Group V was made of up of: N.T. I Kavindya and Malshani Nanayakkara In this project, we were asked to create a dictionary object, which was capable of storing words and its definitions. Each word could contain more than one definition. The dictionary object we created should contain the facilities of viewing the words in the dictionary, adding new words, searching new words and printing it to a file. The words and their definitions would be stored in an external file called 'defs.dat'. So every time, our application is run, the words and their definitions should be read in. We each created a hash table to accommodate these. Student A's part, done by Kavindya, reads in the word and stores them using the linear rehashing technique. Student B's part, done by Malshani, stores the words in the hash table using

Importance of IS

. Importance of IS Distinguish between Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS). Explain what is meant by a socio-technical approach to the study of Information Systems in organisations. Discuss some impacts (good and bad) of IS to individuals, organisations and society at large. Use one organisation that you know (could be any organisation, as long as is well known) to describe the role of IS in supporting the functioning of that organisation. Introduction The modern world is heavily dependent on information, as the global economy is driven by the service and information sectors. As a result, organisations are seeking to value and develop information systems to gain advantage over their competitors by improving efficiency and enhancing their output. In this essay, I intend to distinguish between information technology and information systems, and explain how to approach the study of information systems in a socio-technical manner. Furthermore, I will examine the impact of information systems on individuals, organisations and society as a whole. Information technology and information systems "There is a tendency on the part of some managers to regard information technology and information systems as being the same thing." (Benson, S., Standing, C. 2005, p.8) However, this is not the case. Information technology is essentially hardware, software and

Information Systems and Business Processes

Information Systems and Business Processes Brianna Bridges CIS 205 University of Phoenix Supporting Business Processes Information systems are necessary for supporting business operations in a company or organization. Choosing the proper information system is paramount for an organization to be successful, and can mean the difference between failure and achievement. There are a variety of requirements for every organization that can contrast to a vast extent, depending on the size and nature of the business. Even within the same organization, different departments may have different information system needs. Everything from client/customer information to human resources documents requires information systems to handle them. Without information systems to store and process the range of tasks of a business, day-to-day operations would suffer significantly, and productivity would drop dramatically. These days, almost every department of any corporation, has system users that need information, and efficient access to that information in order to carry out their duties. Because of the many needs and requirements within different departments of a company, organizations are apt to have several information systems operating simultaneously for maximum impact. An information system is used to store information that a company needs to run its daily processes, and saves time

This report is to describe the process I went through to create a 3D model of a chosen object and to animate it using 3D Studio Max software.

Contents 2. Introduction and Original Ideas. 4. Chosen idea. 5. First steps of creation. 7. Adding more objects 9. More detail through materials. 1. Lights, camera, animation. 2. Problems during creation. 3. Answers to questions. 5. References. Introduction This report is to describe the process I went through to create a 3D model of a chosen object and to animate it using 3D Studio Max software. During this report I will cover the following aspects: * The first ideas of which I came up with, and how I originally intended to create them using 3D Studio Max. * My chosen idea and how I began to set out my plan to create the object. * The steps I progressed through during creation. This will be the most detailed and significant part of the report. * Problems I had during creation and how those problems were tackled, also a few things I believe could be done better in the future. * Answers to questions provided by tutor as part of my assessment. Original Ideas To start with three ideas were very basically sketched and ideas of how they would be created were thought of. The three electrical objects which were short-listed were: Mobile phone: To create this it would take a simple couple of boxes representing different components of the phone (main unit, battery, sim card), the animation would show all these come together. Laptop computer: The Laptop would be

Security in Wireless Local Area Networks

Security in Wireless Local Area Networks Sami Uskela Department of Electrical and Communications Engineering Helsinki University of Technology [email protected] Abstract When the wireless communications is coming to the offices and the homes, there are some new security issues to be taken care of. Today we have continuously growing markets for the wireless LANs, but there is big black hole in the security of this kind of networks. This paper gives an overview of the security functions specified in two wireless LAN standard, namely in the IEEE 802.11 and the HIPERLAN. There is also some discussion about the threats and vulnerabilities in wireless networks compared to wired networks. And last but not least the protocols and mechanisms needed in the secure wireless LAN are described. NETWORK BASED DIFFUSION OF KNOWLEDGE IN MEDICINE

NETWORK BASED DIFFUSION OF KNOWLEDGE IN MEDICINE Valerie Owunna, K0835950 MSC Information System with Management CIM 951- Research Methods Kingston University London Abstract The paper is based on the network diffusion of knowledge in medicine. In the medical field there has been a pressing need to integrate functions from disparate and diverse distribution information system to enhance knowledge dissemination. The paper describes all the systems of the MedWeaver Architecture with emphasis on the how the MedWeaver integrates medical diagnostic decision support using DXplain, its literature searching using WebMedline and retrieval of clinically useful web site using CliniWeb. WebMedline make uses of UMLS Metathesaurus as a translator. The paper has also covered the advantage and future challenges of using MedWeaver. The conclusion summarises some main ideas found while preparing this paper and also the importance of using MedWeaver technology in the medical field. . Introduction Young,M.A.(1967) stated that "the ultimate objective of most health education activities is to change individual, group, community, or societal behaviour." The traditional health and practices of the lay public, in cooperating the changing nature of health needs and the continuing appearance of research findings relevant to the developing practices and procedures to meet these needs argue

Availability of electronic information

Introduction In this section I will be focusing on the impact of electronic information on individuals and the society, and how ICT has helped with the growth of organisations and how it has helped them to communicate with customers more. ICT has seen a great explosion of users with ICT being popular within organisations and businesses. ICT is an easy way to communicate within organisations. ICT is an important service that keeps organisations functioning. Not just in businesses and organisation I will also be focusing on what kind of impact ICT has had on individuals and households. In today's society more and more people have access to the internet from home and more and more people are developing their ICT skills with more and more people working from home. Also many people create documents and presentations for work. And also sending emails through the internet has allowed people to communicate more; they can communicate with friends or family in different countries rather than using the telephone which is very expensive. Internet access In 2007, about 15 million households in Great Britain had access to the Internet (61%). This is an increase of over 1 million households over 2006 (7%) and almost 4 million households more since 2002 (36%). The regions that had the highest access to the internet were the South West and London both with 61%. The regions with the
