What is a comedy film?

Comedy Films are intended to make their audience laugh. Comedies are cheerful dramas and are designed to create laughter. The comedy genre is hard to identify because it is made up of a variety of sub-genres. It exaggerates the situation, the language, action, and characters. Comedies concentrate on the shortages, bad habits, and frustrations of life and when all of this is put together then the goal of making their audience laugh, is scored. The ends of most comedy films are happy even though some of them might not have a serious side at all.

There are many different types of comedy films which make up the genre itself. This includes slapstick comedy which is made up of aggression, fighting and accidents all of this is made out to be painless. Sometimes it includes visual gags as well. Visual gags are things like custard pies in people’s faces, losing clothes and chases. Old comedies such as ‘laurel and hardy’ and the ‘carry on…’ series are examples of slapstick although they include an element of situation alongside.  Modern examples of slapstick are films like dumb and dumber and rush hour. East is east is a social situation conflict comedy but includes slapstick and gross-out within it. The scene we analyzed was when the 2 ‘ugly’ girls and their parents were invited to the khans’ house. The scene starts with the youngest child running into the house and announcing that the guests were here. ‘Mum, the paki’s are here’ is how he refers to them, but what makes it funny is that he’s the same as them and doesn’t think of himself as the same. He doesn’t realize that he’s even though he’s referring to them he’s also making people laugh ...
