomes alarmed because Lysander has disappeared and gone. So Hermia alarmed goes and looks for her love in her eyes.
In Act 3 Scene 2 Hermia finds Demetrius when looking for Lysander and assumes Lysander has been killed by Demetrius. In thinking this she invites Demetrius to kill her too. Demetrius pleads his innocence with her and she ignores him and walks off.
After all of the running around Demetrius is tired out and lies down and falls to sleep. Oberon, King of the fairies sees this as a perfect opportunity to put the magic love juice on to the correct person’s eyes. While this is happening Lysander is sobbing trying to convince Helena of his love. Helena will not believe this because she has not seen the love between Lysander and Hermia. While Lysander is arguing with Helena Demetrius wakes up and falls in love with Helena. Helena now thinks that Demetrius and Lysander have joined up to make fun of her. Hermia by now has found her way to the group of Lysander, Demetrius and Helena. Hermia is really glad she has found Lysander. Now Hermia has found Lysander she gets a shock when Lysander says how much he hates her. This really hurts Hermia. Helena is even more confused and comes to the conclusion Hermia is part of the conspiracy to mock her.
Now the tables have turned on Hermia because they used to both want Hernia’s love. But now both Lysander and Demetrius both want Helena and they decide to fight a duel over Helena’s love. The women Helena and Hermia now turn on each other and have the equivalent of a men’s fight but Helena runs away and Hermia just leaves in disgrace. Puck leads Demetrius and Lysander into a magic fog. The magic fog makes Lysander fall asleep exhausted firstly and then Demetrius shortly after. Helena also lays tired falling asleep and then Hermia followed. All the people-Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia and Helana appear in the same clearing but not seen by others
Suggest happiness in marriage in some cases but not in all. in the end get to go Athens whereas Bottom’s love doesn’t and gets tricked and his head get turned into a n asses head. Titania gets love juice on her because Oberon wants her love reconciled. Instead Titania sees Bottom. They have a relationship-neutralised bottom in a field in end.
