  1. Introduction

The case study I have chosen is Northwestern Business College. Northwestern Business College is a small private 2-year college with three campuses in Chicago, Bridgeview, and Naperville. The central administration office is located in Rosemont. Northwestern Business College is Chicago’s first private business college which opened in 1902. The college offers programs in business, accounting, computers, hospitality, paralegal, medical assisting, travel, and administrative assisting. The college’s mission statement is “The professionals of Northwestern Business College, an institution of higher education, empower students to realize their career potential and individual goals. Our quality educational programs combined with our commitment, integrity, and personal attention, provide a vital human resource to the community.” (http://www.northwesternbc.edu/about/about-view.cfm)

The company has experienced tremendous growth in the past few years and with that growth a higher demand for data and reliability. The college realizes that their reliance on technology grows each day in each of their business units. The loss of certain systems, even temporarily, within their infrastructure can have a severe impact on their business. At the present time the company has a high amount of single points of failure. These single points of failure need to be addresses in order to improve availability and guarantee the continuity of critical business functions/services. Also, the company is vulnerable to viruses/worms/trojan horses, unauthorized sniffing of network traffic, and denial of service attacks. The goal of this study is to identify software and hardware that will reduce single points of failure, reduce network threats, and improve the availability of critical information systems.

  1. Methodology

To analyze the problems identified I used the following steps:

  • Diagram the environment.
  • Identify single points of failure and services/application affected by them.
  • Define critical functions/services.
  • Identify threats

The following assumptions are made by this case study:

Join now!
  • The estimated annual cost of downtime is $16,826,600.66 (1,919.57/hour).
  • There are no cost constraints for this study.
  • The company has the necessary time, funds, and resources to implement the recommendations of this study.
  1. Findings

The company has ranked the below services/applications by importance and labeled their respective impact of disruption. These are the services/applications that the case study will focus on.

This case study has identified the following threats for all locations and ranked the level of probability and severity:

  1. Chicago Campus

The Chicago campus has four buildings, 100 computers, and 150 ...
