There are also policies put in place to proactively deal with climate change and address the opportunity towards a sustainable world. In Canada for example, there is an Environmental Policy which is aimed at improving the conditions in the country. According to Maslin (2007), Northern Canada is one of the global regions significantly affected by continuous climatic changes. As a result, there are Environmental and Non-Governmental Organisations (ENGOs) such as Greenpeace, WWF-Canada, Sierra Club and Ducks Unlimited that have been working hard enough to address the effects of climatic change. These organizations have managed to address the social challenges affecting the fight against climate change by working hand-in-hand to ensure the people have been presented with policy platforms, advocacy concerns and education in order to promote the best practices towards sustainability.
Other duties of similar organizations in Canada and across the globe include lobbying to pressure appropriate policy implementations and changes. The idea has been to open doors for knowledge and understanding so that the wider society can understand the importance of environmentalism and the best approach through which the greatest gains can be realized. There are also agricultural policies whereby the best farming methods are encouraged by governments and NGOs in different parts of the world (Maslin, 2007). These approaches are observed to be preferable towards a sustainable environment.
There are also other community-based initiatives aimed at addressing this problem of climate change. There are community resource patterns and management policies put in place or implemented in an attempt to deal with climate change and consequential global warming. For example, in a country like Switzerland, there is community management implementation aimed at conserving forests and other resources occurring naturally. This approach is appropriate because it ensures that human activities that appear detrimental have been minimized thereby safeguarding the integrity of ecosystems and environmental patterns. Different governments and organizations have been promoting the CRM (Community Resource Management) approach by implementing policies in order to address the social challenges related to climatic change. The action of these organizations and governments presents an opportunity towards sustainability (Fussel, 2003).
The issue of environmental conservation is not something new today. Since the early 20th century, there have been concerns revolving around human practices and how best we can conserve our living environment. This resulted in a global movement known as environmentalism. Although this concept has become a major global policy towards sustainable environment, it also offers an opportunity towards addressing the current changes in climate and weather patterns. Environmentalism therefore has the opportunity to deal with climate change since it promotes human agency and collective action. This has been encouraged by social theory thereby promoting social movements to promote sustainability (Fussel, 2003). The tension towards conserving our living environment has remained something significance and necessary towards a sustainable world.
The other important initiative put in place is the use of education programs to ensure the wider society has been informed about the best conditions and practices which can help to conserve our environment and as a result reduce the impacts of climate change. Currently, most of social classes and living styles have huge impacts on our environment and cause global warming (Marshall et al, 2009). Many people are using heating systems and cars that pollute the environment. This means it has remained impossible to come up with the best cultural and social activities which can adequately conserve the environment.
The use of educational programs in different parts of the globe has therefore become an opportunity to inform the public about the best practices through which the negative impacts of these processes can be minimized. The programs are also being led by experts and scientists as the best approach to ensure the best practices have been encouraged to improve conservation efforts. The notion behind this approach is that human practices and domestic activities also play a huge role towards climatic change and therefore educating the public about some of the best practices and conservation efforts will be something useful towards dealing with climatic change. Since climate changes result from our practices, whether unaware or aware, the use of education programs helps the change the mindset of the individuals and make sure they understand the issue much better (Maslin, 2007). As a result, they will adopt the best practices and successfully help to deal with global warming as a menace facing humanity.
Business models are also being used as an appropriate initiative to deal with climate change. The best models include monitoring the trade operations and ensuring the products and services being marketed have been sustainably manufactured and also do not have any adverse impacts on the natural environment. Over the past one decade, there has been increased need to market ‘green products’ as a business model to deal with the challenges of climate change (Stren & Whitney, 2002). There are also products being produced such as electric vehicles which have minimal impacts on the environment. Basically, there are business policies and models which have become a major opportunity and an effort to deal with climatic change. It would be necessary that more government initiatives, models, education programs, business models and practices are encouraged if the problem of climate change is to be dealt with and ensure our world has become sustainable.
Climate change has become a major concern for each and every individual today. It is therefore something necessary that different societies across the globe pioneer the best practices and policies as the best approach towards dealing with climate change. Most of the social problems and challenges facing the fight against the menace can adequately be addressed by promoting the best opportunities as discussed in the paper above. This involves coming up with policies and educational programs to educate different societies and members of the society about the major practices which will help to deal with climate change. If the best practices and policies are encouraged, human activities leading to climate change will definitely be addressed and eventually deal with global warming the changing weather patterns. This is the best way to guarantee human posterity.
